CB Fred Smoot not signed with Commanders - yet

I'm with Carp. I always thought Smoot was servicable. It isn't like CBs don't give up TDs. He had a pretty good career @ Wash.

I'm iffy on this one. Smoot was an excellent player in Washington and deserved the big pay day from Minny. Injuries and the wrong system led to him not being effective there.

Confidence is huge for a CB and I'm not sure if Smoot still has is. Unlike most Skins fans, I'll warm up to this signing if he performs like he did as a Commander Hope that hes our version of Jerremiah Trotter, a guy who shined with the Eagles, sucked with the Skins and then shined with hte Iggles again.

I can play this silly game too:

So he is better than Springs? So he is the savior for the Commanders secondary? The Vikings must have been crazy to bench him and then let him walk.
Not following you at all. You act as if his signing is some kind of death knell to the Skins defensive backfield. He is not terrible...if you think he is then carry on with that assumption. If he did not command a big deal I would be happy with it if I was a Skins fan.

Maybe we should ask the Panthers' Steve Smith what he thinks about Fred Smoot?

fred smoot didn't pan out the first time...why do they think he will the 2nd time around..as tony montana once said...'when you gonna learn elvie?'...and i don't know if they plan on starting him or making him the #3.....didn't fred smoot say "fred smoot don't play #3 for nobody"

I would be pissed if we signed Smoot. The guy can't cover. If the Commanders are signing Smoot because they are letting Springs go, I just don't see how the move would make the Commanders better.

I'm not sure how you concluded anything that you wrote from this post. Are you disputing my opinion that Springs is much better than Smoot? If not, do you not see how letting Springs go and signing Smoot doesn't make the Commanders better?

:lmao: I wish we had a video of that, that is freakin hilarious, I love how Smoot is laying on the ground like he's been shot afterwards.... priceless.

If Springs does leave or moves to FS; just think, Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn being covered by Carlos Rogers and Fred Smoot. :) The Cowboys receivers will love those matchups. Springs has always been their best corner.

Smoot is not a replacement for Springs...he is depth, nothing more. So as such I see it as a good signing for the Skins. Pretty simple.

WRs need to make sure they have their chin straps buckled...

Which is why I wrote 'if'. Neither of us are certain that Springs will be with the Commanders next season.

According to STATS, Smoot allowed a completion rate of 64.4 percent last season -- the seventh-worst among all starting cornerbacks.

ouch.....

So now the question is will he cover terry or Terrell?

my cousin is a diehard vikes fan, he asked me what I thought of Smoot when they signed him since we've seen him play 8 times or so. I said " just hope the qb doesnt pump fake, he always lets guys get behind him from watching the qb and hopin for the big play"

he said last night " u couldnt have been more right"

I don't disagree that he was garbage in minny.

But can you pull his stats for his last 2 years in Washington? Like I said, I always thought he was a pretty good player for them.

We don't run a Cover 2. We were forced to run it because of the lack of good corners and pass rush. After Springs injury, his replacement Kenny Wright was a horrible man to man cover guy and to compensate for his suckyness, we had to play Zone coverage, which is not what we ran with Smoot earlier.
