I'm just happy we didnt try to outbid the 49ers for Clements, or trade away picks/players for Bly. I'm happy we got Smoot back but its not like I think our defense will be Top 10 again with him there.

Good point. It could have been much much worse for you guys. I do feel a bit of pity for Commanders fans because of their braindead front office.

Maybe, just maybe the FO is learning. We'll see though. If we trade down and acquire more draft picks you will see me dancing in the streets, unless C. Johnson falls to us. HA

SMOOT BACK TO 'SKINS?

An entry from a supposedly respected poster on a message board owned by the Washington Commanders indicates that cornerback Fred Smoot has signed with the team, after a two-year detour to Minnesota.

The story has been up for a couple of hours, but we have found no official confirmation of it.

Because of that, we weren't going to post it yet. But we've gotten over 100 e-mails from 'Skins fans who swear that it's legit, so we figured the only way we would shut them up was to use it.

I'd bet good money you guys trade down. I don't think you'll get much out of a trade, though, unless Quinn is still there. Other than that there aren't many must have players at the top.

But it says alot when the only confirmation is a messageboard posting, even by a guy like Om.

I don't care either way, but when something like that is posted, we usually preface it as rumor until it's been confirmed by at least one official news agency...and PFT doesn't count.

In reality, it's a better move than breaking the bank for an overrated Clements.

He's a servicable CB and talented but also sporadic.

Personally, I dont mind the trade if:

1) He was brought in to be the nickleback, and still have springs and rogers starting
2) We didn't break the bank on the guy (which I doubt is the case with the market that was around him)

He is a fan favorite that will make a good #3 corner. I can't really complain about it. We needed help at corner, and instead of breaking the bank on an overpriced clements (yes, 23 mil signing bonus is overpriced for the guy), we go out and get a guy that was successful within our system.

Signing Springs, 3-5 other solid depth guys > Clements

It's good to see our front office bringing back key players already on the roster (sellers, vernon fox, randy thomas all re-signed today) instead of letting them walk and signing one replacement.

How far have the Skins fallen when they rejoice getting One Rep back?

Who cares how much he can rep if he can play in your system

Rogers will be a starter, no question. Couple
3. Springs leaves. Smoot and Rogers at CB.

4. Springs leaves. Smoot/other new CB starts opposite Rogers.

I have to agree with this. That contract given to Clements was insane!

Not sure what the contract details are, but bringing him back is good for them. I could homer out and say that AB mad him his biznatch, but looking at it realistically they are a better team with him on it. The funny thing is that some of you guys would be jumping up and down if we had signed him.

are you kidding me?

LOL at some thinking he will suck in Wash b/c he sucked in Minny.

He had 157 tackles and 13 ints in 3 years with the Skins as the #2 CB to Champ Bailey.

That's not too shabby. I see this as a good signing for them as well. If Springs stays, it won't be as bad as it looks. Now if he had to be the #1 CB, boy that would be great for us. I smell toast burning.

Smoot and Rogers. Whoo. T.O and Glenn would be licking their chops.
