Its time for Jerry Jones to fix the coaching problem once and for all. Yes., they won and no matter how ugly the win was, IT STILL A WIN...

The Cowboys are still have the same problem as always, Penalties, poor tackling,,,suspect play calling...And A HC that is lost...

Monday night LOSERS

T newman...could not handle smith, burned again
Wade Phillips....cant motivate a team, lack of coaching ability
Garrett, Redzone play calling VERY suspect,

This team reminds me of the 5-11 Campi ERA very similiar

Um you do realize that Newman had only 11 less yards receiving from Delhomme than Smith did right? Oh and 1 more touchdown

Smith 4 catches 38 yards 0 TDs
Newman 1 catch (INT) 27 yards 1 TDs

1) I'm not going to nitpick this victory too much. As a fan I wait seven or so months out of every year for football season to roll around, and wins are hard to come by -- yes, even as a fan. I'm going to enjoy this one like all the others.

2) The concern I do have is Felix's health. He might be the most dynamic running back in the NFL (see his career ypc) -- and the most injury prone.

3) I loved the way Romo played tonight. THIS was the Romo we needed last week. You're not going to get 300 yards and 3 TDs every week, but when that's not available you can't just self destruct. He was a good game manager. Now if he can only continually play this way when the big plays aren't there.

4) I thought the back-to-back fade routes made sense ONLY if that was four down territory in our mind. I thought for sure we'd go for it on 4th down to pass back to back plays. I don't get passing twice if you plan ion kicking on fourth down.

5) The defense was salty all night save one possession. Literally, top notch other than that one scoring drive Carolina had (even when we couldn't tackle, they were forcing stops).

6) I'm going to say it: Roy Williams needs the ball more. Not to the point of forcing it to him, but he needs it more. He caught 4 of the 5 balls thrown his way, no? He's fairly dynamic with the football in his hands. It was garbage that they kept asking the "where's no-catch TO" all night. Roy isn't a top-of-the-line wideout, but he's in that tier below that.
7) What is happening to Ware? He's still a run-stuffing beast, but he just isn't getting that same beat off the snap that he got last season.

Agree. Just a simple hitch route would work.

He is tough for a Corner to bring down.

Nah. That honor goes to Cadillac or Buckhalter.

Okay really, are people hating on Carpenter for that last play? I'm no fan of his, he actually made a smart play in this instance.

He had the opportunity to tackle the guy out of bounds, but angled around him and forced him to stay in bounds, bleeding more time off the clock. It was a smart football play for him. For once.
I seriously doubt he has the instincts to do that intentionally.

Quit making excuses for him.

The Bad
1-4 redzone (1-3 Goal to goal) ***iceincy is unacceptable...this is all on JG with his princeton thinking too much playcalling. We need to lean on our awesome running game...smashmouth football sets a tone for the game. JG needs to realize that we are a running team let the running game setup the pass and keep Romo from having to be superman. If JG focus on the run, I really think Romo will perform much better managing the game and keeping his impulse plays down

OK, so other than the 2nd fade pass, what bad plays did Garrett call? It was stupid to call it twice in a row (something you could sorta see Wade mumbling to Garrett on the sideline about). The first time it should have worked.

On one of the earlier redzone possessions, we ran the ball twice inside the 10. Choice could have scored on the first one but didnt see the cutback and took a 3yd gain. On 3rd down Choice got it again, and seemed to have plenty enough blocking to get in but didnt.

I'd rather see them run play action bootlegs with Romo rather than fades, but the first one should have been a TD.

Continually beating ourseleves...we should be 3-0 if we could just play disciplined football. for our first 4 drives we faced 3-19 (first drive ended in a Missed FG) 2-18 (second drive end in a punt), 2-17/3-17 (third drive ended in a punt) 2-29/3-24 (fourth drive ended in a punt). 9 penalties for 80 yds is UNACCEPTABLE. A gazillon missed tackles UNACCEPTABLE. We have the talent to make some noise this year, but if we do not become a more disciplined team we will be on the outside looking in again.

Our tackling seemed better in the 2nd half. The penalties were a problem tonight, although our own crowd caused 1 or 2 of our false starts, especially the one on the TE at the GL.

The Good
Our running game is awesome!!! We need to unleash the 3 headed monster all season long. Pass to keep them honest high percentage plays to keep the D honest. play action passes will be there if we continue to run like this.

The run game is great right now. Eventually teams will have to make major adjustments to stop it, and then we'll start hitting more big pass plays.

Romo played within himself. Only one real impulse play but it looked like it was a pretty safe play with no defenders within 10 yds. Made good decisions to take the sack a couple of times. I am not mad at the intentional grounding since it only cost us a couple of yds (he would've been sacked for a loss of 8 yds anyway). I think Romo will play much better if he doesn't feel like HE has to win the game.

No probs with Romo tonight other than the pass across the field.

The D Finally stepped up in the second half. I am relieved that we finally made sacks and TO's - espefcially when we needed it most. Can't complain about a 3 sack 3 TO performance by the D. I hope we can build on the second half play.

I'm hopeful, but we'll see. They let them go 90 yds before halftime, and it looked like an 11 on 7 drill.

Special Teams are soooooo much better this year. With the exception of the missed FG we were near perfect. Love Beuhler and his TBs. Crayton had a couple of good returns. Great coverage on punts. overall I am pleased.

It's official, we have excellent special teams. Only blemish was Folks miss, but he isnt going to make them all.

My Prayer for the night...Please let Felix and Marion be healthy by next week. Please God.

I thnik we'll se MBIII, but I fear Jones might be out a few weeks. Might be a bonus that our bye week is early this yr.

I agree, especially about the defense. I was actually proud of them tonight. There's room for improvement for sure but they took their play, as a unit, up a couple notches and it's nice to know they can do that. I think it's going to help them mentally to have gone out in that second half and played the way they did.

Well we have a number of players who have X-number of reasons to be top of the line -- cough, Ken Hamlin -- but aren't.

Watch the play again. He intentionally forced him back into the playing field instead of letting him go out of bounds.

I am not making excuses for him. I am not a Bobby apologist, like I said in my thread, if you had read it. I said for once he actually made a smart play.

I have two problems with the game tonight. Hard to complain when you win by 14, but two glaring problems. First off, Jason Garrett is apparently braindead. For the second straight week, we run the ball down the opponents't throats, yet at a very important moment in the game, he calls absolutely STUPID plays. Of course, I'm talking about he back to back fades to RW and Bennett on 2nd and goal from the 1 and 3rd and goal from the 1. I wanted to jerk Garrett through my TV screen and choke him to death at that moment. No excuse. Stupid football and we're lucky it didn't cost us the game. Second, the same ole problem: penalties. Way too many costly penalties on the offensive line. Rather than stupid play calling, a false start on our 3rd string TE cost us another TD. Can't stand this crap!!!!!!! One more thing. Although it improved greatly throughout the game, our secondary (in particular Newman) couldn't tackle my grandmother early in the game. Again, they improved throughout the game, but it was pathetic early on. Overall, I thought we played not to lose in the first half. You could tell everyone associated with the organization was as nervous as a hooker in church. At least we came to life in the second half.

So I will ask you the question that other keep avoiding. Other than those two plays, what bad plays did he call? Do you see other coordinators make THE perfect call EVERY play?

And the first one should have been a TD pass.

Roy should have had that pass in the endzone, it was in his hands. I agree with Gruden that that was a curious call when they had been successful running the ball.

I was hoping Marty B would be coming up to speed by now but he's not there yet.

I believe both teams played with some desperation in the first half. Carolina was trying to get something going and Dallas was trying not to make any big mistakes. I think Dallas was dealing with psychological pressure at different levels, ie. getting the first win in the new stadium, getting back up after the Giants loss, and Romo trying to not throw any picks. They definetly loosened up in the second half and having patience and not screwing up too bad left them in a position of getting back in it in the second half.

It wasn't real pretty but it was a good win for them. I hope Barber and Felix can recover soon enough to keep our running game going. Big time kudos to TC. I think he and Barber will be the work horses and felix will the thoroughbred that you take out of the barn from time to time.

Not a very impressive performance by the wide receiving corps. Not sure what the problem is there.

I thought Romo played well considering the pressure he was under in the first half. The throw to Choice in the second half was kind of risky but I was glad to see it in a way. I want to see him stay in there and keep playing and not go into a shell. I agree with Gruden, I like the guy.

I don't care if the first play should've been a TD or not. 2nd and goal from the 1??????? RUN THE DAMN BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me say it again. RUN THE DAMN BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We've got one of the biggest O lines in the NFL and our run game has basically been unstoppable, yet Garrett always seems to want to get cute. RUN THE DAMN BALL!!!!!!!!!!! This isn't rocket science. Anyone that thinks we shouldn't have ran the ball 2 or even three times in a row there needs to stop playing Madden and actually learn something abour real football. While it was only one instance, the point is it was a very big moment in the game and Garrett blew it. It could've come back to haunt us big time.

The throw across the field to the RB was not risky, at least not in this instance. Normally, every throw across the field like that is very risky, but on this play there was absolutely no one near the RB (can't remember whether it was Felix or Tashard). No way was it going to be intercepted because the defense had flowed the other direction and there was not a defender anywhere near the point the ball was thrown to.

Given how close the game was at that time he made the decision to go with two pass plays and how well we were running the ball. That was a bad time to get cute. we should have rammed it in in that situation. When your yds per run is greater than your yds per att, you need to go run heavy. Also, this is the second week when JG should have kept it simple at critical points in the game instead of trying to catch the D off gaurd.

Don't get me wrong, I have not been one to bash JG, but I think at times he out thinks himself instead of keeping it simple. Everybody knows that the strength of this offense is the running game and the short/intermediate routes (esp to the TE's). Since we really do not have a stretch the field wr, I think he really needs to focus a little bit more on the running game and let Romo dink and dunk down the field. This wears down the opposing defense and keeps our D off the field letting them stay fresh.
