All the people who think this win means anything significant

This win does mean something VERY significant. It confirms that we are an 8-8 team, at best.

how about you go somewhere... somewhere being "reality"

No thanks. Negativity disguised as reality is not my cup of tea. I will enjoy this win. I'd rather not be brought down by you realists who can't enjoy life, let alone a victory on a Sunday afternoon.

Trying to take the emotion of being a cowboy fan and having to sit thru OT even of this pathetic game, a few things really hit me today.
1.Flo Adams is washed up. He is only capable of handling power rushers; small speed rushers like Dumervil and Hali eat him up. He is borderline pathetic in pass protection

2.something is wrong with D ware. I think they are doing a good job hiding it but late in the game the camera showed him on the sidelines holding his arm as if his shoulder was bothering him. I wonder if going back to the injury early in the Tampa game hasnt had an effect on him. He doesnt flatten out on his outside speed rush anymore and resorts to a power rush into the opposing tackle mixing in a few inside moves. He doesnt seem to have the hand strength he showed in previous years when I remember him dragging QB's down with one hand on the jersey.
That being said he was essentially dominant for large parts of the game, and he should have been against that CFL talent

3. Spencer and Jenkins are coming along. Young players progress at different speeds and this is essentially both of their first years starting. Jenkins has been solid tackling lately and Spencer shows good instincts. I enjoy how he sniffs out the wide receiver screens or passes out in the flats. It seems he is doing quite well to my untrained eye in pass coverage as a LB as well. Jenkins got beat by Bowe to tie the game BUT WHERE was the safety help. A step late as usual

4.Tashard, Brookings, Ratliff, Columbo are flat out warriors. I certainly have to beleive that Brookings will rub off. I jumped out of my seat on the last defensive series in OT when he just flew thru the air hurdling bodies to get in the tackle.

5. Ken Hamlin is just collecting a paycheck. Other than noticing when he fails to make a tackle --never wrapping up, he does not make any plays and is virtually unnoticeable. I seem to see him always in the background standing there after a play.
This is a major position upgrade necessary for 2010. The middle of the defense is exploitable time and time again

6. Why is there no killer instinct in our defense late in the game? Inevitably, I beleive our pass rushers tire out and fail to apply the killer sack. On the game tying drive Cassel had virtually no pressure on him. No big play contributions from either safety allow completions and allow the opposing QB to establish a rythm and down the field they go. Failure to have a rotation with outside pass rushers is a problem not solved with this past draft as of yet.

7.I have to beleive this game, even though it was a win, is the beginning of the end of the Phillips era. Lack of concentration, lack of emotion, lack of accountability all point to a coach who has lost control long ago.

8. When is Marty B going to be implemented in this offense????? Again some very puzzling play calling although I was heartened by Tony doing a bit more movement and some improvisation in the pocket.

9.Miles Austin was fabulous--some of it was poor tackling but also a large part of it was Romo putting the ball in a tiny window--Miles making the grab and then being physical with the run after the catch. Perhaps dropping that TD early in the game which to me seemed like he tried to snatch it instead of just securing the ball and getting his feet down may have increased his resolve. If a young player can turn a negative play into a learning experience and raise his level of performance from it then all the more power to him!

wow

another thread merged

there are going to be "touches of hostility" and "my meaningless thoughts" threads coming, are those going to be merged into this **** big *** thread too?

naaa, I'll stay right here and point and laugh at you homers that think we are gonna win it all cause we are the Dallas Cowboys and everyone just bows at our feet.
Nobody is saying we're going to win it all. It's a shame that some of you are more happy after a loss than you are after a win.

And fans like you are THE biggest problem with this franchise. No other team in sports has the kind of blind homer support that the Cowboys do. Jerry benefits from this like no other.
Dude, why dont you go jump on the giants bandwagon and leave this site for REAL cowboy fans who actually enjoy a win!! I never said they were perfect and didnt need to clean up somethings but we won in a place we never won before and we did it without 2 key members on the O...GO COWBOYS:starspin

I think Ware needs to lose the weight he gained this past off-season. He claimed it wouldn't cause him to lose speed, but to me it looks very clearly has thought it has caused him to lose some speed.

i think the speed is there. But the agility and ability to angle his body is not there. He looks stiff out there.

When I watch the end of these games I see a 4 man line and prevent style defense. If the front four doesn't make plays they tire out eventually. Wade needs to dial a blitz or two prior to the team giving up 40 yards and are defending inside the 20. It is a conservative approach that takes our pass rush legs. Another thing is a CB/S blitz on the edge, like we did today would be nice to see a little more.

Because we are so pitiful that losing to the Chiefs is well within the realm of possibility.

And we almost did lose. Probably should have, actually.

So of we should have lost, then should we not enjoy the win?

You can't have it both ways.

Where is the Butler? where's the blitz? Prevent almost prevented us from winning.

Unbelievable. I think some of you would drive headlong into a concrete wall at 90 MPH without a seatbelt if Jerry Jones asked you to.

I am glad we won this game.

POSITIVES
Romo was sharp today. I would say all but about 3-4 of his passes were on the money or downright catchable.

Choice was a stud. He needs to be more involved in our offense.

Our receivers were catching the ball for the most part....at least in the green areas of the field.

Ware got himself two sacks.

We pressured and bothered Castle all game long and pretty much shut down the Chiefs running game (though that isn't a huge feat these days)

We won the game. Everytime things seemed to be going against us, we fought and clawed and made the right plays to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Ratliff with the blocked FG.

Austin had a huge day.....he did drop 1 TD, let another hit his hand and bounce off.....but he ended up 10 catches, 250 yds, 2 TDs.....so if the grass is green, Austin is money....but put him in the end zone, and he is butterfingers...hehehehe

NEGATIVES
PENALTIES.....especially by our OL...also, 4-5 offsides on the same drive? are you kidding me. We did get hosed on the penalty on Ball. He went shoulder to shoulder....but since the NFL is totally wussin out, that was called a penalty.

Turnovers....once again we lose the turnover margin. We commit two and force zero. KC scored 10 pts on our two turnovers. We need to start creating turnovers, while at the same time, eliminating our own.

Jason Garrett......seriously, give us more Choice please. Also, can we get Witten and Bennett more involved when we are in the red zone? What is the use of having the best TE tandem in the league, if they are either blocking or being completely ignored in the red zone. Pathetic, IMO.

End of Game Defense.....Once again, our defense gives up points at the end of regulation. We have a lead and they cannot hold. I am so sick of our nickel/prevent. It doesnt work. Our D does well pretty much the whole game, and then on the last drive, goes right down the toilet.

Special Teams blunders. Crayton fumbled and Folk missed a FG.

Injuries.....we miss Jones, Sensabaugh, and Barber. I know Barber played, but he is struggling with that injury still. I am glad we have a bye so he can rest up. Hopefully after the bye, Williams, Jones, and Barber will all be 100%. I am hoping Sensabaugh will be able to play at least by the 2nd game post bye. Also, Ware should be 100% as well, which means bad things for the QBs left on our schedule.

10 thoughts..

1. Cowboys beat a team they should, and it was closer than it should have been. Nothing wrong with that; there are no easy games in the NFL.

2. Miles Austin may have saved Wade Phillips' job. Heading into the second half, I thought Wade might not survive the Bye. Unless the team drastically falls apart, he'll make it to the end of the season before he gets fired. And he should be fired.

3. Speaking of Austin, while I don't necessarily think he should start, he needs to be a more consistent part of the offensive game plan. He still has some issues (Suspect hands, subpar routes), but he's one of two players on Offense that have significant speed (F. Jones) and needs to log more playing time.

4. One of the coaches needs to make Crayton hold the football all day long during the next work day. Also, make sure he plants his feet when he fields Punts. That drives me crazy.

5. No more delayed hand-offs in our own end-zone. That just baffled my mind.

6. Let Romo be Romo. Let him chuck the ill-advised passes into double coverage. The alternative is a player that is so worried about not making bad plays that he can't make easy ones.

7. Dallas needs to draft a Left Tackle in the first round next year. If there isn't a salary cap next year, Dallas should probably cut Flozell Adams to eliminate any potential cap hits in the future. He may be able to switch to guard, but he looks done as a LT.

8. I love Tashard Choice. He has good vision, a tough running style, and a surprising burst. I still think Barber is the better RB, but while he's nicked up, Choice should get the majority of the carries, if not the outright start.

9. Jay Ratliff is the best player on the defense. While I still love Ware (and it was nice to see him finally get a pair of sacks), Ratliff just destroys people.

10. Dallas is 3-0 against Winless teams and 0-2 against Undefeated teams. In other words, they're talented enough to beat the teams they should (even if it isn't always pretty), but not good enough to overcome their mistakes against the truly elite teams in the league. They look like a solid 8-8 to 10-6 team that will place 3rd in the division and be battling for the final playoff spot come December.
