i can wish carter well and it costs me nothing. in fact, it earns me relief from the burden of resenting him for displaying a few of the frailties that make him recognizably "mortal" (human)... like me.
i've made more than one mistake in my life - and depended upon the forgiveness of those i'd harmed (both intentionally and unintentionally). i dare say if most of us got everything we had coming to us (in the form of retribution) we would be a much sorrier race of man.
alexander pope nailed it. "to err is human... to forgive, divine." it's the closest we'll ever come to emulating the Creator.
