How was this not a draw for Oregon fans but it was for IU? lol Thats the worst reason I've heard yet. It was a game both fan bases had seen before. IU swarmed it bc there was no ticket demand on the other side. Given the magnitude of the game, Oregon turnout was pathetic. Thats just a fact.
my goodness man.

how can you not understand basic concepts like this was a bigger game for Indiana who has never achieved success like this with the best team in their entire history versus Oregon who has been about a decafe further along in their program build and used to winning 10 games a year???

frankly the difference is negligible. Just trying to find something to crow about
Indiana has DOMINATED. Miami has not
Indiana has been the far more consistent, well coached and impressive team.
Miami probably has more raw talent and the longer the season wears on that talent has asserted itself.

I am not betting against Mendoza and Indiana but Miami at home is crazy.

Going to just watch and enjoy,.

And just a guess, that a 30 hour longer car drive impacted the attendance

One fan base could drive there, no problem.
Also, IU already has a decent sized alumini base in Atlanta and Charlotte. More in Chicago, but plenty there.

For Oregon...39 hour drive?....uh no.
They would all be flying unless they already lived on the East Coast, and their alumni often stay west.

But yes...it was a big deal for both programs but WAY bigger for IU

Proximity has always mattered.
But I am fairly certain if this was in the Rose Bowl, Indiana still would have had more fans present.

Why?
Because I flew this year to Salt Lake City to see this special group of Red Raiders play Utah.
I haven't traveled (outside the state) to see Tech in 30 years, and this was a top 10 trip for me. --I have been to a lot of Europe.

Really easy to justify a one-time cost to see something unique for your school.
Much harder to tax a credit card like that every year for a non-championship football game.

I didn't travel to see TTU/UO but I was very much in on the Peach Bowl if they got there. --yes easy, cheap flight from DFW. And Atlanta is as close to a sister city as Dallas has culturally IMHO.
My wife also hates Miami lol.

Stop it man. Just stop it.
The games you mentioned that were blow outs included top seeds getting gassed.
There is no way to avoid that.
And rankings are not at all reflective of final results.
In fact, let's be clear the rankings absolutely suck.
It is VERY likely if Virginia had won the ACCCG over Duke they take JMU's spot and Notre Dame takes now Finalist Miami's.

Anyone wanting to shut out the G6 is simply a terrible person that doesn't actually care about college athletics. Anyone wanting to trust rankings isn't paying attention.

It should be 16 teams, no byes (Bye teams 1-7 with many bad losses). 5 highest-rated conf champs plus 11 at large.
The exact proposal that has been on the table for a year now but of course the P2 can't agree.

You've told us you are casual fan, and these ESPN takes just cement that.

The finalists with 12 team playoffs have been 1 vs 10 and 7 vs 8.
Okay. I can see you're pretty emotional about it.

I'm just a fan wanting to see good games and too many games in this CFP were not good games.

I'm sure you know better than everyone and hey, if it makes the games better, I'm all for it.

Either way I won't lose sleep over it. Your frustration over perceived slight, bias or whatever terminology you want to use toward whatever favorite team(s) or conference(s) you love is admirable, but does't resonate with fans like me who have no favorite college teams nor conferences.

I really don't care which teams or conferences they come from as long as the games are good.

I love a good cinderella or even underdog team to root for and at least the national championship provides that after too many disappointing CFP games.

Oregon has never won a national title and haven't seen a championship game since 2014. So, being "further long" is somehow related to fans not showing up? Thats just stupid, but so are most of your comments.

There is no excuse for Oregon putting less than 5k fans in that stadium. It was a laughable showing.

Oregon really only played TT and IU during the season
could only beat Iowa by 2 and had some luck there
so its arguable that Oregon was a paper team as well
That is a poor take. Iowa is a good team and a lot of teams struggle to beat them. Oregon beat them on the road in a monsoon.

They also beat a 16th ranked USC team and a decent Washington.
Their schedule wasnt incredible but they did play a few teams

So played 3 ranked teams and some tweeners

Other teams beat Iowa worse so frankly using that as the tie breaker is weak
Oregon was not impressive this season; simple as that.

LoL. This is a terrible take.

Oregon beat 5 teams that were ranked when they played them including blanking #4 Texas Tech in the playoffs.

They only lost to one team (Indiana who will likely go undefeated), and they were only 1 game away from the championship game.

They also have arguably the 2nd best QB in the country.

If Oregon “wasn’t impressive this season”, I assume that you think Notre Dame had a complete dog crap season.

CFP Expansion Meeting

Big Ten still wants 24 or a comittment to go to 24 in 2-3 years.
The SEC and pretty much everyone else wants 16 teams (5 autobids+11 at-large)

so ridiculous but once again its all about money
and this will quicken the die off of the bowls

It's about what Fox wants, versus what ESPN wants. They bought those leagues lock, stock and barrel.

ESPN has enough CFP content. It doesn't want to (can't afford) to pay for more. Fox wants to break the ESPN deadlock on the CFP with more games.

It sucks for us all that it isn't about what is the best realistic model.

Bowls are going to be fine. Reduced appetite is for the random 6-6 versus 7-5 teams on a Wednesday night in mid-December. But many bowels who do a good job promoting their games in good locations are seeing record attendance and viewership. We have too many bowls to be sure so a few more bowl games switching to CFP games is a good solution. But anything beyond 16 games ads an entire additional weekend to an already overly long season that needs to be compressed.

and when they came up against the best they lost
is that not what you said about ND?
shoe is on the other foot now
TAMU was not the best.
Miami hasn't won a title yet.

Oregon lost 2 regular season games in 2 years. Notre Dame lost 2 regular season games in 2 weeks.

If you want to play Oregon, then schedule them. But they were far more impressive as a 1 loss Big 10 team than ND was as a 2-loss independent absent ANY final top 20 wins.
I will easily grant you that Notre Dame was probably better than their body of work but that is all we have to judge teams on. and ND opted out of the Pop Tarts Bowl versus BYU which would have told us a lot.
Your body of work determines your ranking.

What's clear is that your angst should be directed at Fox and ESPN for refusing to get to 16 teams last year. Not with teams who had better resumes.
