Charlton is wasted draft pick

A couple of things.

Taco was a late 1st round pick, some here are acting like we blew a top 15 selection on him.

TJ Watt should have absolutely been the pick, hopefully the FO and all you schemings-fit JA's have learned from that. The the talented pass rusher and find a way to play him. Watt and Dorance Armstrong are almost the exact same height and weight, Watt would have been just fine playing in Dallas.

I think Taco will be fine IF he stops pouting and gets to work. He's a strong side end who's never going to be a high-sack guy. Tank prefers to play on the lefts-de (typically the strong side) so Taco will be his back-up as long as both are here. If he keeps sulking, I see him getting moved for a middle round pick or part of a package in a quiet, draftday trade.

This draft is very strong at defensive line but since our first pick won't be until the 50s, we could miss out entirely on that depth. It's going to be a very interesting offseason.

FREE AGENTS
Tank will be a priority but I don't know idc they'll tag him again. Personally, I feel the FO is lazy, adverse, clueless (you pick) when it cones to unrestricted free agency so they may tag him to play it safe.

Irving is a mystery. On one hand, you can't depend on him and it probably makes sense to cut ties. On the the other hand, Jerry is very loyal and Irving's market value is really low right now.

Datone Jones never played this year but the team likes his versatility.

Caraun Reid is a JAG. Can easily be replaced or may re-sign on the cheap.

Daniel Ross is an Exclusive Rights Free Agent so he won't be expensive. I feel like they really like him and will be tendered.

RETURNING PLAYERS
We already talked about Taco. I think Tyrone Crawford is too respected here but if it was up to me, I'd move on from his contract; at the very least, ask him to take a pay cut. Woods, Gregory, and Maliek Collins will all be in contract years. Dorance Armstrong will continue to improve and will be more of a factor next year.

i was rewatching the game this morning since I do not have to work today and was watching all of charltons snaps. the guy gets no push whatsoever. I just wonder what was the scouting department thinking when they drafted him. Armstrong needs to be active in playoffs instead of Charlton. the guy cannot stop the run or even get close to qb. I guess you cannot hit every first round pick.
he has an attitude problem...we whiffed on this pick and its the first one in many years.....it happens. I hope to trade him and recover our 5th round pick.

I remember when they said Tank was a wasted draft pick.....

The final chapter on taco has yet to be written. Seems he needed a dose of maturity. He looked pretty good against the bucs. I am hopeful.

I understand waiting to see if he can be a great player but in todays salary cap era you cannot afford to waste time on players. you need players that can play and contribute.

I agree, you have to have players that can get on the field right away and contribute. Players like Romo, Miles Austin, Leary, Beasley, Crayton, Gregory, Jaylon, Doug Free, Colombo, etc.

Yeah, while it is too early to call him a complete bust, it isn't too early to declare he was over drafted.

Yeah. He was over drafted. You don't draft a multi year project in the first round. You go the Rico Gathers late round pick route.

Taco is not a bust. He needs reps and the problem is we have too much talent to just give them to him. I'm willing to bet the coaches knew that this kid needed work when they drafted him just like DLaw when they drafted him. All picks atent expected to be good picks right at the beginning. Some are potential picks. He is one of them. Of course the coaches aren't going to say that, but taco is going to be a good player the problem is Dlaw and Gregory are already so good. He just needs more time and reps. He already plays the run well , now he needs to get to the Qb

He will be replacing DLaw in 2019, latest 2020. And will safe us like 15 mils.

The full argument at draft time was that Taco was a scheme fit and Watt was not. Stupid beyond description imo.

Listening to the draft show and Taco has become exactly what they thought. Not very good. If our scouts thought he'd be a good DE, they just missed. It happens.

Since Romo, Austin, Leary, Gregory, Jaylon, and Free did not get on the field and contribute right away, I would imagine you are being facetious.

Yeah,he most definitely has been so far. Not happy with that pick. He’s slow that’s why. He can be good at controlling the edge, but he’s never going to be a big pass rusher which makes a first round grade value, not so valuable. But he did give effort and got his nose dirty last game,so that’s good news.

Many made this judgment after his rookie year.

Give him time, the homers said.

Well?

I envision Taco beefing up 10 lbs and moving into a Crawford/Irving type role. Could easily happen with Crawford high cap figure and lack of trust with Irving.

Armstrong would slide in nicely as a 4th DE

The thing that stands out most when I watch Taco is he has absolutely NO burst. He’s so slow off the snap and gets no penetration.
