Chaz Green had hip surgery

None of those guys are likely any better than what's here. Just more of the same.

I disagree with this approach to drafting. You could say any player drafted beyond the second round is probably more of the same. The key is identifying players who are likely to be able to help your team and may turn out to be more than that, especially in a draft considered heavy at running back.

I didn't have to hear anything about him to regret Dallas not grabbing a running back with its third-round pick. So I'm ahead of the curve.

If our running backs do well, I will take back my regrets of Dallas not drafting Buck Allen or Mike Davis. (Same thing if they turn out to be trash ... I'll say I was wrong about them. I don't think it would have hurt, though, to draft one to throw into the mix that we've got.)

Forgot to add David Cobb to my list. He's one of the reasons Tennessee felt comfortable releasing Shonn Green.

Those are the three backs I wanted (Allen, Davis, Cobb).

All drafts are heavy at running back. But 98 percent of drafted running backs aren't any better than Joseph Randle.

Darren McFadden = top five pick
Ryan Williams = 2nd round pick
Joseph Randle = 5th round pick

Go look at the running backs taken in the past three drafts. There were high hopes for dozens of them, but only a small few actually turned out to be anything more than what Dallas has right now.

We don't know at this point how many of the drafted running backs will be better or worse than Randle. That's part of the beauty and the frustration of the draft. You don't know exactly what you're getting with any pick, from the first round to the seventh.

A top-three back might turn out to be Trent Richardson while a sixth-round back might turn out to be Alfred Morris. That's why you take them. If you want to go by percentages of success, you'd be better off trading all your picks for players who have shown they can play in the league. The reason you don't do that is the hope that you'll hit on one of the successful players.

The more I hear about him, the more I regret the Cowboys not grabbing a running back with their third-round pick. I trust that the Cowboys know what they're doing, but Chaz sure doesn't leave me with a lot of confidence regarding his ability to contribute to this team the way you'd expect from a third-round pick. :(

Had we only known that Collins would fall in our lap.

On the plus side, Green may be able to spin a red shirt year out of this

It's crazy how every offseason injury or surgery becomes a referendum on a players entire career arc and draft slot.

Green was taking for depth and as one of the best players available on the Cowboys board.

I'm not going to start pinning for other players in June of his rookie year.

Did anyone really think Green had much of a chance to contribute this year anyway? It seems that the staff really likes how Weems has developed, so I imagine he was likely to win the swing tackle job initially anyway. It sucks to have to "redshirt" your 3rd round rookie, but it is what it is. Hopefully Wetzel, Gibson, and Fortenberry (and whoever else) can step up. Hopefully he'll be able to come back by week 6 or so at the worst.

Random stat about Weems, according to Wikipedia he was with 5 different teams between April 29 - December 5 2012. That's a heck of a lot of movement in about 6 months!

Better than "Chester."

IR this kid, and give the spot to somebody else. Maybe a year rehabbing would do wonders to his health. Weems and Collins are our depth.

"The Lone Rangers? That's original. How can you pluralize The Lone Ranger?"

"What's wrong with that?"

"Well, there's three of you. You're not exactly lonely. Shouldn't you be The Three Rangers?"

Classic.

it's really lot surprising at all, they are red shirting him. They have plenty of OL depth and don't want to lose a highly thought of draft pick, (at least to the Cowboys). I expect them to add several other young players, with not so major injuries, on IR to stash them away for the future. I think that Green will be put on PUP, and extend him on that list as long as they can, before officially IR'in him.
