Chaz Green?

This isn't a complaint, and the announcers mentioned it last night as well, but I have never seen a pre-season team blitz like the Chargers did. The offensive line probably saw more blitzing in that game than they've seen from their own defense in practice, the entirety of training camp combined. I'm not worried. Romo, Dez and Witten on the field are just as effective at stopping blitzes (before they start in this case) as the best OL in football.

good eye.
yes, they did the same thing last year.
san diego plays these games to win big-time.
they slaughtered us last year.
last night they simply beat us.

I only watched a little over a quarter and I thought they were blitzing way more than you would normally see in the first preseason game as well. Hopefully that fact made the OL look worse than it really is, because I wasn't impressed at all.

The days of teams playing completely vanilla in the preseason went away a while ago. I can remember hearing the same comments about blitzing more than usual when Gruden was coaching the Raiders, and they played the Cowboys in the preseason in the late 1990s.

I just want to know if he can play and stay healthy. Didnt look good on OTAs but maybe that was due to injury.

Not really. His play spoke louder than any scouting report. In 556 snaps, he didn't allow a sack or have a false start/holding penalty. That's playing in the SEC.

His problem has been injuries.

IF he can stay healthy, him and Collins wilk both be quality starters in 2016

To me this was a very puzzling pick. The guy didnt even start some games for his team. He shared time. And he has an injury history. Most were surprised he went in the 3rd round. And after signing Collins after the draft, I am sure this is the pick they want back. Would have been a great spot to draft a back there.

I was not happy with this pick at all. We should have used it on a runningback instead.

I would rather move Collins to RT if needed than to move Martin. The less switching the better.

Weems may win Swing OT by default since Green is hurt, but he really really looked bad and Dill was even worse.

Might have to carry 8 OL. Top 5 plus Bern, Collins and Weems/vet signing.

Don't think the pick would have changed
Collins was never seen as a tackle, but more the replacement for Leary when he is due a new deal. When you have smith making big money as well as Fred and Martin soon to do so, the other spits you really want under rookie deals

I've seen it every year for awhile now.

I remember one year we played the Bengals and I saw Zimmer use more blitzes in 1 half of preseason football than he ever used in Dallas.

Yep. We saw how much money a 29-year old Parnell who started half a season on the Cowboys O-line made. Imagine how much a 27-year old three-year starter would demand. Only thing that would scare off teams is his knee condition but I think they'll look past it if he can have another big year.

Yeah, I normally don't.

fwiw, we both know Collins not being drafted had zero to do with his ability.
All I was saying is that Chaz is sight unseen right now, so we sure can't talk about him like he for sure is gonna be good. Furthermore, I'm completely sure if we took all the lineman taken around where he was taken over the last 10 years, the odds would be low that in their rookie year they were making a big impact.

That was all. I just don't want to count on him this year.

That's true
Even the first end is no guarantees and the lower you go the worse the odds become
But they realy liked green
But I suspect they expected Weems to at least push for the job and he may have just been rusty but he got beat like a rented drum last night so having green healthy would at least give us options

I think you are right
Barring a problem arising from those knees Leary is going to make bank very soon

I think they would've taken David Johnson had he been available.

I think they could have traded up. Were gonna have a bunch of mid round picks next year. Its nice to have a lot but could have been used to trade up to get who they wanted at runningback.

I enjoyed watching what was added this draft at offensive line...now I must be patient.

Collins is the next guy off the bench at tackle or guard. Im not worried about it.

So who do you take to the game ? Normally you take 7 OL players to the game. first 5 are set (Smith, Leary, Fred, Martin, Free).

Bernadeau as your primary center & guard backup and collins as your swing tackle backup ? Thats 7 spots.

But that means Collins cant win the LG competition because else (if Weems gets cut) you dont have a Tackle backup in the game (Leary cant play tackle).

Of course these are not essenial problems but its worth to think about our situation at backup Tackle and not putting it like its no problem at all.

The 91st pick in the draft should always be expected to outperform the crap we saw last night at tackle. It was embarrassing.

If Weems doesn't make a move, we might just activate Green instead of going red shirt
