Chris Canty - Hybrid Thought

Yeah, Nors generally ignores me when I drag facts into the argument... that's OK, he knows as well as I do that unrebutted arguments generally indicate pretty strong arguments... so, as long as he refuses to address my factual arguments, his silence is devastating to his argument...
To bad his cacaphony is never silent.

Can he be used as a situational TE? He is 6-7 290 and can move.

Did he play any basketball at UVA? Did he ever play TE in college? High School?

He could be our secret weapon at TE!
I'd rather let him gefully acclimated to the pro-game as a D-lineman. Game will be fast enough already as a rookie. Doesn't need any other thoughts other than smashing the QB or the RB!

btw, like your avatar. Who's he again? ;)

I know exactly how you feel, Silverbear. :D

...over to you Nors.........

if any defensive end is gonna play goal line tight end, then it should be marcus spears. he was the number one ranked tight end in the whole country coming out of high school.

Canty, Spears, will both someday be situational offensive players.

Stick it up your gazoo Silverbear.

He and Canty are very talented players, that could be used situationally to help the team.

Everyone is so focused that they are "DE" that they can't do more. Fact is both players probably would have made NFL on offense and Canty might have been a NBA Power Forward.

Personally, I don't consider your proposal that far out the box, just that I'd rather them focus on dominating at the one position before experimenting with another. If you're suggesting using them at these situational positions in their first three years, then I'm against it. I want them learning the nuances of their position and all that it entails. After they've been in the league a few years and have established themselves, then I MIGHT be open to it.

Right now, I say no-go.

Here's my angle - and why its a GREAT idea. Grany=ted Spears and Canty have to get acclimated and into their D roles, thats a given. All along my 3-4 argument was that it would challenge our players, make us more aggressive, make our play book more fun.

Same to Spears and Canty - it would juice them to get some perks on offense and they are seriously talented football players that COULD DO IT.

I truly don't get with 10 years of failure resistance to my idea's of change. Think about that one! ITS ALWAYS RESISTANCE TO change HERE. :skins:

I thought you just wanted to discuss football. Someone does that by providing sound rationale and research to refute your idea and all you reply is "Stick it up your gazoo"?

Nice.

Two way road - I laid out my case for Canty as a TE, situational role. All State TE in college. All state BB player. Played Red Zone for UVA and Groh.

I take some flak in thread and THEN give it back, thats aggregious? I can take it but not give it? LOL

For the love of God it's not resistance to change it's resistance to change just for the sake of change.

People were not resistant to the 3-4, they were resistant to changing to it without the players to play it. Switching for the sake of change is STUPID.

Its just a pattern. When presented with facts and logic to refute whatever you are arguing about, you either ignore it or come back with some flippant remark. I think Hos even called that earlier in the thread.

BTW, whats aggregious?

I'll speculate all I want on where we may deploy a player.

What happens when players go down? We were trotting scrubs around last year behind Witten. Its called insurance and being ready. It also causes mismatches to a D. See Vrabel at TE success. See Troy Brown at Nickle.

Heck - put Spears in at fullback some too!

Again to my question - anyone know if he has ever played tight end?

See Spot run. See Jane skip. See Nors talk about NE.

I was talking Dallas players - LOL

WANT TO COMMENT ON THE THREAD OR SLING IT?

lol no, I saw "See Vrabel and See Brown"... that came immediately to mind...

Canty or Spears in situational Offensive roles?? Ah, whatever, I don't see it happening, because BP is too conservative... but, if they did I would enjoy watching it... on a very limited basis...

they are football players... it wouldn't be any huge burden to learn a few offensive plays for them... as long as they are performing on the D side of the ball...

Put your best football players on the field. Don't dismiss Canty as a sitautional TE because he's a DE. He damn well could be an All Pro TE if he went that direction.

blah, he is a DE and they will use him as a DE... if he gets thrown a bone or two like Sapp or the Fridge, then I'd have no problem with that... Campbell and Witten do their job pretty good, leave it to em... if you want that other TE, look at the one who catches TDs with every reception... lol
