So the Cowboys haven't the urgency to make these moves. So Jerry doesn't want to win as much as the Eagles?

I think he does want to win, but only on his terms, his way of doing things.
Great. If he swings some trades that get us to the Super Bowl , how is that not to his credit ?

The point is Jerry isn't actively trying to improve the club, it basically says that in the article.

Oh he will improve the team if someone comes to him with a trade but he's not out there shaking the trees to see what's gonna fall out.

And therein lies the issue.
It’s worse than that. Jerry is just ignorant. He doesn’t have the deep working knowledge of rosters around the league like a real GM would. Howie Roseman knows all the contracts of every team. He recognizes a struggling / rebuilding franchise with veterans due big new contracts and he’s not afraid to make a phone call to see if he can rent the player for the rest of the season and improve his roster.

He said it on espn radio in regard to Jerry’s contention that he’s good with the current roster and doesn’t feel the need to initiate any trade talks. Meanwhile , our division rival shuts down the leagues best offense and then goes out and makes a trade for an all-pro safety and all its costs is a player and 5th, 6th round picks. If these mid season acquisitions can be had so cheaply , why the heck is someone from Dallas not on the phone trying to improve the team?? It makes no sense. Gotta agree with canty here.
Because Jerry crapped the bed using a costly 4th round pick on the 49ers bust called Trey Lance. The same Lance you Dak haters have been overwhelmed over with Jerry, yet now you are siding with Chris Canty?

They’ve already traded their 4th and 5th rounders….

He's dead on accurate.

The reality is that Jerry and Stephen are not great at roster building. They aren't. Their teams always have flaws, they are stubborn in how they do things, etc.

I think the deal we made with the devil for all the SBs in the 90s was that we'd have to spend 50 years wandering with Jerry and Stephen just ****** things up.
So why is this team 4-2 if the roster sucks?

All Jerry said was that you don't get a good price by calling first lol.

You people will cry about ANYTHING.

As has already been said numerous times, the GM in Philly is held accountable for his job. He has to actually perform well to keep it. That situation doesn't exist in Dallas.

The 'we like our guys' mantra is alive and well in Dallas

And even a drunk dud would know after the butt drubbing you got from the niners, your current roster will not beat them even if you played a best of 5 series.

There is not enough churning of the roster.
Too much talk of extending players (Osa D Law). We've only played 6 games

Lance is a good project. He doesn’t fit what shanny likes to do and shanny never wanted him. Lance was a John Lynch pick. Shanny wanted Mac Jones. So, trading a 4 th round pick for the #3 overall pick a few years ago who hasn’t really had a chance to overcome injury is a good gamble. That doesn’t excuse Jerry for not inquiring with other teams and at least trying to improve the roster.

There’s no pressure on him to do what’s necessary to win. Totally different situation when you have a boss breathing down your neck vs you being the boss. No one in that front office is on edge. No one is working to keep their job to continue “putting food on the table” so to speak. . Everyone is comfortable because they’re related to Jerruh.

Sure there is pressure. He’s not getting any younger. If we woke up tomorrow to find out Jerry had passed away in his sleep, would any of us be surprised? He’s at that age.

What do people here think a Pro Scouting department does?

Not calling right now probably just means that they've already done their diligence and gotten prices on players that they're interested in. Getting a call back when the price comes down is probably what Jerry is talking about. This is SOP for professional sports teams. The deadline isn't a benchmark for when a team decides they want to look at adding players, it's just a timeline that forces sellers to come down on price.

You're OK with using a costly 4th round pick on a project? He's not even a project. He's a proven BUST! But, hey, as long as it appeases y'all anti-Dak feelings, I guess that 4th round pick (which could have been used on an actual starter) is ok, right?

You guys are hypocrites.

Jerry is first and foremost a businessman and salesman; it is in his DNA. As an owner Jerry is one of the best in the NFL and he excels at marketing and presentation; he has transformed the Cowboys into one of the world’s most valuable sports franchises with a sustained global appeal despite not making a Conference championship or Super Bowl in the past 30 years. As a result, the Cowboys are a brand, not a football team and thus are run as such.

There is making sense and then there is making cents. As long as Jerry is making cents he doesn't worry about making sense.

For a QB? Absolutely. If we play our cards right , we might be able to flip him for a lot more than 4th round pick. At least the anti-Dak crowd has a factual basis for opinion. You got nothing.

Part of that is true. Because all GMs are held accountable, but not all GMs do what Howie does. The Eagles and Rams ownership allow their GMs to be in full game mode. Probably a few other teams as well. What I mean by that is, they're playing to win as if it was a computer sim. They're all in on trying to win. Most ownership can't be bothered with all of that. So they probably don't give their GMs that kind of flexibility. And Jerry just seems like he can't be bothered anymore. He used to be like that, made a lot of mistakes, and now has dialed it back like 90%.
I have a different theory, but maybe that's the problem -- the mistakes have made Jerry gun shy.

A source that Fish mentioned is that The Cowboys are on the phone looking to make a trade for defensive help at LB and DB.
