He said it on espn radio in regard to Jerry’s contention that he’s good with the current roster and doesn’t feel the need to initiate any trade talks. Meanwhile , our division rival shuts down the leagues best offense and then goes out and makes a trade for an all-pro safety and all its costs is a player and 5th, 6th round picks. If these mid season acquisitions can be had so cheaply , why the heck is someone from Dallas not on the phone trying to improve the team?? It makes no sense. Gotta agree with canty here.
Makes a lot of sense....we think in terms of wins and losses, Jerry and son think in terms of dollars and cents. In their eyes, everything is groovy. Takes too much time, effort and smarts to try to improve the team, especially during the season.

How are we going to acquire those players cheaply? We have a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 7th round draft picks next year. Toss in a couple of 6th round comp picks that are basically 7th rounders. You really think we are going to get very much for two 6th round comp picks and a 7th round pick? Unless we start dealing that 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pick we aren't getting much via a trade.

Meanwhile, after making the trade for Byard the Eagles still have these 8 draft picks for 2024:

1st
2nd
2nd from Saints
3rd - Comp Pick
5th from the Vikings
Three 5th round comp picks

Mostly because of the defense. Unfortunately those games that we lost, the defense crapped the bed. Our wins weren't just "by 1 touchdown" wins. They were because the defense (on their game) kept the opposition at bay...
But the defense was built lol. I'm just saying you can't say they only won because of the defense without acknowledging the defense was built by this front office.

We don't get comp picks for McGovern or Dalton Schultz?

How do you guys know so much about Eagles information lol. They lose Dillard, Hargraves and Semalo and somehow are getting one 3rd rounder and 3 5th rounders?

No it's Stephen Jones way of doing things along with Jerry, but Stephen runs the salary cap. Which means, remember deion sanders issue with Jerry and Stephen almost coming to blows, Stephen likes to keep.salary in black. Stephen could care less about a nfc championship or Superbowl. Then let this sink in, when Jimmy Johnson was here, his first four years, Jimmy said he had full control in trades, it was written in his contract. Jimmy said you can look it up in nfl.com.contracts. Biggest true trade that has worked out well for Jerry was deion sanders but Stephen didn't like that. So what does that tell you, Stephen gets extra money from keeping salary cap in black, while he laughs at fans who believe he really wants to win Superbowls. Go watch his face reaction when he is shown his way isn't working while eagles bought a super bowl and so did rams. He smiles sort of chuckles we like to do it out way.
I agree with about 50% of what you are saying

As has already been said numerous times, the GM in Philly is held accountable for his job. He has to actually perform well to keep it. That situation doesn't exist in Dallas.

The 'we like our guys' mantra is alive and well in Dallas
It's our "unique advantage". Sure has proven to be worth it.

The following statement was in my originals quote. These are the projected comp picks for Schultz and McGovern. "Toss in a couple of 6th round comp picks that are basically 7th rounders."

As far as the Eagles go I just used them as the example since everyone seems to be referencing the trade for Byard. Also, NFL.com has an article addressing comp picks for all teams in the NFL so it is easy to research. Bewl is what they say about the Eagles:

Projected compensatory picks: One in Round 3; two in Round 5; one in Round 6.

Key free-agent losses: Andre Dillard (Titans), C.J. Gardner-Johnson (Lions), Javon Hargrave (49ers), Miles Sanders (Panthers), Isaac Seumalo (Steelers).

Key free-agent additions: None.

This is tiresome. Jerry is being diplomatic, of course his public stance is "everything is good" or variations of that and then of course the talking heads on tv, radio or podcasts have to fill space with their "opinions" so whatever show that is can fill the time between insurance commercials.

Yes, the Eagles plan ahead and are always trading players and acquiring picks that they can use to acquire other players. It’s hard to do what the eagles do when you manage like Jerry Jones. But at this point , why wouldn’t you part with a 3rd round pick to land a starting LB or Derrick Henry? The goal is to win this year.

I’d call Tampa and inquire about Devin White who requested a trade earlier this year. He’s an UFA next year.

Jethro is a part time GM. Unless an injury presents a pressing need to fill or we are in a dumpster fire he has no sense of urgency to be active .

So the Cowboys haven't the urgency to make these moves. So Jerry doesn't want to win as much as the Eagles?

I think he does want to win, but only on his terms, his way of doing things.
I believe that as well. He thinks his way is the best way to get it done. He's delusional, but there's plenty of evidence, past quotes from him that show it is what he believes. And, of course, who is going to tell him he's wrong?

We had a 3rd round comp once…for Byron Jones.

We took took a long-armed corner named Nashon Wright who had a consensus 7th round grade because Dan Quinn worked him out and liked him personally.

The point is Jerry isn't actively trying to improve the club, it basically says that in the article.

Oh he will improve the team if someone comes to him with a trade but he's not out there shaking the trees to see what's gonna fall out.

And therein lies the issue.
My gut says that's just BS too. What is he supposed to say? That's just Jerry speak IMO to try and trick everyone that he isn't looking to upgrade the team and thinks he'll get a better deal because of it.

I have a different theory, but maybe that's the problem -- the mistakes have made Jerry gun shy.
I don't know that to be a different theory. I think that's exactly what happened, and it led to what he is today.

I doubt his mortality is a driving factor. How often do you wake up thinking you’re going to die so I better do this? Only the terminally ill would motivate themselves like that. Being a billionaire, he probably thinks he’s bullet proof….
Well what else is driving him? He doesn’t need the money. He wants to build a Super Bowl team AND get the credit he did not get in the 90’s. That’s what has been driving him all these years and why he clings to GM duties in spite of 27 years of nothing. He wants to be remembered as a “ football man” like Al Davis not just a rich owner. That legacy is all he has left in life to accomplish.
