Long is not an improvement over Hardy, no matter how much of a RKG he is. Older and less productive are not things that go well together. Was already sliding before his injuries hit. Just bite the bullet and re-sign Hardy, there are no pass rushers available that are better.

And sign Weddle already for Pete's sake.

I'm with you. I'd be okay with signing Long if we drafted Bosa or Spence and we just needed a veteran to take snaps while Gregory is suspended. But I can't rely on Long from a talent standpoint. Hardy is someone who is talented enough to step in and have an immediate impact if we don't draft a rookie edge rusher who has an immediate impact.

In that vein, sign Hardy back.

If you can't deal with him in the locker room, that is as much a team problem as anything else. Your coach should be able to handle it.

I can tell you right now, they are going to be hard pressed to find another DE in this draft to equal his level of disruption from last season.

That is just a simple fact. Rookie DEs take time.

We have been reminded of that in Lawrence's case multiple times, right?

And I regret commenting on Hardy as I am sure it will spawn a bunch of nonsense, but this is just an example of my thoughts at the moment.

hearing reports that Long has reached out to Cowboys about meeting. Not sure how Dallas responded.

All in all, they really should pretend he is not even on the roster.

Yes I thing that is how we have to approach this. Low expectation and who knows if he stays clean could become a heck of a player. He does have upside.

All the guys holding out hope for Greogory might be in for a rude awakening. He is 1 more violation away from seeing the door out of Dallas. I am one that can't see him in Dallas for long. He cant be trusted, we need a backup plan in place.

The pot violation is the problem and yes I know it's still the rule.
There are states where its legal and the NFL needs to correct this
archaic attitude. Pot isnt a public treat.

Gregory as you stated is one violation away from being history for the year.

Hardy may have been really good, but last year he stunk and from the lack of interest in him during Free Agency, it looks like most teams think so too. I'd rather have Long and hope for an injury free season.

Would say he stunk. He was our best dl. Regardless if dlaw had 2 more sacks.

the head coach of the cowboys does not want greg hardy back at all. I think that ship has sailed.

Don't think the head coach wanted Ro McClain back either.

I do think there is a very strong distaste for Hardy at VR... but ... Garrett doesn't coach defense and Rod M needs a pass rusher from somewhere.
If we don't sign Long and find better draft values first 4 or 5 rounds... you think Hardy on a 1 year incentive laden deal still sounds afwul to the front office?

We are without Gregory first 4 games.

Free agent Chris Long has informed the Cowboys that he wants to visit and is expected to do so next week, a source said.

No firm date has been set, but the Cowboys have a definite interest in the defensive end.

Long has played in only 18 games the past two seasons and recorded four sacks. But in the 2010-13 seasons, he was one of the more productive players in the league with 41.5 sacks in that span.

Long was the second player taken in the '08 draft by the St. Louis Rams. He turns 31 in March.

Thanks for posting this.

That is what they call 'cutting off the nose to spite the face'

Hardy is perfect for this team
He can play WDE when Gregory is suspended
He can play DT on Nickel downs
He will be cheap for 8-12 sacks
We took the PR hit for nothing if we let him walk

It is fast approaching 2 years since his incident. He has not been in any trouble since, if he ever was.
Late for meetings is a fine-able type offense, not a firing.

Nkemdiche. Bosa, Spence are all drug problems.

Long has a fair chance to bounce back. He broke his ankle and hyperextended a knee. Nothing truly devastating and kinda reminds me of Ware when he was leaving here after hamstring and quad injuries.

Cowboys said last year or the year before they reevaluated their training and conditioning due to the recurring hamstring injuries.

There was word from multiple sources that he was dividing the locker room last year. That's something we can't sweep under the rug. We should at least consider how it might have affected that locker room and how it could "potentially" counteract what we want to see on that defense which is togetherness & progress.

I know we won't resign Hardy, but this is a different year. Winning cures a lot of division. With a healthy Romo and Dez, we will win more. And Hardy would have less to complain about. I would resign him for cheap.
