I just don't think that Long will improve the pass rush much for Dallas. I would rather spend the money needed for him on younger, potentially ascending players rather than a declining player. I have mentioned Andre Branch earlier. Quinton Coples would be another option as well.

if you get Long you move DLaw to WDE in all likelihood.
Long would helop the DL for sure as he allows DLaw to handle WDE duties and Long provides the a reasoanble presence on that strong-side and brings plenty of strength.
likely you'd use Long inside on pass rush downs when Gregory gets back much like thye did Hardy.

Long won't bring Hardy's toolkit but he won;t call the Coach a Bih or burn up the night in Uptown either.

BUT.. Long may get better offers. And if he does, Hardy starts to look good as some point IMHO.
If he gets back to 10 sacks next year I'll chauffeur him around uptown myself as his personal Uber.

And that is making the best of what we have.

We are not going to draft the next great pass rusher in this draft. The best we can hope for is Bosa.

Is Long that much different? I think Bosa is vastly overrated.

It all hinges on Lawrence. Is he comfortable at RE? He has said repeatedly he likes the left side.

Then you see stats that show he faces less contested blocking, meaning more one on one, blocking than anyone.

That is why I want Hardy back.

I don't care about his issues with Garrett. All I know from the facts is that he will attact traffic.

So, no Hardy, you take Lawrence, and his back issues, which we honestly don't know about and the team itself has expressed shock, to RDE?

This is just an awful situation.

And one I would just throw caution to the wind and bring Hardy back on my terms.

If not, get Long.

Believe it or not, reputation means a lot in the NFL. Even players that supposedly could not play more physically can go.

You just have to take that step. Keim did in with Freeney last year and it won him a game.

In this business, it is about moments. That is why I never discount veterans.

I'm with you. Hardy is my biggest want in free agency. Well, Weddle too but I see him commanding more money. I think we can wait Hardy out and get him to come back on another short deal after he sees no one wants him. That's what I think we're doing, to be honest. All the talk that we don't want him back is just to get him to drive his price down. If we got Chris Long, I think we'd still need a WDE, either early in the draft or by switching Lawrence over. If we got Hardy, we'd have our starting D-line complete and we can draft some future starters for depth. We don't usually start rookies anyway. We usually give them a year or two on the bench before throwing them into the lineup. And I don't want to put too much pressure on Lawrence. He had a good sophomore year but we can't put all our eggs in one basket.

I accept Long as a replacement for Mincey, but he isn't a replacement for Hardy. If we signed him and went into the season with him as the starter, I would not be pleased with our efforts to improve the defense.

Yep. I think Long would be an improvement over Mincey. But it's probably a wash considering Mincey is usually healthier. But I agree, if Long is one of our starting DEs going into the season, either we had a bad off season or somebody got hurt.

The only thing is that I think Lawrence is better as a SDE than he is a WDE. He's not exceptionally quick off the ball, and that is somewhat mitigated as a problem by rushing against RTs.

Orginally he was, but North Carolina courts overturned it. Sounds like a pay off to me, but like another poster said, no need to rehash old arguments. Hardy is just not for me.

No it wasn't. He went before a judge, no jury just a judge. He wasn't even allowed to tell his story and judge said guilty which he is then able to apeal to jury trial. State couldn't get in contact with the women (who lied) and therefore lack of evidence dismissed the case. He was never convicted. He didn't pay her off.

I think something happen that night but not the extent of Hardy physically beating her. To each their own, I don't like to convict somebody without evidence in doing so

Club officials refuse to declare publicly that Greg Hardy won't return. But the writing is on the wall.

The Cowboys want to keep Jack Crawford. Defensive end Chris Long will visit Valley Ranch later this week. If the club signs both of these players in the next week to 10 days, Hardy won't be back.

It won't happen but if the Cowboys signed Long, Weddle and Hayward this place would homer out.

Depends on if the move Jones or not. I'd laugh if Weddle chose Dallas over the stealers. It wouldn't make sense. It'd be awesome with those 2 at safety.

I don't see Weddle picking the Boys but If he signs with us it would be nice. He'd be the best safety we've had since Woodson.

Byron to safety seems like the logical move at this point. Unless they draft Jalen Ramsey.
