If I remember correctly he hit his wife or mom and was arrested. I could be slightly off though.

But that's besides the point. Some people change and what he did was still a great and/or heroic thing.

Ah, i hadn't heard about anything like that. I just know he's involved with alot of environmental groups like Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Fund and things like that.

He also talked recently about how much of an inspiration Chen Guangcheng was to him and tried to go visit him and was roughed up a bit by some Chineese guards.

He's also known for being great at preparing and working hard at getting into whatever role he is cast for and has done some pretty ridiculous things for movie studios to fit what they wanted him to look and act like for certain roles.. so he's definitely dedicated to his profession.

Then with what he did for these victims here.. it seems like the only thing out of character for him was blowing up during that intense scene that the guy kept walking in on.. which several actors and actresses have defended him on, and also he did apoligize right away and admit he was being a jerk.

So overall.. seems like a pretty good person to me.

Just checked the web to refresh my memory of events. This is a quick overview of the reported events that led to the alleged assault charges:

Batman star Christian Bale confronted his mother after she allegedly insulted his wife, MailOnline has learned.

[...]

The source said: ‘Christian was stressed, but he didn’t lay a finger on anyone. Instead, he flew off the handle and cussed his mother. He just got very loud because his mother was saying some very outrageous things about him, and his wife.’

‘Christian's attitude is that this was his mother's fault because she became very provocative in an argument they were having,’ the source said, adding: ‘Things got out of control and he now says he wishes he just left the room.

‘Normally Christian would just call a friend and go out to a pub to cool off. But he was literally trapped into this confrontation with his mother and sister because there was an army of fans and paparazzi outside.’

Ah, more family arguments. Sounds like he didn't ever lay a hand on anyone there though, from the information we have.

Knowing women though.. i understand how this kind of thing happens, they can do alot of damage all while being cool as a cucumber. Sure they'll stand there all calm and smiling, as they make little "innocent" comments that will tear into your very soul, haha.

Oh, man... so true. You know I know about how that can be. Thanks for the kind words in response to that bit of shared personal business, btw. Went back and read what you wrote. Appreciate it.

He is one of the best actors out there. Top 5 IMO. I wasn't questioning that. I wasn't really questioning anything really. He's hit a couple of small bumps in the road. Who am I to judge him though? I'm usually not quick to judge anyone and catch myself when I do. I don't know anything about him to form any legitimate opinion. Movies and tabloids mean nothing. What he did was a noble thing and highly respectable. I didn't mean to diminish what he did by saying he had a checkered past. People make mistakes.

Anytime man.. i can understand how hard that must have been for you, but if it helps just one person see things more clearly then i think you'll agree it was worth it.

But yea, brother.. sometimes you have to just stand there and take it, haha.

There's a Louis C.K. joke about this that's laced with some curses so it won't be posted here but you should look for it.

No, i didn't think you were either. Sorry, should have been more clear about that. My posts were in response to the guy above you who was coming down on the guy like he was the scum of the earth. My bad, man. I understand you didn't think he was a bad guy or anything.. you were just providing info.

I know of several comedians who have incorperated this into their act, haha. I know the joke you're talking about though. Big fan of Louis C.K..

"Delusions of adequacy" ... an instant classic, and now sarcastic favorite of mine.

Absolutely hilarious!!!

It's a line I've used before, in other situations... I just think it's a bit more insulting than "delusions of grandeur"...

You are welcome to appropriate it whenever you feel it fits the occasion... since we're tight, I won't ask for royalties... :D

What is this? Some sort of PR move? Christian Bale is an *******. Have y'all not heard the audio of his EPIC rant/verbal abuse against a stage-hand? **** Christian Bale. This **** don't matter to me.

In my opinion, "hero" is overstating it a bit. However, this is the other side of that coin.

Christian Bale is a human being like anyone else. He has good moments, and he has bad moments. Have you ever yelled at someone without provocation? The difference is thus: Christian Bale's bad days are put up for the world to see.

Not even worth feeding the troll in this thread, it's not like he has a soul to feed.

Also, a huge thank you to those that held down the fort in this thread while I was at the theater watching TDKR again. If I was here, I would have probably received a 3rd infraction. :D

I've never heard of him being rude to his fans, but he was rude to someone that was messing up on set when he was filming Terminator 4. ...and much like everything a celeb does.....it was overblown and ppl judged him for it.................when they themselves get mad just like he does.

There's really no point in arguing with Mr. Faux Pedantry... we should just start calling him Cliff Claven... :D

That would be an insult to Cliff. I quite enjoyed Cliff and his bull. A lovable loser type quality.

The only difference is Cliff was amusing, and CCF isn't... other than that, CCF has a lot of Cliff in him-- he thinks he knows it all, when he really knows very little...

Including the proper definition of the word "hero"...

He even admits to being pedantic, apparently oblivious to the fact that word is not a compliment...

Nice gesture whether it was off his own back or a PR move. All I will say is that I saw a twitter campaign urging him to visit the victims to show that there are real life heroes after they were the victims of a real life villain within hours of the shooting. I don't know how much steam it gathered but could well have led to bad publicity for him if he didn't show up. In saying that sometimes you just have to give people the benefit of the doubt and as I said at the start regardless of the motive its a nice gesture that will hopefully have raised spirits a little.

He did a very nice thing. What is there to argue about? Good for him and even better for those poor people.
