I just used that example because Sterling employs young black men and pays their salaries, yet doesn't necessarily want to hang out with them aside from owning the basketball franchise.

I think its fair to say not everyone likes their supervisor, but you put up with it because they could fire you if you are insubordinate.

It's just a poor example. If I win the lottery, the guy who signed my check, didn't make me rich and in today's NBA, there is far less negotiating than your first post seemed to imply.

I guess using this logic, George Preston Marshall stopped being racist once he made Bobby Mitchell rich, even though he didn't want to socialize with African Americans

So much I'd like to say, but the reality is that racism has never gone away. In this era, it's just more covert than overt...

Yeah, it's just his opinion, but this guy was probably one of the people spitting on and waterhosing all the desegrating protestors in the 50s and 60s. He's about the right age. You can't tell me they've ALL died off.

Anyway, I'm done with this. All I can do is LOL at the outrage when the punishment doesn't fit how insensitive the remarks were.

Yea, this part is likely inevitable, why? Because unless the NBA already has a bylaw or provision for such a situation, he'll still own a highly lucrative NBA franchise when this is all said and done.

Exactly... But it's just his opinion and all his highly paid employees should ignore how he really feels and just do their job. Talk about a hostile work environment.

He's also been sued and settled in the past for refusing to rent to blacks.

Looking forward to all those Clippers coming to Dallas next year!

Keep talking Sterling.....Cuban is finding it morbidly entertaining.

On a side note, I wonder if she's with him out of true love. I'm sure they have a lot in common...

It's sad how the sickest people in this world are the most powerful. Old racist zillionaires and bimbo gold diggers.

Considering that he's married to someone else, I doubt the "girlfriend" is with him for love.

Kind of anemic analysis but he does hit some highlights. If I were the players I would refuse to play. If you cut me, I have grounds for a lawsuit as well as gaining immediate employment elsewhere. Clippers could contend that the players breach of contract resulted in unjust enrichment since NBA contracts are guaranteed but the Title VII implications are huuuuge here.

Nightmare for Clippers brass. The players hold a LOT of power.

If you can ban Pete Rose for gambling, by the way, you can ban Donald Sterling.

Just ban him for life from the NBA.

This guy has done lots of stupid and bad things in the past. And no one in the NBA did a thing. Commish, Owners, Player Association.

So now suddenly they are all self righteous?

I think it will be difficult for the league to do anything to him. First they have to prove it is actually him that said these things. Even if we assume that they can prove that, then they have to punish someone for what they said in a private conversation. He didn't say this at a press conference or somewhere out in a public setting. I think there will be some consequences as a whole, but it will be hard for the NBA to dish out anything too harsh.

Wow, talk about bait and BURN. That was one scorned woman with one goal - burn him. Bad. A totally private conversation (supposedly). (Well, except for the NSA and all...)

Sad, bad situation all around. What a mess.

I think Sterling will sell the team if Clippers refuse to play for him. The issue is that they are in a middle of a playoff run. Yes, it was nice that they made their "statement" by wearing their shirts inside out but they still played with that logo.

I think the only way they can make a statement during the playoffs is to just walk off the court like Detroit did when they know they are eliminated. They can leave their entire uniform and warmups on the bench and walk off with NBA undershirts and sweats. I think that enough will get the media something to talk about.

A boycott would hurt the players more than Sterling. Chris Paul cares more about his legacy and getting the playoff monkey off his back more than what some old guy said to his mistress. And there are guys sitting on that bench stealing money who want no part of any kind of boycott.
