C'mon, NFL, get real on Super Bowl Sunday

Big difference between hip-hop and rap. For example, I would love to see Common, Mos Def, The Roots, and possibly even Jay-Z perform at halftime. I would cringe with anger if Lil' Wayne, Gucci Mane, Soulja Boy, or any of the other ridiculously terrible "artists" were announced for a halftime show.

See, there's an awesome Super Bowl half-time right there.

And someday hopefully you will stop looking at color. I have found through life experiences the folks that yell about race tend to be the biggest racists.

The haha at the end does not justify your remarks.

ahh yes, "reverse" racists, right?

If you want to view the world that way, there is nothing I can do to stop you. I do not look at skin tone as a qualifier of who I like or dislike.

good for you! :) very few people look at skin tone as a qualifier of who they like or dislike these days. i don't either. that isn't the point.

the point is that race is still an issue that must be discussed and addressed, and our differences celebrated, rather than an attempt by anyone to sweep these differences under the rug, "as long as they act like us".

i'm glad you don't judge people by their skin colour, that's fantastic. but that doesn't mean that issues don't still persist, we are not all absolved just because we think we've overcome all prejudice in the world. we haven't.

and after reading this thread, the racial divide on the board is pretty clear, haha.

Why? I know plenty of white people who listen to hip-hop/rap. Hell, one of the most famous rap artists of all-time is white.

I love classical music and because I am part Celtic (Welsh) and part Choctaw I love all Native American music and anything Irish, especially the Corrs. I also really like the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas songs, too.

Not being a part of the drug culture, I never understood the music of the 60s and 70s and just quit listening in the early 80s. I enjoyed songs like "Nights in white satin" and "Cherish" and songs that made me feel good but quickly tired of pounding loud rock that built my blood pressure up and then left me riled up and unsatisfied.

Rap and Hip Hop disturb me greatly and cause me to feel great concern for our future.

Unfortunately it's the world we live in. If other people are so naive to believe that racism doesn't exist anymore, I apologize in advance.

Furthermore, I was just commenting on the demographics of the board - nowhere was I saying or even hinting that anyone was remotely racist.

Go lobby the MODS to reopen the Political Zone and I will be happy to discuss this further there, or feel free to send me a PM. I have enough demerits and enjoy posting here. No sarcasm. Happy to discuss. Just have to follow the rules.

casmith07 same for you. Happy to discuss in private.

That's the only point I'm trying to make - next time you go to blast someone for "pulling the race card" for any ethnicity, take a second to think if they really have reason to be upset. I'm not saying that they are always right, but there's a good chance there's something there that could be mildly offensive.

I get just as mad as the next guy, though, when some piece of crap screams racism like some sort of get-out-of-a-sticky-situation-free card.

I am taking the family to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra on the 23. If you enjoy Christmas music you should look them up.

I's not basing it on demographics, it's basing it on album sales. What actually sells, throughout the entire country.
Take record sales with a grain of salt....15 year olds aren't going out and buying the latest Kanye or Jay-Z album, they are downloading it. Heck, I haven't bought more than like 3 cds since I was like 15.

Maybe so, but trust me, Kanye West isn't outselling the Beatles by a long shot. That old music is still ringing up the sales. Somehow, I think come 40 years from now, Kanye West won't be selling anything anymore than Culture Club or Flock of Seagulls are flying off the shelves today.

The very silent majority is never taken into account.

No more hip hop ever! Rap isn't music, it's talking over someone elses music that has been remixed. The Who rocks even though only two of the original members are still with us.

And tell those dang kids to stay off my lawn!!!

LOL...Just kidding, couldn't resist :)

But seriously, I understand that not everyone may care for a certain type of music, but it doesn't erase the fact that the NFL has gone old-fogey & safe with their Superbowl performances ever since nipplegate.

Most people in the NFL, and watching the NFL listen to SOME form of contemporary music...Whether it's Rap, Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, Alternative, or even modern country. Yet, the commish continues to prop these old corpses on stage every year instead of going with some music from current times.

I understand the gripe!

pre package and soulless. Any idiot can write a country song. Red neck mindless dribble. UNLIKE the who. Pete townsend is a genius and has more soul in his left hand than the entire modern country dribble.

I say this as a 27 yr old.

Country is not my style, yet, I kin apperciate the huge success it has had. You sound very intolerate for a mere lad. I hope that as you age you do not become more intolerante. You could be like an Archie Bunker (he was in a TV show in the 70s)
Hey, your genius peter also had loads of, ahem, inappropriate photos in his computer. But I was very relieved to find that he had them as a way to investigate the very bad things that were on the Internet.

Two reasons...

1: Hip-hop, with very few exceptions, is garbage and not fit to be called music. Give me Tom Petty, The Rolling Stones or The Who anyday.

2: Hip-hop goes against the NFL's desired image. They are arent going to push "music" that personifies the thug trash they are trying to do away with. You can't in good conscience condemn players who do drugs, carry illegal firearms, assault women and "keep it real" and then endorse music that often times seeks to glorify such behavior.

I think that is what old people were saying about rock in the 60s or 70s. Saying about the Rolling Stones (misogynists and drug takers), Tom Petty (abuser of hair coloration) and the Who (drug takers, brawlers and insecure "people try to p-p-put us down . . . .").

Ifffin you don't like hip-hop, get out of the way because the hip-hop train is headed down the track and it will run over your tired preconceptions and generalizations. And biases.

and I have never bought a hip-hop CD or seen an entire hip-hop video or gone to a similar concert.
