Cobb would get TW treatment here (after thought) and not sniff those numbers. Look how creative this team is is getting the ball to their #1, yet alone their #2 (sit routes).

If they were only more creative they could have finished better than 2nd in pass completion percentage and 4th in TD passes as a team.

Cobb is dynamic but he's not Dez

And Dez is not CJ, but they are all pretty good.

Dallas could make it with Cobb or DThomas or a Draft pick especially if they stay committed to the ground game

The thing is we love Dez and want to keep him, but it takes 2 to make a deal

Don't try to dodge my question

Will Dez take the Nelson deal?
Not on your life

I wouldn't if I were dez. Jordy Nelson isn't on dez bryant level. Sorry he's not. Dez has more touchdowns in the past 3 years then any receiver

Cobb ran a 4.46 40, Dez ran a 4.52 40? Cobb might run faster at the combine in shorts but Dez plays faster/bigger. Cobb is more of a quick shifty slot WR than straight out burner, so people need to stop implying that's his role. His closer to Cole Beasley. In no universe is Cobb ever going to replace Dez as a #1 WR

I don't know what he'll end up getting, but dang we have all these plug and play people and it makes me wonder why we didn't win more SuperBowls after the 90's. It only took us this long to find a game changing receiver, a running back that can handle the load, an online to pave the way, a QB that can actually make plays.... Not to mention all the pieces that make them work-I think we should have two or three other SuperBowls considering how easy it was to replace the last group of players they drafted, trained, educated, and stood by when things got shaky. Maybe it's not so easy to let players like Dez and Demarco go and just stick someone in their place and not miss a beat. I really don't know but past experience says no. So let's not be so quick to bring in other receivers to replace DEZ because I'm sure they won't give us what he does; on the field in practice or in the locker room.

I know I am going to be called crazy for saying this... but if we could franchise him... then trade that tag. I am not sure that would be the worst idea in the world $13 million... and probably 2 first round draft picks... that could go to revitalize our defense, and get a very good WR like Strong or the like. Or we could have a slightly disgruntled Dez... or a happy Dez that we mortgaged our future for. I want to see Dez win that trophy here... but man could we get a good defense with what it might take to keep him.

If Cleveland said "we'll give both of our 1st round picks from this year and take 13 mill of cap room off your hands",yes, we could take that.

So three 1st rounders, a full draft after that, and all that extra cap room? Whoa

Can't see it happening.

So I the real world, I just hope we find a sane way to keep Dez.

Two first round picks this year might not happen, but first round this year, and first round next year could, or a first and second this year, or the like wouldn't surprise me at all. Look at what we did to get Roy Williams or Joey Galloway... *sighs*

This statement is completely logical and makes all the sense in the world.

Having said that, Cobb is very much like Edelman and truthfully is better than Edelman. They are both top notch slot WRs who end up playing outside a lot.

Edelman was WR1 in the Patriots and down in and down out moved the chains and was basically uncoverable when they needed him to be.

My point isn't to say Cobb / Edelman are better than Dez Bryant. My point is there are lots of ways of move the ball down the field and you don't necessarily need a Dez Bryant / Julio Jones / Calvin Johnson type to do it.

Randall Cobb reportedly wants $9 million per year

I'd be running up to him with a check immediately and would be telling Dez thanks, and good luck. Heck, with the savings you could now sign Murray if you wanted to. I probably wouldn't, unless he's willing to settle for 4mill per, but the team might think otherwise.

Cobb would give us more of a deep threat along with being able to play multiple positions.

The only problem with that is that Cobb is a slot WR. ALL (o.k. not all, but most) of his damage is done from the slot. 9 Mil/per is at the VERY top end for a slot WR. Dez is a different animal and his production would not come close to being duplicated by the likes of Randall Cobb. Don't fool yourself.

Dez will get tagged if he doesn't agree to a new deal before the early March dead line. That is a smart football decision. Dez will probably not sign the franchise tag, which is also a pretty good decision. The bad decision is if Dez basically throws a fit because they dared to tag him and decides to not keep on talking about a contract. The truth of the situation is that both sides don't want Dez to play on the franchise tag this year. Both sides want there to be a deal in place, one for safety of finances and the other side for cap purposes. Unless one side is almost totally unreasonable something will get done.

Give me jordy at 9-10 mill over Dez at 14 mill every day

I know right?:D Completion % isn't make or break, if anything it shows the team wasn't willing to take many shots = Witten drag/sit routes. TW scored a lot of TD's, but he was never a consistent threat in the passing game outside of the RZ. He also was not game planned for in the way Cobb would be if the #2 WR was given a heightened role in this offense (hypothetically). The passing offense was at a heightened efficiency due to the running game and the lack of deep attempts; Romo has always been a great passer.

Cobb is not Dez Bryant. He's also featured in a pass happy offense with the leagues best QB.

And at least to me comes after Jordy Nelson in the progression. Jordy is their Dez. Cobb is T Will or in some cases Cole Beasley

Agree. Similar thinking in my response to this thread
