Cole Beasley's next contract

And let's not forget, we traded to get Austin. Before Coop got here, he was our most explosive receiver. I'd be shocked if he wasn't back.

If they could get him at those numbers, they'd keep him.

He'll want significantly more.

Depends..

We certainly need to have a replacement. You can go different directions here, but I'd prefer to have the same type of quick twitch player for our offense.

Personally I don't even want to give my answer on this one until the end of the season. Say our offense continues improving and is just really clicking towards the end of the season... ...and we hoist the Lombardi. Say Beasely becomes what he was in 2016 for Dak throughout the playoffs.

Right or wrong, that might alter my perspective a little bit.

Yes, I am. He's shown how explosive he can be without Cooper on the field. He's faster than Beasley, he's younger, better kickoff or punt returner, and I think he won't command as much money.

With Coop and Gallup, we get to see Tavon vs CB3s, safeties, and LBs - in space? Drool.

Relying on Tavon Austin to be a consistent contributor would be like going into a season with Hurns, Beasley, Twill, Thompson, and Austin as your WR core. How'd that work out?

He won't be back. Here's his replacement:

Coop
Gallup
Austin

^starters next season. Book it.
That is the answer. He will be signed way cheaper than Beasley and can still be effective playing on the outside. I know some may not like this, but I still think Allen Hurns can play the slot if this team is sold on Cooper and Gallup for the outside. Hurns may not have turned out the way we want him to be on the outside, but I think he can still create matchup issues against 3rd string corners and linebackers due to his size.

Beasley is looking to get paid and I don't blame him. However, the Cowboys need to pay some of the Cowboys who are currently on their rookie deals more than resigning Beasley.

Yep, you can't just say let him walk without a suitable replacement. We should be about getting better not worse.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

When comparing Beasley $'s to Austin $, don't forget to factor in $ for an Austin contingency plan since he's never actually been a consistently good player.

All of you are saying, "let him walk", but you watch....Jerry will pay him. Mark my words or is that "read my lips"? lol

Beasley is a reliable, underrated WR who will sign with somebody else in the offseason, and produce better than he ever has, much to the disdain of Cowboyszone, where everyone will proclaim about how stupid it was not to resign him.

Per over the cap, Cole Beasley signed a four year $13.6 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys on March 3, 2015. Beasley received a $4 million signing bonus and $5 million in full guarantees. His 2016 salary will become fully guaranteed of on the roster the 5th day of the 2016 League Year. He is eligible for annual $500,000 escalators.

The front office has a big decision once his contract is expiring at the end of this season. Beasley has been a reliable player for this franchise.

He caught 75 passes from Dak in 2016 for 833 yards for 5TDs. In 2017, his production dropped off while only catching 36 balls for 314 yards and 4TDs. But we all know how much of a disaster 2017 was for everyone. He has already surpassed last years numbers this season catching 48 passes for 468 yards and 2 scores. And is the teams 2nd leading receiver.

How would you handle Beasley at the end of this year? Do you let him walk in free agency and if so how do you plan on replacing his production. Or do you ink him to a new deal.

Personally, I think he is worth a new contract and slightly over pay him considering his past deal.

4 years 22-24 million
2019 Cap Number 4.5 million
2020 Cap Number 5.5 million
2021 Cap Number 6 million
2022 Cap Number 6.5 million (if cut, 6.5 million in cap savings.

I'd say 4 years for 24 million would be my ceiling on him. But if ends up walking, trading Switzer made absolutely no sense. We used a 4th round pick on him and basically got nothing in return.

Tavon Austin is just to injury prone to be tasked with the starting slot receiver position. Can't count on him.
That would be another Jerry "Dumbo GM" Jones move. You never re-sign a slot WR that can easily be replaced.

Example - Beasley is 48-468-2 TD. Ryan Switzer is 29-223- 1 TD. The issue is that Cole Beasley has been in the NFL for 7 years. Switzer a grand total of 2 years playing with Brown and JuJu ahead of him. What was stopping Beasley from shining in 2017 and 2018 (before Cooper showed up)? He needs a no.1 to shine. Because all slot WR need a no.1 to shine. You do not need to resign them let alone a 3rd resign deal.

Do you know how many Cole Beasley's come out of college every year? Too many to count and they are good.

Learn from Bill Belichick and Sean Payton regarding slot WRs using the words of Easy E "Throw it the gutter and go buy another". Save the cap space for impact positions.

...I really doubt it. Bease wants primer receiver cash. Cowboys already have Tavon, Cooper, Gallup, Hurns...etc. ..and whoever else they might get.

My gut tells me Cole doesn’t want to resign here. I’m guessing he’s like to go somewhere he can put up good numbers.

No way do I sign him much less for 20 plus million. I rather that money go to Cooper and draft another guy this season.

Cooper
Gallup
Brown
Wilson
Austin
Draft pick

He would be our leading receiver if Cooper wasn't brought in.

If he is average, what do you consider the rest of our receivers
Cooper is currently our only above average WR. Gallup is tending to be bring above average. Everyone else is average or below.

The truth is we are going to lose a lot of players that we like it in some cases love just because they are average even though they may do a good job for us. But when you have players that do a great job for us then we have to pay them and all of them might not get paid. It's the nature of the beast

The issue is you are going to have to pay somebody. They are all going to cost about the same. Keep Hurns next year you pay him 6.25 million (cut him you get back 5 million). Tavon Austin was actually paid 7 million this season, we were only on the hook for 3. Beasley will be around the 6 million dollar range somewhere. So regardless of which one you choose you are going to pay for it. IMO I think Tavon and Beasley will be the most expensive options to keep. I'd let them both walk and keep Hurns. I would keep getting more game time for Noah Brown because he's such a great blocking WR. In the Saints game I saw at least three plays where he blocked a Safety or a Linebacker and got Zeke extra yardage. We haven't been doing that most of the year. It's a great X factor. He can also catch and would be a surprise element because he would be expected to block.

Again though this whole subject frustrates me because we had Switzer on the cheap and let him go. I think Beasley will excel somewhere else.

I'd give Beasley about what Edelman gets. ~5.5 per year average. If he wants a bigger deal let him get it somewhere else. I like him, but his production can be replaced, and Cooper and Gallup are already better options than him in the passing game. The days of him being our best or 2nd best receiving target are gone.

Bease is likely gone - at his age, this is going to be his last big payday. He's going to the highest bidder.
