Buffalo actually cut him, then signed him back at about half of the 4 million he was making. Good thing they did that or he would probably have been too expensive for the Cowboys to sign.

He does have some incentives in his contract for playing time that can get him up to 2 million more, but no idea if they come with him or not. Need a contract guru.

Contract comes with him.

If he is well protect, he can drive the bus till Romo gets back. That said, I think we still have to give Weeden his shot. He knows the Cowboys offense better than Cassel.

Pretty basic but smart GMship.
Get a vet in and get him ready in case of emergency.
Moore is the developmental guy. He's basically a Vaughn replacement.

Cassel is going to give you about 190 yards passing and 1 TD with 1 INT in an average game.
Dallas can probably live with that.

Pretty smart? This is a guy we should have gotten for free when he was cut by the bills the first time.

Vick was another possibility.

They're saying Moore will still back up Weeden this week. Since we just traded for Cassell doesn't that mean we're gonna need another roster spot?

By your logic Tom Brady is a product of New England's system as well. If he's so awful how is he started for a playoff team and a team that won 11 games? He obviously did enough to quarterback two teams to double digit wins. There's no reason the couldn't do the same for the Cowboys.

We need a guy who can manage the game, not turn it over, and play within the offensive system. Cassell can do that. You people want an Aaron Rodgers, Tony Romo, Peyton Manning. None of those guys are on the market.

Some people like to complain for the sake of complaining. We're not going to ask Cassel to carry the team of course, it will be the D and running game while expecting Cassel to make the occasional efficient throw. He can do that.

Terrell McClain went to IR so there were two spots open today.

Cassel is absolutely no better than either Flynn or Ponder. His best year came in 08, we all know that was the Patriots system. You then had 2010, he didn't do anything in 2010 - you had Jamaal Charles who rushed for 1,400 yards and Thomas Jones who rushed for nearly 1,000 himself. The star of that team was the rushing attack along with a solid defense.

There's a very real possibility that Weeden stinks it up and this guy gets playing time. I get backup QBs won't lead you to the Super Bowl, but this guy won't even keep you in games. He's awful.

So who would you have signed who was actually better and availible

I have no problem with Cassell coming in. Need an option should Weeden become Weeden. We just need a bus driver in there to not make boneheaded plays. Check downs with Randle, Dunbar or DMAC may not be a bad choice. And he does bring experience along with some prior success-----that's all you can hope for at this stage.

I may be alone in this, but I'm OK with this move. I wanted him over Weeden during the pre-season.

Obviously the team felt there is not enough experience with Weeden.

This a big trade for us.

I think everybody knew how thin our chances with Weeden were.

This gives us a fighting chance now.

Front office did well again.

And with a two game lead over Philly and Jints..

we have a cushion to sort things out.

Feeling much better now.

I would argue, yeah, Brady has been blessed being a part of a great offensive system most of his career.

And I just told you why he started for a team and got tot he playoffs. The Chiefs that year had a dominant rushing attack that took a lot of the heat off of Cassel, that was 5 seasons ago.

And again, no I don't think we will find a QB on the level of franchise QBs in this league, obviously. I want a capable backup that can actually keep us in games with limited mistakes. That's not Cassel, unless you think our rushing attack will become dominant again. This crap should have been sorted out in the offseason so we weren't scrambling to snatch up QBs like him.
