Cassel, Moore and Weeden. Now we have some decent options to choose from. We also have competition and a backup in case of performance or injury.

I expect good things from Weeden (yes, he gets to have at least one more shot) and if it doesn't work out the other two arms can compete for their opportunity.

We are "developing" anyone here. This is just for a 7 game stop gap. Let the best man win.

My only gripe is we didn't pick up Cassell when he was cut by the bills. I thought he would be a good pick up for free, hence I still like this move.

At least two quarterbacks now, that have real NFL experience and a little talent. The odds of winning has gone up. If Dallas can just handle Atlanta in Dallas this weekend.

Obviously the team felt there is not enough experience with Weeden.

This a big trade for us.

I think everybody knew how thin our chances with Weeden were.

This gives us a fighting chance now.

Front office did well again.

And with a two game lead over Philly and Jints..

we have a cushion to sort things out.

Feeling much better now.

Hate to break it to you but Cassel is QB2 behind the Weed.

I would argue, yeah, Brady has been blessed being a part of a great offensive system most of his career.

And I just told you why he started for a team and got tot he playoffs. The Chiefs that year had a dominant rushing attack that took a lot of the heat off of Cassel, that was 5 seasons ago.

And again, no I don't think we will find a QB on the level of franchise QBs in this league, obviously. I want a capable backup that can actually keep us in games with limited mistakes. That's not Cassel, unless you think our rushing attack will become dominant again. This crap should have been sorted out in the offseason so we weren't scrambling to snatch up QBs like him.

Stop complaining! Who is it YOU WANTED this offseason and for what cap price?? Answer those two questions or go away.

matt cassel actually has some decent starts. Not like weeden. I mean I hope weeden can win us games but now we have Cassel to try out incase he can't.

I think Cassel's a step above any other "veteran" QB we were interested and unlike the rest of them, he's actually a veteran NFL QB. He's battle tested.

Correct. One typically does not win with solely a backup qb. One does typically win with good protection, strong run game and suffocating defense that can cause turnovers. Special teams contributions welcome.

Cowboys acquired QB Matt Cassel from the Bills.

NFL.com's Albert Breer reports the sides are swapping 2017 draft picks as compensation, with the Bills getting a fifth-rounder. The 33-year-old veteran provides experienced insurance behind fill-in starter Brandon Weeden, who has been among the worst starters in the league when he's taken the field. It's possible the Cowboys will eventually turn to Cassel. The earliest Tony Romo (collarbone) can return is Week 11.

Why do you suppose Cassel beat Ponder out in MIN and Dallas preferred him to Ponder in our situation right now if he's absolutely no better? Why did BUF trade for Cassel instead of Ponder, for that matter? It would seem like multiple teams at this point have disagreed with the absolute assessment of 'some dude on a message board,' and I wonder why that could be.

To be honest, it sort of makes me question all the faith I used to have in convicted opinions on the internet.

First off, Cassel has been with Chiefs, Vikings, and Bills since leaving the Chiefs. The Vikings didn't fight to keep Cassel after the 2014 season. Then Cassel had trouble beating out both Manuel and Taylor in Buffalo.

The only good option that was out there right now is Flynn. He at least can drive the ball down field and keep you in games.

I mentioned his name in another thread earlier today...funny the Boys made a move for him as added insurance. Solid spot starter. Bus driver extraordinaire.

"Bus driver" is an apt term for the guy. If you force him to have to pass the ball downfield a lot you're going to get a lot of ugliness. If you just ask him to manage the game... so much the better.

Wonder if this is another 5th for 6th swap. Even if it is a 5th for 7th, that's a pretty low cost. Cassel ain't great but he's smart and is a reasonable option if Weeden doesn't play well.

I haven't read all the posts in this thread yet, but I'm guessing its about 50-50 for approval rating. I am okay with this move. They didn't settle, they weren't happy with the guys they looked at and felt they had to do a little better.
I'm not making Cassel about to be Don Strock or Frank Reich as far as back-up QB's go...but I think its pretty much safe to say they turned over every stone and acquired who they think is the best of what was available.
