I certainly agree that college needs a playoff format; however, I think it has been a great year of college football. Teams and certain conferences are stronger than ever. The SEC has continued to wear out great teams and give them 1-2 losses. The PAC has had teams ranked 1,2, and 4-6 all year...teams aren't ending up with 1-2 losses because they aren't really as good as advertised; it's because the competition throughout their conferences is tremendous.
I follow the PAC and the USC Trojans closely. If USC had lost 2 games five years ago, they would have been in rebuilding mode. This year, though they lost to lowly Stanford, everything can be pointed at playing teams like Calf., Arizona ST., Oregon, UCLA, and others....it's hard for any team to win them all when playing other teams that are great. LSU is a perfect example in the SEC...they didn't lose to the top teams in their conference. Instead they lost to Kentucky and Arkansas....how embarrassing. Yet, I believe that has a lot to do with all the tough games every other week.
The championship game this year may very well end up being Missouri against WVA, but does anyone actually think those are really the top two teams in the NCAA?
The best bowl game this year may very well end up being the Rose Bowl, where it looks like you could have USC and Ohio State.
I think it's been a great college season, and I think we've seen some great teams and certainly more great teams playing each other than ever before. Does anyone really want to return to the years of the past when some teams went undefeated by scheduling half their games against teams that provided "Sure Wins" ?
