is this one of the worst drafts in recent memory? oline, linebackers, secondary seem below average. dline has some depth but not many stars. receivers and qbs are top heavy.

Oline isn't bad but there really aren't any LT in this draft. As far as Gs it is a terrific one with Collins and Scherff, Tomlinson etc all these guys are going to be starters. WR is outstanding, RBs are very good depth wise not a lot of guys outside of 3-4 of them are starter quality.

Dline is terrific for DT and DE is not bad. True there are not 4 or 5 guys on the inside and then the outside that are mind blowing but they will be a very good group.

I think this is closer to average draft than a bad one. but yes TE is extremely weak, QB very very weak, Safety weak. Linebackers non 3-4 mediocre, is not a special or outstanding draft.

I don't think so. The DB times are sub par but there are some good players there that simply aren't as fast as you'd hope. The trend with DB's seems to be going to the longer guys who simply won't time as well. A good 5'10" corner will simply be faster than a good 6'0" one, but on the field, the same height that slowed them at the combine becomes a functional advantage when trying to defend the pass. That is just a hunch of mine.

The DE's are way above a normal year. Several will be first round picks.

There does seem to be a shortage of 43 OLB's this year and Dawson laying an egg yesterday only made it worse. I don't like Shaq Thompson as much as many do either. There are some ok guys but it is pretty devoid of top end talent at this position.

Corner isn't bad although there have been years where they timed a lot better in Indy. I do like Waynes a lot and I think he would be a good one in any draft with his speed and length. Collins might turn out to be a nice corner too. My pet cat is Kevin Johnson, although he will not go real early. Johnson along with a few others are in the second tier/ second day group that has some nice players in it.

For the safeties, this is definitely not a good year, although most years don't have very many good ones. Collins is a nice player but that is about it as far as drafting early in my opinion. And Collins isn't going to be the good, deep safety that teams need so much these days.

As for offense... the RB's are very nice this year. I really like several of them and I think both Gruley and Gordon could be special.

OL doesn't have as many top 15 picks as a lot of years but there are some really good players that are just a shade below the elite tier.

WR's are good this year. Really good.

TE is bad and QB is pretty shallow as well. Depending on what you think about Winston and Mariota, it could be a really bad year there.

Trae Waynes improves to 4.32

They just made it 4.31 officially. As I said yesterday, I saw every game he played in college and 6 were in person. Kid is unreal. Too bad he will be gone between 10-15 because we could really use him.

I wouldn't go that far. This is a incredibly deep draft for corners, wr's and dlineman, maybe not in high end talent but you'll see quite a few good players go in the mid rounds. If the the two QB's turn out to be players, I think it will be considered a pretty good draft looking back.

just curious how does a broad jump translate for a corner on the field?

Explosiveness in breaking on the ball. If a WR is running an out route, or a comeback, it would translate in the corner's ability to plant and drive. Broad jump shows explosiveness with no momentum aiding the jump.

...I should add that he benched 19 reps. For a guy who is 6' and 186 lbs thats awesome

At Mesa CC, we played him at CB (and eventually PR, KR, and WR). I was surprised Coach Graham moved him to safety but he played well there as well. I call him Prime Time because he looked like a man amongst boys at the JuCo level (plus he didn't really like to tackle). Really proud of him and will root for whatever team he goes to (please don't be the Commanders).
