Interesting,, he certainly has ball tracking skills but not sure about his tackling ability.

From what I've read he's a willing tackler and probably will get better over time. Everyone seems to agree that he has really good ball skills. With a little patience and time, I think he can be an Ed Reed "type". They have physical similarities also, both the same height and 40 times.

Everyone knows by now that he's only played a year of college ball. What most may not realize and is more intriguing is the fact that while in HS, he was primarily an offensive threat. So the MAC defensive player of the year award went to a player who's played the position for the first time in forever.

I think this kid has one of the biggest ceilings in the draft.

It's easy to get caught in the hoopla of the numbers, but don't forget that it's the gametape that matters.

There's no doubt that Waynes probably made himself a ton of money today and likely put himself in the top 15.

I really like Waynes but he's more of a man CB. In our scheme, I think we might want more zone capabilities. Not saying he can't play zone but I think this guy goes way early if he can play bump and run at his size and speed. I don't think we are going to be in a position to get him.

You know what's weird? The constant lack of coverage safeties. You would think as football has become so pass happy over the years you'd see more of a supply of safeties who excel in coverage, yet I haven't seen an increase in those kinds of players. Every year they are a rare commodity. You have a ton of box safeties and maybe 1 or 2 with good range.

He was my number 1 corner before the combine.

He was my number 1 corner before the combine.

I liked him all along as well but I knew that after he ran, he would move up the boards. Rumors from the Sparty Faithful was that he could fly and I had watched him play so 2 plus 2 usually means high pick. I just think he will be gone way before we have a chance to pick him unless we really move up and that's going to be expensive. Would be nice but I'm thinking we probably won't be able to. Hope I'm wrong though.

They are all working to become WRs. More money in it. I think you are right, you see fewer good Free Safeties these days but every year, there are more 6-2 205 lbs WRs, and up, who can run.

Possible, think I'd rather do that with Shaw though. He might actually be a better safety than corner anyhow.

Yes, I like that idea. Unfortunately, someone will probably overdraft him now as a big CB.

I think Eric Rowe from Utah should be getting a little more attention around here as a FS option....6'1 205 4.45 40 and 39" vertical. 3 year starter at FS before moving to CB his SR year to help the team out.

You know why some have not heard much of Byron Jones before the combine? Go look at some game tape and you'll have your answer.

At Mesa CC, we played him at CB (and eventually PR, KR, and WR). I was surprised Coach Graham moved him to safety but he played well there as well. I call him Prime Time because he looked like a man amongst boys at the JuCo level (plus he didn't really like to tackle). Really proud of him and will root for whatever team he goes to (please don't be the Commanders).

Like both Demarious Randall & Adrian Amos quite a bit as later round guys at FS. Both have CB backgrounds with fairly significant time starting at safety. Amos also ran pretty well.

It's a positive that Randall doesn't seem to mind tackling now...leading ASU with 106 total tackles last season (87 solo stops).

Yep, Graham's defense at ASU tends to funnel plays to the two safeties who both play closer than your traditional safety would. In his first start (in Jerry World against Notre Dame) he had 17 tackles, I talked to him afterwards and joked that he had more tackles in that game than he did all year with us.

Just saw Chris Hackett ran a 4.81. I had been seeing him in the 2nd rd everywhere lately, but I seriously doubt that happens now. Any guesses where hes drafted now? Late 4th-5th if I had to guess now.

And before anyone says tape above all, I don't think that applies when metrics are THAT bad. The combine shouldn't boost a player tremendously if they are a workout warrior, but I'm a believer it should push players down if they severely underperformed what even an average player does.

I guess in the college game, they stick those guys at corner more often than not

IDK, late in the yr it seemed Dallas went to alot more man. Seems like the majority of the time they went zone was when they were in 3rd and long. And that was usually a 1st down. Id love to see the zone alot less this yr. they have the CBs to play man.
