Bar, I think, is a DE all the way. I don't think he's an OL in a 34. Murphy is interesting but he's pretty slow. Not big enough to stand up against the Strong Side, not quick enough to play the weakside DE. Not fast enough to play LB. Didn't really show well at the Sr. Bowl against a lot of those Tackles.

Too slow to play DE in a 4-3? His short area quickness and agility #'s are right on par with Barr. Same with the jumping #'s to show his explosiveness as an athlete. Murphy doesn't have the same straight line speed as Barr but his 20 yard time was only .01 slower which is all that really matters for a DE as far as I'm concerned. I only bring this up because everybody is saying how much they would jump at Barr if he's there at 16. I'm not so sure there's a huge difference between Barr and Murphy to be honest.

I have not seen his numbers but for a DE, the 10 time is what's more important then the 20. How quick does he come off the snap. Murphy's might be great but I never saw that quick twitch speed off the ball from him.

And for the record, I said too slow to play LB. I said not quick enough to play WSDE.

I never said to slow to play DE.

Big fans of them both, seen them many times in person, high school and college.

Murphy has a ridiculous motor and he would bring some much needed toughness to this Defense.

The thing about Barr is he was dedicated to playing RB. He ran for 200 yards and 3 o r4 TD's opening game against my son's CIF championship team. USC wanted him to play Defense but Anthony was convinced he was a RB and chose UCLA over SC and his father's alma mater, Notre Dame. He has really only concentrated on Defense for 2 years and was already one of the best players in the nation. He is going to get better with pro coaching.

I'd jump at Barr at 16. I'd risk trading down a few spots to target Murphy.

Risen said numbers don't matter to him, not Sam's number, but numbers.

I asked why is he in a thread about numbers, so my question was directly responding to his statement.

As far as Sam goes, I don't think I've ever gave my opinion of his as a prospect. Typically if I see a comment that I disagree with, I make a comment and the vast majority of them have been non football related. Since this is a combine thread, I didn't even want to bring the opinions surrounding Sam into this thread. All I did was bring some comparable (before I saw the official time) numbers into the discussion.

These workout numbers don't mean anything to me. But they do to the teams to a varying degree. It does effect draft value. So if you want to follow the draft you have to pay attention to them.

Michael Sam running a 4.9 today does not mean he can't effectively rush the passer in the NFL.

His 10 yard was 1.63 which was on par with the 2nd tier DE's (Lawrence, Chrichton, Ealy) but not elite like Barr at 1.56.

Ok well now this Conversation is about Kareem Martin. 6'6 272 34" arms and 1.53 10 yard split, which was better than Clowney and everyone else. 11.5 sacks and 21.5 tfl last year. Can I sell you on him in the 2nd or am I 0 for 3 lol?

Which was my point. He may not be able to, we will see over the course of his career, but how fast he can run 40 yards with out pads isn't the determining factor.

Seantrel Henderson 5.03 40, fast for his size.

And he was unbelievably bad @ the SR Bowl. I wouldn't touch him before the 4th round. Reminds me of another guy a few years ago Bruce Campbell(Maryland). Henderson sure looks the part....and then just get abused by speed rushers. No thanks:(

Agreed.

I remember years ago a fella by the name of ElRhino announced to everyone that Terrell Suggs couldn't play in the NFL after his mediocre performance at the combine that year. Could. Not. Play. The geek numbers proved it.

Then after a defensive rookie of the year season and a march to eventually playing in Pro Bowls and being named Defensive Player of the Year, ole ElRhino disappeared from these forums.

Every time I see people get too into combine numbers I think of that melvin.

Ok so is he officially a safety yet though? 6'2 218 with 4.4 speed is not any LB I''ve ever heard of. Wonder what the deal with him being able to play safety actually is?

I like Telvin Smith's game tape...One of my favorites. But watching him today...I kind of think exposed his lack of ball skills. His hands when picking off passes are bad. He is a body catcher. But he is such a playmaker all over the field. I'm really torn what to think. He's too light to be an everydown LBer. Not enough ball skills to convert to SS full time. I think that is why FSU made him a LB instead of a SS. They had to find a way to get in on the field because he is such a good/fast athlete. But if they had made him a SS then he might have been exposed in coverage.

From BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1---

One of the most surprising weighs-in came from Louisville safety Calvin Pryor, a contender to be the first safety selected and a potential top-20 pick. The 5-foot-11, 207-pounder was three inches shorter than his listed height of 6-2. His weight was accurate. Pryor's arm length (31 3/8) was also on the short side. Pryor's weigh-in was disappointing.

That is highly unusual for a listed height to be that off.

Today's the day. It's cornerback evaluation time. I can't wait.

You can never have too many corners.
