"We Didn't Know It Was The End": Jonathan Frakes On Directing Star Trek Discovery Series Finale

By John Orquiola | ScreenRant

<snip>

In an interview with Variety conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strikes, Jonathan Frakes explained how he came aboard to direct the first half of Star Trek: Discovery's season 5 finale, only to later learn that Paramount+ canceled the show, which made season 5 the final season. Read his quote below:

“I directed the first half of the finale of Season 5, which turned out to be the real finale. So that was a very emotional end as well. When we did it, we didn’t know it was the end. And then [‘Discovery’ executive producer and director] Olatunde Osunsanmi had to go back up and do two or three days of new stuff to actually make the finale the finale.”

That’s surprising to hear. I thought Discovery was Star Trek’s flagship show. To read that it was cancelled is shocking.

Top 10 Strongest Villains in The Marvel Universe!

GALACTUS

Galactus is definitely a universe-level threat but I would not classify him as a villain. The Devourer of Worlds' existence is maintaining balance between life and death.

The Hunger is not malevolent. Galactus does not act on devious motivations like Thanos. He is simply a cosmic force of nature.

I wished it had more opportunities to explore its current FAR future storyline. And just when I thought Oded Fehr (Admiral Vance) had finally found a live action television series home, lol. Most of his television career has been filled with guest star appearances. I really like him as an actor, even if it is in a supporting role.

I like him too, going back to the Mummy franchise.

I love Discovery , but since Strange New Worlds came out, I can see where they steer the ship in that direction.

I agree that Strange New Worlds is currently their best Trek show, especially given Discovery’s most recent season. But with Picard now done, I expected that they would still have more than one ongoing series.

I’m not more likely to drop my Paramount subscription when there’s no Trek series.

'Comics and Movies' can fit a wide range of topics that would be intrusive in other Off-Topic threads. Unless someone created a specific thread with a title like 'Star Trek, that is. :D
I was thinking the Netflix/streaming thread would be more appropriate.

Neither would I declare Galactus a villain either. He's been perceived as more of a force of nature. Such as a natural disaster.
He's more in a survival mode than it is conquer territory and genocide - unlike his herald Terrak the Terrible.

I never found the Beyonder as evil or villaneous either

One of the main reasons why this thread exists is because it would be more prudent to not have lengthy subdiscussions about topics such as Star Trek series, etc. within a thread like that.

Huh? Not sure how the character has grown over the years but The Beyonder created the first Secret Wars decades ago. He mutilated worlds to manufacture a makeshift battlefield for the heroes and villains to fight, just for his sick amusement. That is pretty evil and villainous in my opinion.

Okay, then what's the purpose of that thread?
