When Every DC Comic for a Month Had Its Title Worked Into Its Cover Image

By Brian Cronin | CBR
June 10, 2024

I Can't Cover What I Am is a feature where I spotlight a collection of comic book covers (of at least ten covers...okay, I also typically stop at ten, so I should just say "ten covers") that follow a specific theme. Today, we spotlight DC's December 2001 covers, where every book in that month had its title worked into the cover.

DC Comics still occasionally does cool stuff like this, but back in the late 1990s/early 2000s, it seems like DC was always trying to come up with some sort of fun company-wide idea to just stand out. In December 2001, DC decided to do a linewide bit where every one of its superhero comic book titles for the month of December 2001... Read more
____________

The article has 33 different covers. The Detective Comics, Supergirl and Doom Patrol covers were my three overall favorites. The article mainly displays the covers, so it is a really fun read--without any real need to read it, lol.

Ahead Of Ahsoka Season 2, The Star Wars Show’s Composer Shared How Dave Filoni Has Already Started Preparing Him For The Next Episodes

By Adam Holmes | Cinema Blend
June 11, 2024

Following guest appearances in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano finally got to take center stage last year in her own TV series streaming exclusively to people who have a Disney+ subscription. The Ahsoka Season 1 finale ended with plenty of cliffhangers, so fans of the show can take comfort knowing that Ahsoka Season 2 is officially happening. When it will arrive on the slate of upcoming Star Wars TV shows remains to be seen, but composer Kevin Kiner, who scored Ahsoka with his children Sean and Deana, told CinemaBlend that creator Dave Filoni has already started preparing him for the next episodes in a unique way.

During my conversation with Kiner, which included him talking about the “challenge” that comes with scoring for Grand Admiral Thrawn, he gave the below answer when I asked if he’d talked with Filoni about what’s coming in Ahsoka Season 2 so he can start building a musical foundation... Read more

The hero is a monster everyone wants to kill. He hides as a human in order to protect humanity, fighting side by side with those who defend humanity against the monsters and would destroy him without a second thought.

Then, when the REAL big bad is going to blast an entire city off the face of the Earth, he stops hiding to save them all.

So. They arrest him.

And the series' first season ends.

I really really REALLY dislike anime sometimes. :banghead:

EDIT: Whoops! Two more episodes to go this season. Went a little bonkers there for a second. haha. :D

...but it is only two more episodes.

Jubilee's History as a Vampire, Explained

By Cass Clarke | Marvel.com
June 15, 2024

Known for her fiery antics and explosive neon style, Jubilation Lee debuted in Chris Claremont and Marc Silvestri's UNCANNY X-MEN (1963) #244. After her parents' sudden death, Jubilee spent her teen years living in malls and using her energy blast powers to create dazzling light shows for money. But her wandering ended when she witnessed the Reavers' ambush on Wolverine in UNCANNY X-MEN (1963) #251. After helping him, the two forged a familial bond, leading her to join the X-Men.

Notably, Jubilee is one of the only X-Men to become a vampire—an affliction of which she was cured after almost a decade. As she taps that experience to survive BLOOD HUNT in X-MEN: BLOOD HUNT - JUBILEE (2024) #1 by Preeti Chhibber and Enid Balam, let's look back at her transformation, her vampiric allies the Forgiven, and her long road to recovery...Read more

Happy Father's Day to Shazam and His Weird Hot Demon Daughter
By Rosie Knight | DC.com
June 14, 2024

Did you know that Shazam is a father? No, no, not that Shazam. Not the superhero who's actually a child who transforms into an adult—that would be weird and kinda icky. I'm talking about the Wizard Shazam A.K.A. Jebediah of Canaan A.K.A. the magical man behind Billy Batson and the rest of the Shazamily getting their powers. He’s actually a father, and in a shocking turn of events, his daughter is a sexy demon known as Blaze who has been causing chaos in the pages of DC comics since 1990. So, seeing as Father's Day is this weekend, let's revisit this most unexpected daddy daughter relationship...Read more

Official Timeline: The Eras of Star Wars (link)

Every saga has a beginning, middle, and end. The stories of the galaxy far, far away span thousands of years, with eras defined along a mythological timeline giving context to its past, present, and future. As Star Wars continues to expand and evolve, these eras provide a sense of scope to an epic tale still being told.

Agree with most of this guy’s opinions. Good mix of constructive criticism on the failures that have made DC start over and Marvel enter hibernation while it goes back to planning room.

I took a quick peek at what the reviewer said about Man of Steel. His opinion matches mine, which I am *almost* thankful for. :muttley:

He does seem to know his stuff and orates cleanly and contextually, so it is extremely likely I will watch to both videos completely despite their lengths. I am especially eager to listen to his thoughts on Justice League 2021, Captain Marvel and Eternals.

Going from memory…

Calls Eternals first Marvel misstep. Audiences couldn’t relate or enjoy characters as much as other MCUs, and was basically a pointless movie once Marvel acquired Fox. Says (and I agree) they should have just sped up their new X-Men rights which are audience favorites.

Captain Marvel 2, too much girl power. Misjudges what people want in comic book movies.

Justice League… I think he really trashes Batman vs Superman more as the downfall and poor direction decisions that doomed the franchise. DC in a bind once Snyder’s kid dies, and ruin the film trying to force it into an Avengers Clone, but the franchise was still forgettable with the darker Snyderverse vision anyways.

I like how he combines practical franchise missteps, and what the general audience and hardcore comic fans both want to see. I normally don’t like the YouTube videos that center on someone trying to be the commentator but he pulls it off.

Wait. Are you posting the cliff notes on his videos? I thought you wanted folks to watch them? :p

DC's Green Lantern TV Series Order Makes Big Change Behind The Scenes And Seems To Address Major Fan Question

By Adam Holmes | Cinema Blend
June 25, 2024

In January 2023, newly-minted DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the launch of a new shared continuity called the DC Universe to succeed the DC Extended Universe. The DCU’s Chapter One slate, titled “Gods and Monsters,” is comprised of a variety of upcoming DC movies and upcoming DC TV shows, with the latter category including Lanterns. Some new details have been released over the last several months shedding more light on what we can expect from this Green Lantern streaming show, and the latest update on that front brings not just a big change behind the scenes, but also seemingly answers a major fan question.

First up, HBO has given Lanterns an eight-episode, straight-to-series order. Yes, you read that correctly, HBO. Rather than being released straight to people with a Max subscription as was originally the plan, the show will instead air on the premium cable network first, then be released on the streaming platform...Read more

He’s not wrong about that. How she’s managed to keep the job is baffling.
She is deserving of criticism, but she is also responsible for The Mandalorian. She is the one who okayed Favreau and Filoni bringing that show to Disney+. There are a couple of other shows that also were well received by fans and critics that she greenlit. And while the movies were poor quality, they still made a boatload of money. That is what the higher ups want, so it isn't that baffling to see why she has maintained her position. For now.

Star Wars is a license to print money. “Making a boatload” is the expectation, not any new accomplishment. And the only Star Wars movie not to -Solo - came under her watch.

The hit and miss of Disney+ series has been directly related to the people behind them. Filoni, Favreau, and Tony Gilroy. If it’s not one of those three, it hasn’t been good.

And anyone that has botched the films to the point where they’re not releasing any? Yeah. Fired. Anywhere else anyway.

Black Panther's MCU Future Addressed By Marvel Star: "There’s... A Lot Coming Up"

By Kai Young | Screen Rant
June 27, 2024

Letitia Wright has opened up about her potential future as the Black Panther in the MCU. Wright's Shuri became the titular superhero in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever following T'Challa's death, which was written in response to the tragic passing of original Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was an emotional story for Shuri, the citizens of Wakanda, and MCU audiences, who enjoyed the movie to the tune of almost $860 million at the global box office. Despite this success, however, Marvel Studios hasn't yet confirmed Black Panther 3...

X-Men ’97’s Jennifer Hale Shouted Out Ted Lasso To Us While Praising Jean Grey And Storm’s Friendship

By Adam Holmes | Cinema Blend
June 26, 2024

While it might be too soon to classify X-Men ’97 as one of the best animated TV shows of all time, its stellar critical reception has certainly cemented it as one of the best series that’s been released on the 2024 TV schedule. This is thanks to both big moments, including the tragedy in Genosha and Magneto ripping Wolverine’s adamantium from his skeleton, and small ones, like the friendship between Jean Grey and Storm being highlighted. Jennifer Hale, who voiced both Jean and Madelyne Pryor in X-Men ’97, praised that aspect of the series while speaking with CinemaBlend, and she shouted out the popular Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso in the process...
