Thought about flying after I re-watched the Shazam! intro. I remembered how I would question the reasoning behind actors needing to RUN before taking OFF to fly.

It seemed stupid to me even as a kid. I rarely saw characters run a 100-yard dash in cartoons before lifting off. They just flew in the comics.

Live action? "I'll run five steps and jump over the camera! See? I'm flying!"

They had to get into character by pretending to be an airplane.

AfterShock Comics is venturing into the unknown once more with this week's release of a riveting new sci-fi title, "Where Starships Go to Die," and it's a delirious descent into the deep blue sea to explore a vast graveyard of submerged derelict spacecraft.

Since arriving on the scene in 2016, AfterShock has been one of the fastest growing indie publishers in the world, mostly known for its acclaimed stable of nerve-jangling original horror titles like "Bunny Mask," "Chicken Devil," "Maniac of New York," "I Breathed A Body," and "My Date With Monsters."

But lately the firm's ambitious reach has extended into the science fiction realm with offerings such as "We Live," "Spectro," and "Astronaut Down" with enviable success. It's latest entry is "Where Starships Go to Die(opens in new tab)," and it's Written by Mark Sable ("Miskatonic," "War on Terror: Godkillers") and illustrated by Italian artist Alberto Locatelli ("The Believers"), "Where Starships Go To Die #1," arrives on June 8, 2022 and carries with it the unsettling cinematic tone of films like "Sphere," "Interstellar," "Alien," "The Thing," and "The Abyss."

‘Blood Syndicate,’ the ‘<expletive> child of comics,’ is reborn
By Jevon Phillips | Los Angeles Times
June 10, 2022

“Blood Syndicate” is back, and Milestone Comics’ most hardcore and at times controversial series is pulling no punches in its updated revival of a group of gang-affiliated people who gain various superpowers and form a rough-edged alliance in order to protect their neighborhood from criminals.

"‘Blood Syndicate’ has always been the <expletive> child of comics. People were always afraid to touch that book,” said ChrisCross, artist on “Blood Syndicate” and one of the company’s originators during Milestone’s ’90s heyday.

“People like Static and Icon, but Blood Syndicate is its own thing — you cannot sidestep it. It’s basically like looking at some black hip-hop artists that people try to get away from, but they keep showing up with even better hits. It’s like, ‘I want to deal with this guy, but he’s just so rough. Just the tone of his voice.’”

10 Best Comics Written By Actors
By Charlie Billings | CBR
June 10, 2022

Featured-Image-Keanu-Reeves-Green-Arrow-Samuel-Jackson.jpg

It is no secret that the popularity of comic book movies has been on the rise for the last decade. Four of the top ten highest grossing films of all time are movies based on comic books: Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and The Avengers.

Several actors have become big names in Hollywood due to their roles in these big budget superhero films. Movies and comics often share properties, whether a story is adapted to film, or a film series is continued in the pages of a graphic novel.

For some actors, playing a role in a movie isn't enough, and they have taken the giant leap to create their own works in the comic industry.

DC Comics' Latest Television Series Is Now Streaming
By Jenna Anderson | comicbook
June 10, 2022

The latest live-action series inspired by DC Comics is now available to stream on HBO Max. On Friday, June 10th, the entirety of Naomi became available to stream on the platform, following the first season's initial airing on The CW. This will allow fans to watch or rewatch the journey of Naomi McDuffie (Kaci Walfall), as she begins to discover her extraterrestrial origins. The series is inspired by the character of the same name created by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, and Jamal Campbell.

Naomi centers around its titular character, a teenage girl who goes from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.

"It's been cool," Wallfall told ComicBook.com in a recent interview. "I always still stay respectful to the source material, but I also think, that from the beginning, the creators and everyone has said that the comic book is also just an inspiration. So we're able to build a new story while always staying respectful to the material."

Comics Veteran Liam Sharp Reaches For The Stars With His New Creator-Owned Project
By Rob Salkowitz | Forbes
June 10, 2022

960x0.jpg

Liam Sharp broke into comics in the 1990s when ornate, action-oriented, larger-than-life artwork was all the rage and artists looked to the likes of Frank Frazetta, Barry Windsor-Smith and Moebius for inspiration. As trends have come and gone, Sharp stayed true to his aesthetic guns, and eventually the industry rediscovered him, buoying him to an epic five year run drawing DC’s top titles including Batman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern.

But Sharp is more than the sum of his detailed linework. In the course of his career, he has written several novels, cofounded the digital comics platform Madefire, run several six-figure Kickstarters to publish his art books, launched a class on online learning platform Domestika, and holds forth as one of the industry’s great raconteurs. For his latest project, he’s combining his entrepreneurial, storytelling and scholarly pursuits in an ambitious new science fiction series for Image Comics called Starhenge, with the first issue set to drop in July.

I had the opportunity to talk with Sharp about his new project and his career. Our conversation has been edited for length and clarity.

How Warner Bros. Discovery can rebuild DC movies and challenge Marvel, according to a comics industry insider
By Travis Clark | Insider
June 10, 2022

As Warner Bros. Discovery looks to put its stamp on WarnerMedia assets, the newly formed company has made DC a priority.

The comics and entertainment giant is responsible for some of Warner Bros. Discovery's most prized IP, from Batman and Wonder Woman. But on the big screen, movies based on DC characters — which are released by the Warner Bros. film studio — have been inconsistent both critically and financially.

The Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, David Zaslav, would like to change that.

Variety recently reported that Zaslav wants to revitalize underused characters like Superman. And DC-Based Film Production will be a distinct division within the Warner Bros. Picture Group under new cochairs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy. Walter Hamada, the current president of the DC film division, could be ousted, according to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

The 59-year-old actor and Hayley, 40, split for the first time last September, and they've now decided to call time on their romance once again.

A source shared: "Unfortunately it hasn’t worked out for them.

"They get on really well, and have fantastic chemistry, which is why they decided to quietly give the relationship another try earlier this year.

just seems like to me that they are experimenting .a bit of pepper here, salt there ... but it all comes back to the same ole recipe .. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Aquaman .. they dunno anything else ... they don't expand upon anyone else

- Green Lantern and Black Adam has been their only one try outside the normal realm. ... i cannot even begin to seriously mentioned Shazam as a try.
That was a shot at comedy relief.

- Flash may have already been over-cooked wth WB's Flash TV series. ..
Make Batman and have an interesting enuff spinoff character off on it ... make a Superman and create a spinoff character off of that movie ...

- Yeh it's not always hokey- dorry with Marvels movies, they have had hits and misses (ala Ghost Rider, FF and Elektra) .. but for the most part they
have the most box office sales and movie attractions of any studio in todays' era
For one , it's no secret that Marvel has a vast expanded character universe.... than what DC has to offer.

- And DC not making it happen with such as Justice League and Superman vs Batman disappoints does not help matters. ..

Marvel Is Making A Thunderbolts Movie, And It Already Has Some Key Talent Lined Up

https://www.cinemablend.com/superhe...e-and-it-already-has-some-key-talent-lined-up

It says pick any living anti-hero or villain from a marvel franchise.

As I thought about this I realize that most Marvel movies kill off the bad guy so my team will pull from all movies.

Collin Farrell as Bullseye (Daredevil movie, Affleck version)
Tim Roth as Abomination (Hulk movie, Norton version)
Jon Bernthal as Punisher (Punisher TV show)
Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique (new X-men movies)
Tom Hardy as Venom (new venom movies)
Hannah John Gamen as Ghost (Antman movies)

In my opinion, the only Marvel hits (e.g. smartly conceived and translated from comics to screen) prior to the MCU's start with 2008's Iron Man were Blade (1998), Spider-Man (2002), and Spider-Man 2 (2004).
