Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio Join Marvel Studios' Echo on Disney+
By Sabina Graves | Gizmodo
July 7, 2022

Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio have signed on for Disney+ series Echo. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the two stars of Daredevil will be making their official ensemble debut on the Marvel Studios television series starring Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez.

Most recently D’Onofrio’s Kingpin was revealed as the big bad on Hawkeye and whose betrayal of Maya’s trust over killing her uncle resulted in a shootout that we all knew he’d survive. As per other reports, he’ll be returning with an eye patch and running for mayor.

Matt Murdock on the other hand will be searching for one Jessica Jones as more of the old Marvel show crew gets wrangled into the MCU. Murdock was featured in a quick cameo as Peter Parker’s lawyer in Spider-Man: No Way Home. No word yet on any additional Defenders being brought back in but it’s honestly a matter of time right?

Their shows have been added to the Disney+ platform with a mature audience rating, and the streamer just greenlit its own new season of Daredevil.

i thought i read where Murdock is gonna be donning a new and improved Daredevil battle suit.
If so, i haven't yet seen the new DD suit yet.

Fingers crossed,... i don't want to get the vibe or any images of DD suit having
that old " plastic" looking suit of the Flash -.

I would not get my hopes up for things being as dark and violent as they were with the Netflix series. I think they’ll be quality, but people expecting that level of gritty violence are going to be disappointed.
You are likely correct but it would a shame and actually hypocritical since they added the Netflix series to their programming choices. I am not expecting The Punisher like violence but the rest of the Defenders shows should not be "too violence for Disney+ audiences" after receiving the mature audience rating.

...you know what? I'm the paranoid type. I haven't watched a full episode of any of the former Netflix shows since they moved to Disney+. I wonder if Disney has done some creative editing since the move? That would not sit well with me.

I think I have read something to that effect, about some small changes that someone noticed. I personally don’t have a big issue with it, as long as the overall quality of the show is good. I don’t need violence for the sake of violence to enjoy it.

lol .. i admit that i still so slow to comprehend what's pre-MCU films, .and why certain Marvel films are not considered MCU ?
I'm still working on it ..

Maybe it's certain negotiating property rights and pre and-post dates, even before Disney took over ?

just like you were mentioning awhile back, .Conan the Barbarian originated from Marvel comics. ..there's even a couple of scenes in it that was " taken" from Conan comics
and implemented into the Conan movie.. (per Arnold, not the Jason Samone one)

Technically Conan should have been the first Marvel comic made into live action film into cinema movie theaters ?

So how did Marvel lose the property rights to not be able to claim- retain Conan as tied into their studios productions ?
Ditto with Red Sonja, Xmen, Ghost Rider, ..Morbius ..Venom ... etc. ?

lol .. yeh i'm still working on it all .. .. :D

Conan did not originate with Marvel, Conan was created in the 1930's and those stories were first published in pulp mags, "Weird Tales" iirc, then republished in book form before Marvel comics. Marvel had nothing to do with the Conan movie, whatever scenes that were similar to the comics were similar because they were from the original stories. Marvel only had the rights to publish comics not any movie or TV based on the character. A good parallel would be Edgar Rice Burroughs's Tarzan or John Carter.

Red Sonja was also not a Marvel movie, since Marvel had nothing to do with the movie. While Marvel sort of created this version of Red Sonja, she was loosely based on a mashup of characters from other Robert E Howard stories and don't own the movie rights to her either. To make things more confusing Red Sonja has her own ownership and while Arnold was in the movie, he wasn't Conan, but a "Conan-like" character, since the movie didn't get the rights to include Conan.

While Marvel had the comic book rights they didn't have the movie or TV rights. Marvel lost the rights to publish comics about either for awhile, but eventually reacquired the rights to Conan but not to Red Sonja. This should help make things about as clear as mud...... :p

My Thor: Love and Thunder review is posted in the "Rate the last movie you saw" thread. I will not be talking about the film other than to mention I took my wife and daughter to see it late this afternoon. My better half gave it a 2 out of 10 and said it sucked.

Conversely, my entire family went and everyone had a great time and we all enjoyed it very much. Now I see why many reviews vary greatly in their opinions of the film. It seems quite polarizing.

My wife does not give out grades often. Of the movies she has graded during our 30 years together, this was the lowest I can remember her giving.

My 33-year old daughter is much like her old man, although she is not as big a superhero movie fan as me. Several times during the movie, we caught each other facepalming at the same time. We started laughing about it after a few times.

So the female empowerment and Hemsworth getting his clothes ripped off weren't enough to get your wife to like it?

It sounds like you all share similar tastes in many ways. My family is much the same. I suppose that’s why when one of us liked it, we all did.

Fans hope DC casts Mehwish Hayat as the new Wonder Woman
By Entertainment Desk | The Express Tribune
July 9, 2022

Pakistani star Mehwish Hayat has been winning hearts as her brilliant portrayal of Aisha in Ms. Marvel has been making waves on social media. The actor, who first appeared in the fourth episode of the Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy directorial, has been praised on Twitter for her brave character in the show.

Hayat plays Ms. Marvel aka Kamala Khan's great grandmother in the show alongside Fawad Khan as her husband, Hassan, in the lead role. Fans have been lauding the two as one of the best couples to have graced Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Now, after Aisha, many have rallied for Hayat to be cast as DC's Wonder Woman. It all started when a fan account drew comparisons between Hayat and DC comic's take on Wonder Woman. And many seemed to agree with the tweep.

Marvel Needs to Kill the Fantastic Four to Save Their Legacy
By Francesco Cacciatore | Screen Rant
July 8, 2022

Fantastic-Four-Comics-First-Family.jpg

While Marvel Comics has been trying to make the Fantastic Four commercially successful again for many years, if the company really wants to save the legacy of its first heroes, it should simply kill the team off. The Fantastic Four formula worked for a while, but then became outdated due to the characters' inability to adapt to changing times and to resonate with new generations of readers.

Fantastic Four #1 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby came out in November of 1961 and saved the then-fledgling Marvel Comics from bankruptcy. The series opened the way for Marvel's Silver Age and set the standard that many other iconic characters would follow, from Spider-Man to the Avengers. Kirby and Lee introduced the idea that being a superhero could be a curse or make you a freak — something that didn't happen in the best-selling superhero comic of the time, DC's Justice League. Fantastic Four laid the groundwork for a comic book that gave the psychology of heroism as much importance as the action. However, over the past few years, the team has slowly been shelved, to the point that Marvel canceled their book in 2014, after a direct order from former Chairman Ike Perlmutter due to the conflict with Fox, which owned the movie rights for the characters.

The Gray Man: The Russo Brothers Explain The Movie’s Connection To Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Besides Chris Evans)
By Sarah El-Mahmoud | CinemaBlend
July 8, 2022

Since Chris Evans hung up his Captain America shield in 2019, the actor has been outstretching his acting muscles to new territories beyond the traditional hero and up next he’ll play a villain. The actor is reteaming with Marvel’s Russo Brothers for The Gray Man, which is among July’s Netflix releases. As we await their action movie, the Russos have shared its connection to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The Winter Soldier is of course the first time Joe and Anthony Russo partnered with Marvel Studios, and the movie remains among our top ranking Marvel films. While speaking about The Gray Man, the filmmakers shared how the two movies fit together for them:
We read it years ago while we were making Winter Soldier, and we actually did the first adaptation of it in between takes while we were directing Winter Soldier as a potential movie to direct after we were done with it. But then we got asked to do Civil War and then Avengers, so we put this on the shelf for a few years.

She’s hot. She would be a good Wonder Woman. But why are they already making a new one? DC needs to get it’s crap together. Every 5 years making a new version of their heroes.

Spiderman says Hello...... :muttley:

Folks, it is an article about what FANS want. Warner Bros is 100% committed with Gal Gadot playing the character in the DCEU. Of course, that may change eventually but a different actress will be years down the road.

Thanks, i stand corrected with the Conan Barbarian. i based that too much of my own first appearance experience via Marvel Comics. And only knew Conan
via Marvel Comics.

From what i read and understood Red Sonja did originate from Marvel Comics, ala her first appearance being Conan # 23, but not so much being a Marvel Studio film.
Perhaps that's where Blade became a historical figure with being Marvel's first live adaption from their own original comics ?
