Yeah, he did bring in BP and appeared to change. But now, it looks a lot more like the late 90's than it does the last several years..
It does?
Are we giving up high round draft picks for veterans? Are they drafting players with massive off the field issues? Are they constantly going after veterans with off the field issues and signing them to big deals? Are they refusing to pay good money for assistant coaches? Are they refusing to pay good money for kickers/punters? Are they refusing to draft a quality kicker?
Perhaps that could all happen this offseason, but in the 2007 offseason Jerry's plan was far, far different from his days in the late 90's.
Jerry hired Jimmy. He wasn't going to buy the team and hire a coach and then fire him after the first year when Jimmy totally cleaned house and was virtually starting from scratch.
Bill didn't hire Cam, so therefore he's now bringing in his own guy.
Wayne Huizenga hired Cam and he has to explain firing Cam Cameron after one year. Jerry was considered an idiot for keeping Jimmy around and he stuck with him.
Also, I don't know where people make up these stories about Jimmy and Troy. Jimmy didn't give up on anyone. He just hedged his bets by bringing in Walsh in the supplemental draft to provide competition. Troy won out and Jimmy was still able to get a 1st and 3rd for Walsh.
It's not making up stories. Jimmy said that he wanted Steve Walsh himself. He's claimed that was his biggest mistake in Dallas.
And it's funny how people act like Jerry has always made the personnel decisions, yet Walsh was clearly Jimmy's decision. Hmm...how could that be? Guess what? Jimmy made most of the personnel decisions those first five years.
Jerry is the final decision maker. But for the most part over the years he does get players that the coaches want. Gailey wanted Warren and Ismail and Jerry got them. Campo wanted Galloway, Glover, and Hardy and Jerry got them.
Jimmy wanted Haley, and Jerry got them.
Made some horrendous mistakes? That's an understatement. The Jerry of the last dozen years is remarkably like Snyder, not as bad, but close
Unfortunately for the Skins, Snyder is still stuck in the same path and for the past 5 years, Jerry's changed his ways. Until he goes back to his old ways, then I will put Jerry in the same category as Snyder.
