Commanders... LOL... from Boston Globe

The article states that the Commanders blitzed 17 times. The Patriots ran 76 plays, not counting special teams, according to the box score.

If the article is poorly worded, that doesn't make my math skills poor.

With Brady under center, the Patriots attempted 33 passes, including three plays in which pass interference was called. The Commanders brought extra rushers 17 times, going 14 times with five rushers and once each with six, seven, and eight rushers.

Not poorly worded. Just poorly understood.

Try again.

"do you guys just not get that it's only pre-season and this means nothing."-Commanders fan.

Phoenix-Talon, hate to sidetrack the thread, but I saw "Invincible" this weekend. I was suprised at how good the movie really was. Hell, I almost cried a few times. No part was more inspiring than when Papale was blasted by (the jersey number said 54 so I'm assuming Randy White) on his first kick-off cover against the Cowboys. That was truly great

I think maybe the point that's getting lost here, in MossBurner's inability to manage a 4th grade math problem, is that the Skins can't get pressure. Not even with the blitzs. All that talk of Archuletta being a phenomenal blitzer, and Carter helping their front four to the point where they no longer had to blitz, is just a thing of dreams. It's not for lack of trying, or implementing "vanilla" schemes, they just can't do it. They've been blitzing everyone, without success.

If Greg Williams defense takes a similar fall to where they were last year, it could be all for them. It's looking like the Skins may have peaked last year. ;) OTOH, our team just keeps getting better.

Especially for skins fans (MossBurner)!:laugh2:

They've been whining all preseason about teams running a reverse and a flea flicker, yet they've been constantly blitzing the crap out of teams. I know that's Williams style of defense but if you're so "vanilla" on offense maybe you should be changing up on defense too. Other teams are just learning how to attack his defense better.
As they say, live by the blitz, die by the blitz.:skins:
Very good point.

Several of the Patriots' biggest offensive plays by the first team came against the blitz, as Corey Dillon's 39-yard screen pass was against a six-man rush
One of the things I have pleased with is how well the Boys are running the screen this preseason. I think having MBIII in on 3rd down will help slow the pass rush.

I guess MossBurner doesn't know the HALF of it!

(Thank you, I'll be here all night.)

Uh guys

I don't think anyone noticed, but the scheme that was run on the blitz was this

Blitz whoever you are going to blitz, but rather then play man to man in the secondary as is normally done while blitzing, the secondary was in a zone

The middle was wide open for Ben Watson the whole night, wide freakin open, and a QB as good as Brady tore that apart

What does it mean? I dunno, usually coaches do something called an "adjustment" A regular season adjustment probably would have put a LB (Marshall) on Watson when we blitzed, rather then sitting in a zone and leaving the holes wide open

Brady was lights out good the other night, kudos to him and his offense for taking it to our D

Now, now kids, play nice in the sandbox.

And in what sick, twisted world have I become the voice of reason?

Hey look, the Four Horsemen...

So you're saying Williams just decided not to do anything, since after all, it was only a preseason game?

I don't buy it. You shouldn't get beat 41-0 if you're running 1 play over and over again with Korean midgets. Right now, playing teams straight up, the Commanders are a bad team. May not stay that way, but right now, they are what they are. Really bad. They are incapable of manning up a team and beating them one on one. You better hope those adjustments start coming fast and furious once the regular season starts.

That actually is a good point SkinsHokieFan. Playing zone with hardly anyone in the middle wasn't a smart choice in retrospect.

The question that I have is can the Skins scale back their blitzing and still maintain a rush? If not, I could forsee TE's and a lot of catches over the middle on your defense.

Also, I know you guys like Carlos Rogers, but wouldn't Demarcus Ware or Shawne Merriman look good in a Skins uniform right about now?

No kudos for the Patriots D?

Anyone consider that the washington D blitzed while playing zone in the secondary instead of man on man because their best person in the secondary was not playing. Maybe their other members in the secondary are just not good enough to play man to man.

Reading some of the articles on the Skins today, neither did Gibbs..sorta. He gave the Pats props for being a good team, but then contradicted himself by saying the Pats were so successful because of the Skins constant screwups.

And I read that in at least 3 articles.
