Reading some of the articles on the Skins today, neither did Gibbs..sorta. He gave the Pats props for being a good team, but then contradicted himself by saying the Pats were so successful because of the Skins constant screwups.

And I read that in at least 3 articles.
Yeah, but was he talking about the personnel moves, the players, or the way plays were executed?

A quote from WP

From a Commanders standpoint, the first thing for us to do is give a thumbs-up to New England," Gibbs said Saturday. "I think they have a heck of a football team and played very well tonight and you have to give them a lot of credit and so we do that."

But yesterday, Gibbs suggested that the Patriots' success was more attributable to the Commanders' breakdowns.

"Offensively, we were not productive. We kind of felt like it was more us and our operation there than necessarily what New England was doing," Gibbs said.

"When you look at that film the other night, there were things we should have gotten done that would have helped us have a chance to be in that game and we didn't get it done," he said. "I don't think they did anything outlandish. They were pretty straight up. They played extremely well. Their quarterback played great, and so I look at it as that's where we should be."

That's Gibbs for ya. He always takes the stand that they didn't get beat... but they instead beat themselves. Or more precisely, the refs beat them... that's his usual gig. He always blames something other than the other team just being better.

Skins fans (some of them) are truly saying that they think Gibbs and company decided that they want the lull the rest of the NFL to sleep with a false sense of security about their team and made the team play poorly on purpose. Seriously, I've read that several times from several different posters as a couple of Commanders boards. And the other posters, instead of telling them that they need professional help, have said they had wondered that themselves. :laugh2:

They say there's no way a team as good as they were last year (lol) adds all the great peices they did this offseason (lol) and ends up as bad as they look now. So it must be that the coaches are throwing the games... to the tune of 41-0 no less. :laugh1:

Ah, you gotta love skins fans. They really thought they were something special last year, instead of the reality of the situation: That they had very few injuries, a lot of lucky breaks, caught some bad teams and some decent one's sleeping, and beat a crappy Tampa team in the playoffs. It's almost like they forgot how much they truly struggled last year, or just completely ignore it.

They aren't 41-0 bad, I'll say that... but they have a lot of issues that aren't going to go away when the games start to count. The denial that you can see on message boards is truly amazing!

I guess MossBurner doesn't know the HALF of it!

(Thank you, I'll be here all night.)

:laugh1: It's so funny how skins fans come here and get undeniably fried yet Boys fans can go over to es, camp out like it's Krzyzewskiville, and laugh all day. :laugh2:

This should be very alarming to Skins fans, particularly in light of the fact that they are running a very basic offense in preseason. If they can't execute simple plays in practice games, how can they hope to master the complexities of the full offense when the games count?

I've only seen one Skins game in preseason - the Cincinnati game - and saw a lot of sloppy execution. In particular, the interception that led to CP's injury was due to someone's missed assignment (Lloyd or Brunell). These are the kinds of mistakes that caused them so many problems through the first 2/3 of last season.

The deception argument falls appart in light of the lack of execution. Who cares if the defense doesn't know what's coming when you can't execute the play?

It's looking like another slow start for the Skins.
