One guy on ES posted that he was happy the Skins got pounded. ***? I know it's preseason, but I'm never happy when my team plays so poorly we lose 41-0. What a bunch of whacky people over there.

They call that whistlin' past the graveyard...

I'm reminded of the Kevin Bacon character in Animal House, hollering "remain calm!!! All is well!!!" as the crowds trample him into the pavement...

I'm lovin' it, I remember they kept shoving that in our face not too long ago

I'm sincerely beginning to belive that Campbell is going to prove to be a mistake...

That's good stuff..on both accounts.

Saw this quoting a Commanders fan on another board:

Just something I wanted to throw out here to see what you all think. Someone mentioned to me a few years back that the Commanders had had a curse put on them by a native american group protesting the use of the team name "Commander". It was first mentioned after the group's first legal battle over the issue which was I believe around 1993 (after coach Gibbs first go around.) I think we all know how the team performed from '93 til now with the exclusion ** making the playoffs in '99. Now this same group has filed another suit over the same thing but from a different angle. I'm wondering if another curse was used. I don't know if I can believe this or not but how do we explain a team with all this talent, with the amazing coaching staff we have, how can they be dominated over as badly as they were tonight?
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I've been of that belief for a long time, anyone who reminds me of Quincy Carter is bound to fail

Tony Romo, preseason stats:

47 attempts, 34 completions, 72.3%... 484 yards, 10.3 yards per attempt... 3 TDs, 1 int... 117.7 quarterback rating...

Jason Campbell, preseason stats:

44 attempts, 23 completions, 52.3%... 258 yards, 5.9 yards per attempt... 0 TDs, 2 ints... 51.1 quarterback rating...

'Nuff said, I think...

Yeah, it was pretty much the same story last year, too... but Campbell was a rookie then... he's not any more...

If I were the Commanders, three things would really bother me...

a) While I think the defense will be alright (although people underestimate how huge the Springs injury is), the Commanders 1st team offense hasn't scored yet. They are in new, complicated offense. Some teams are able to "turn on the switch" when the games matter, but these are usually teams that are well versed and confidant in what they do based on previous history. The Commanders don't have that to fall back on.

b) Most of their 2nd stringers couldn't make other NFL teams.

c) Gibbs called out the team this weekend to turn up the intensity, and they didn't respond to him.

Not even a little. A 41-0 arse-whupping after your coach says in the media that your team is not trying basically proves beyond doubt that indeed, the team is not trying.

Not writing anyone off anything yet over a pre-season game, but when I heard the score this also stuck out to me right away.

what if they did respond - and this is the net result? that would be too funny.

you can't bag a tiger with a cap pistol.
