No idea.. I kept looking, but I didn't see any other snippets. Weird seeing as he's quoted in multiple articles about it.

In that video, anyway, the comments about Melton were more interesting than the spin in the Claiborne comment. ESPN must not have been prepared to write anything in Melton yet though.

What did he say about Melton (can't listen at work)?

What did he say about Melton (can't listen at work)?

They asked how he looked, Marinelli said 'solid.' They asked if he looked more than solid previously, and he said 'oh, yeah, he was a pro bowl player at one point.' They asked him to clarify that a bit, and he said he'd be better able to measure how far he's come after the first game. The exchange was also one of those that was just a little bit uncomfortable.

Considering Melton has not been able to play due to the groin I don't see how Marinelli could say any thing different. Rod is not going to blow smoke up peoples back side and truth is we won't know where Melton is until he gets out there in live action

Regardless of what's being said by anyone, Morris simply needs to put on his big boy pants and suck it up. Everyone was on his bandwagon when they thought he'd be "the 2nd coming of Deion." Now that reality has set in, everyone's on his case. I doubt he planned it this way, it just happened. Realistically, it's not too late.

This year should be a pivotal one for him and his career. The challenge for him lies ahead -- for his sake and the team's, let's just hope he'll make the best of it. I'll; be pulling for him. And you? Honestly, I believe that was Marinelli's message. It was an honest and truthful one, that;s for sure. Time for Mo to produce like he has in the past at Bama. Good luck with that.

I'm dredding his part of the game on Sunday.

Claiborne is one of the most physically gifted corners that I have ever seen.

If this guy busts then his db coach should lose his job as well.

No way should he have evolved into the player he has turned into.

I dont know..At 5'11 180 and change he never looked like a physical specimen to me. Never looked fast, never seemed to like contact. I see his potential as a cover guy but I still have no clue what anyone saw on tape to take him 6th overall.

His athletic numbers say other wise. He is not close to being as athletic as Pat Peterson.

Yeah, that's obviously all it was, but it was the kind of awkward pause that made you think 'oh, there's going to be a story or two about this tomorrow.'

I think that is just that is how he operates. He is not going to sing praises of players for no reason. It appears to me he wants to challenge his guys. Last year a player would get a sack and Rod talked about that player needing to rip at the ball as well. He does not just want the sack he wants you to take the ball away

Neither of them love the physical part of the game.

Don't think that is saying much....there is a reason teams are drafting in the top 10. And somehow someone like Seattle is able to find BALLERS in the middle rounds!

Listen...I am not trying to put this all on Jerry. Jerry has people that are well paid that sold him on this guy. Just wondering who they were and what role they do/did have in the organization. The #6 overall pick is a BIG deal. Like I said...forget that he does not appear to be a HOFer or Pro Bowler....I am just waiting for him to look like a 3rd rounder!!!
Thats faulty reasoning. 2 years ago were mad that the cowboys lost to the sorry seattle seahawks...saying that to say, Seattle has not been some long time juggernaut. Also It wasnt just bad teams that had claiborne rated high. It was every scout.. He was one of the highest rated cbs to come out in years. He was highly praised for his athleticism , fundamentals, as well as fb iq. Many saidhe would be better than Peterson. Hind sight is 20/20. If we had Pete instead of Jason, this would not be a discussioon.

I really think that the whole MoMo "best prospect since Deion" debacle is what got Ciskowski reassigned within the organization. What an absolute disaster of a scouting decision.

Claiborne went where most felt he would go in terms of 1st rd picks.

This. You can legitimately argue that the Cowboys shouldn't have traded up for Claiborne, however, you can't argue that Claiborne wasn't the overwhelming consensus #1 CB in the draft that season.

The "sorry" Seahwaks? That is our arrogance or East Coast bias. Not sure if you follow Shango....who is a passionate Cowboy fan. But he had the infamous rant AFTER the game about how he WARNED Cowboy Nation about how the Seahawks get down. I was unaware and was not paying attention to what the Seahawks were building...and they are starting to see the fruits of their labor. It reminds me of the early 90s Cowboys...and how MANY were caught off guard..because they were not paying attention to what Jimmy was building.

Again....solid organizations with an idenity and consistent winning philosophy can recover from missing with the #6 overall pick. Unfortunatley...because we are an organization made up of various scattered parts...where the GM once hired the offensive coordinator...THEN hired the head coach....we don't recover well from this big of a miss. Look at the Seahawks...they have given up a #1 to New England for Deion Branch...they gave up a #1 (and I think other picks) for Sidney Rice.....and they gave up a #1 and multiple other picks for Percy Harvin. Harvin barley played for them last year...did that stop them from winning the Super Bowl? Not sure Sidney Rice EVER did antyhing for them. And Deion Branch was a marginal contributor for them. Yet that program still grew and is now thriving. While we are licking our wounds for the Roy Williamns trade, the miss on Felix Jones....and what now looks like the miss on Claiborne. You have to go back to what I posted earlier to understand my frustration. ALL organizations miss at times...the good ones can recover...unfortunatley...that is not who we are!

I remember how relieved I was about the trade up when I heard that we would have spent our second rounder on some scrub named Wagner

true this was not just the Cowboys it was the talk around the league leading up to the draft. Dallas had released Newman so they were in need and based on projections of the draft Claiborne graded out the highest. Looking back at that draft I was in the DeCastro group of fans. Kirkpatrick and Barron were 2 other DB that I liked however Barron would have forced us to move up since he ended up being the pick after Claiborne.

Claiborne and Carter should have been 2 impact defenders for us,,, where did it all go wrong?

It is simple. They both need to take the yeller brick road and go ax the Wizard for a heart. Romo half a heart. Lee half a heart. Dez half a heart. Claiborne and Carter do not.

Mayock's take: "One of the main reasons I think the Dallas Cowboys haven't been to a Super Bowl in some time is because of their secondary. Morris Claiborne is a special corner. He's got the best ball skills of any corner coming out in the last several years. This is a rare athlete."

The winner of the Jim Thorpe Award (given to the country's top defensive back) opted to forgo his senior year and enter the draft. He is huge for the position and has great speed. A very explosive athlete, Claiborne should easily press for a starting role wherever he lands. He covered top-tier talent in the SEC and is as polished as corners come. He has first-round value and shouldn't last long in the draft.
Analysis
Strengths
Claiborne is an aggressive cover man who likes to use his tall frame and long arms to get in receivers' faces, shock them at the line of scrimmage and disrupt their timing. When he punches, he makes his presence felt. He can run with his back to the ball at the receiver's hip using a press/bail technique and looks natural running with his man in-phase while still keeping an eye on the ball. Claiborne is such a gifted athlete with uncommon body control that he runs with his man fluidly up and down the field and still be able to break off at any time and get involved in plays coming across him. As a zone defender, he is simply an explosive athlete with length and can keep plays in front of him and react quick enough to meet the man at the ball. He is physical in run support and will have no problem coming up to tackle from the edge.
Weaknesses
Claiborne can sometimes be lazy with his technique. Working in off-man coverage, he has a tendency to get his pad level high in his backpedal, diluting the explosiveness that makes him so effective out of his breaks.

Great speed? Gifted athlete? Physical in run support? Is this the twilight zone?
