To be fair, we haven't had a chance to see him with the 1s for any extended period of time, which is a good thing but he may surprise some people. I doubt it but he could. Also, if you look around the league, most Back ups are trash. I would like a vet player in this role but they also cost money and the team is betting Dak doesn't get hurt.

Seeing Chiefs' backup QB Matt Moore subbing and delivering points in place of injured Mahomes, he's proving he can be a very reliable backup QB

If Dak Prescott himself were to be injured, and had to sidelined for just a few games (per concussion, bad ankle sprain, hamstring or bruised shoulder) and we needed backup Cooper Rush to sub and manage 3 games for wins – how confident are you in Cooper Rush that he could deliver us enough few wins to help us stay in playoff race, until Dak returns ?
think 2015 !!!!

Rush would be monumentally bad in a real game. Imagine if DCs actually worked on him. I doubt he would get more than 2 starts before Dallas had to go elsewhere.

If Garrett did like he did when Romo got hurt in 2015- shutting the offense down and hoping Romo would return and win 9 games in a row upon his return, Rush would struggle.
Garrett showed how lost he was as a head coach then, too.
But if Rush were allowed to run the offense as if he were the franchise quarterback of the Cowboys, who knows?
Garrett is counting on Dak to make him look worthy of being a head coach- just as he did with Romo.
If Dak got hurt he would probably cry.

Dallas or jones boys are gambling that dak wont get hurt, they felt like they wasted money on having orton, then the 1 time
they played him he lost. Of course garrett was calling plays and making game plan at that time, but they put all the blame
on orton. After that they decided to go cheap and just have guy like rush, worthless, but cheap.

what's our options? we want better back up...but where? you either draft one....and get them ready...or pay some dollars to keep one like Bridgewater...… there aren't that many quality back ups in this league

Moore is garbage, always has been. He failed everywhere as a starter and a backup....any success with KC is directly attributable to Coach Reid.

However, No, I have no confidence in Cooper Rush, but the Cowboys haven't worried about backup QBs in years.

I think he would be fine, although a mid-game substitution may not go well since the guy hasn’t played in so long. Once he gets some practice reps and settles in, he would be fine. The offensive line is the linchpin, not the QB.

That's three losses right there. We would stubbornly run the ball the first two downs every time. It would be a nightmare. We couldn't beat the Jets with Dak, imagine with Rush.. we would struggle with worse teams.

I think the usage and experience of past failed vet QBs ala Kyle Orton, Brandon Weeden, Matt Cassel and the surprise emergence of young rookie Dak Prescott help change the course that detoured them away from experienced backup vets and more towards developing young backup QBs.
Nick Foles was supposedly available when Romo was back-hurt vs Seattle and eventually Kellen Moore went down with a broken fibula. But Cowboys claimed they had no interest in Foles.

I still contend that Cowboys wanted 5th rd. draftee Mike White to be the idea backup to Dak, instead of Cooper Rush. Someone with more idea physical tools and power arm strength and player intangibles.
and as we can see with the key big injuries such as Jax’s Nick Foles and Pat Mahomes, these kind of injuries can devastate your team’s chances of a playoff run.. if you don’t have a key dependable backup to hold the water until the big franchise starter goes down for a few games.

If it happens to Dak, and we are force to rely on Rush's game, we will have to rely on completely rely on perfect pass protection, zeke monster-ballin’ and a quick, short pass game and Cooper/Gallup run -after-catch skills to help best manage it , and pray its not the likes of Pats ,Vikes, Rams or Philly that we have to combat.

Next year’s draft I’ve the feeling that we will pursue another 5th round draftee QB – young and impressive physical tools that can zip & power the ball into tight passing lanes without having to loft passes
and be limited to short game to compete with Cooper Rush.

We like our guys lol. Cooper would ball out and take us to the SB baby. Why? Because he is on our team. Now, if he were the back up in Philly we would all be wishing he would get in lol.

I hope we never find out....

Right bow he's cheap and knows the playbook well enough to hopefully close out the game and get Dak back the next game

Hard to evaluate guys who don't get time with the starters. Even Dak fans know he sucked without Cooper. Rush could be ok with all the talent around him and a game plan taylored to his strengths.

Moore was out of football last year and the Chiefs only signed him after Chad Henne was injured.
