There is a strong theory that the way to win a championship is one of two approaches to the QB position

You either need.

1. An Uber elite QB. Like a prime Mahomes or Prime Brady/Manning/Brees level QB. Those guys you can pay and still win.

Or you need

2. A good QB that’s still on a rookie deal or that you got on a cheap deal because they are coming off injury or something like that.

The more I see. The more I believe in that theory.

Unless you have an ELITE top 1-2 QB in the league. You just don’t pay them. You move on and draft another.

Yeah you’re gonna have some down seasons if you draft a total bust. But it’s better than being in what’s essentially NFL purgatory. Where the team is good enough to have seasons with a good regular season record but never good enough to truly compete for a championship.

Do you honestly believe Dak wouldn’t have won the two games Rush did?

This year, you’re right. Dak wasn’t playing any better than Rush is now, but we have a career body of work that says Dak is the superior quarterback. Now, is he worth $60 million a year? Probably not. But he’s better than Rush.
Not really. Dak no longer has the athleticism to justify that position. Now that teams no longer feel threatened by Dak as a runner, he is not gifted enough as a passer to make up the difference.

Yep. Dak's body is done. Just like Zeke did not get younger and better (as those of us that know football tried to warn), the same is true of Dak. He won't get younger, his legs won't magically return so he can scramble, and his arm won't get strong again.

I don't even think Dak finishes this ridiculous contract. He'll have to retire like Romo did because he keeps getting injured.

Purdy will be a great test case for a team to tell a decent QB, who isn’t remotely close to being elite, who also wants to reset the FA market (not sure if Purdy is in this mindset) to go pound sand. Remember that Purdy was in the MVP conversation last year, along with Dak, and his agent can make similar arguments to those Dak’s agent made. Better even, given Purdy’s playoff success. If Purdy wants to reset the market, I’d love SF to kick him to the curb. It might stop the lunacy.

I agree 100%. I believe the Niners would be very wise to not re-sign Purdy. Unless Purdy is willing to sign a smaller deal. If he wants to be paid top dollar they need to tell him to pound sand.

The problem is and you elude to it. A lot of GMs and teams are afraid or going onto the QB carousel and having down years. Which makes sense if you’re a GM fighting for your job.

But it’s to the long term detriment of the team.

That’s what kinda sucks about the cowboys. We have a GM who can do whatever he wants and yet he isn’t willing to roll the dice and gamble for something better at the QB spot. Even though he has ultimate job security.

I loathe the Niners and hope they pay Purdy everything his agent asks for and more.

Purdy’s agent is not dealing with Jerry Jones. Purdy will get a lucrative contract. It will be in the Jalen Hurts neighborhood. $50 to $52 million AAV. Been to a Super Bowl with a good roster. Didn’t win it.

Dak’s contract will be a lighthouse to the other 31 NFL ownership groups. A warning that can be seen a long way off. Don’t get your ship near it.

today I noticed he has a slow arm, he almost looks like a baseball pitcher, its why his balls get batted
As I have noted many times in the past, Cooper Rush throws the slowest passes I have even seen from a NFL quarterback. For whatever reason, his throwing motion generates low velocity throws.

Not for nothing but I actually expected Drew Lock to perform yesterday . He looked horrible ill prepared unable to lead . And for a guy who complained and cried last week about targets Nabers sure drops passes .

Flip side for the most part the roof is not caving in when Rush has to play other then the occasional metal pieces the size of a piano falling down .

Rush is 2-2 through 4 starts this year.

Dak was 2-2 through 4 starts this year also.

The difference?

The combined record of the teams Dak faced is 17-29 while Rush's is 25-22.

Dak played 1 team that currently has a winning record through 4 starts this year. Rush has only played 1 team that doesn't have a winning record through 4 starts this year.
And then look at the defensive efficiency over that span. Zimmer needed some time to get things going. Still I do think Rush makes faster decisions and that makes the OL look a lot better.

I think we when he returns he will keep getting sacked in the backfield until he gets hurt.

For context:

He went 1-0 a few seasons ago.
He went 4-1 a couple seasons ago.

He now has gone 2-2 in a season that Dak went 3-5. There’s no reason to keep paying Dak every season if Cooper Rush can win games. Why are we paying one player 60 million when the other is serviceable enough to win games when Dak is injured? I don’t get it!
Where was your post when he lost his first two starts and fell to 5-3?

Since he’s a free agent in 103 days we’ll all find out what the NFL thinks he’s worth. If he signs with the Cowboys before becoming a free agent it means he knows what he’s worth. He will not be signing for more than $4 million AAV, if he even remains in the NFL.
The Cowboys need an influx of new QBs from starter to backup.

Yep, and the Cowboys lacking Owner paid an above average QB elite QB money and screwed the team for the next 4 years wasting some guys prime with mediocrity.
