This is exactly what the Cowboys should be thinking. I don't care how much of an asset Moore is in the film room, we better not pick him over Rush.

Especially when they could keep Moore as a coach or a PS member if he's valuable in that respect.

We say this every year about a no-name QB on the roster. Romo is the only one we were ever right about.

Romo is why unplanned gems need to be stashed for a year or two. Indianapolis I suspect is watching every game to see what's out there.

Moore is just a punt or turnover waiting to happen.
The fans feel that and it looks like the players sense that as well. When Coop enters the game, there is a noticeable increase in energy from the players, whether they will say it out loud or not, them seem to believe in Coop more than Kellen.

I'll say it again. If the Dallas Cowboys make Kellen Moore the backup QB it will prove to all of us that there really hasn't been HUGE changes in the philosophy of the organization.
One doesn't have anything to do with the other.

The team trusts Moore more right now because of his knowledge and experience.

How you and I feel about it makes no difference.

The coaches and the execs have to talk about Rush in a conservative manner. If they talk him up now and Rush regresses they will look pretty dumb. I know many around here think they are anyway. But that's another discussion.

But if they tamp down expectations and Rush continues to flourish, he will get the backup job. Linehan and Garrett can't ignore what is staring at them in the face. This is similar to when the coaches kept insisting that Romo would reclaim the starting job last year, even when Dak was tearing it up early in the regular season. Eventually, reality set in and Dak remained the starter. Same thing may happen with Rush.

They don't need to commit to a backup now. Just keep quiet and let the rest of the season play out. That's what they are doing.

The backup QB thing to me is very simple. It's plain to see if Dak goes down for any meaningful amount of time and Moore or McCown was the starter, it would be 2015 all over again and we'd lose tons of games. Rush is playing not like Dak did last year in preseason, but still well enough to look like he actually has a future playing the position in the NFL.

I keep Rush as my #2 QB and just deal with it. If Dak stays healthy he is just learning, and if Dak goes down I'd rather win or lose with a rookie with potential than definitely lose with a guy who is completely awful just because he's a veteran.

It's also about staying on message. Regardless of what the true story is (e.g., Rush getting 2nd team reps in practice now) -- they're going to unify as a front and give a bunch of coachspeak answers in order to control the media narrative.

We all know what Cowboys beat reporters love to do - why give them red meat?

It has everything to do with it. I can name player after player they've "trusted" over th past 21 years the same way you think they trust Moore. They turned a page with the Dak-Romo decision, and because it payed off you'd think they would go with common sense more often.

You're right though about them not caring how you feel. But me, come on, they care ;)

This.

The question isn't whether Rush can be the backup QB; Moore is the backup. The question is whether Rush is worthy of a roster spot at the expense of another promising young player at another position. For the record, I think he is.

Lets all be honest here. Rush is now the #2 but has to keep playing well to keep it. If he falters in either of the remaining games, Moore could be given the spot back.

How did you come to conclusion Rush only played vs 3s and 4s, but none of the 2s?

As for Moore, he has only played in 3 regular season games, and only 1 game he won, against Washingtons backup defense and for the most part, banged up secondary. If you call that success in this league. Rush I am pretty sure can do that.
Didn't he lose that game? Last game of 2015 right?
