Poor comparisons. Both Mahomes and Wentz played against their opponents' 1s and 2s. Rush performed very well, but against 3s and 4s, and against defense's that weren't as set on stopping him as they were in evaluating their own talent.

Not saying they weren't trying to stop him, of course. Just saying that he needs to have some success against a higher level of competition before we hand him the backup spot.

As bad as KM has looked this preseason, he has still enjoyed some success in this league, against a starting level defense. If Dak goes down for 1-2 games, I'd still trust Moore to run this offense before I'd trust CR. Give him a year's experience - even on the PS - and I'd most likely choose Rush.

He also played with 3s and 4s. Put him with 1s and 2s and he may look even better. The fact is that he commands the offense, makes the throws, and gets results. He has an NFL arm and his passes are accurate. He has the ability to grow into a very good QB. Moore is what he is, a poor excuse for an NFL QB. If Dak goes down, Moore will do nothing but lose games. Rush at least has shown an ability to keep the offense moving and will do nothing but improve. Rush is the guy you keep for the future.

I'll say it again. If the Dallas Cowboys make Kellen Moore the backup QB it will prove to all of us that there really hasn't been HUGE changes in the philosophy of the organization. It will also signify that competition doesn't mean much and that when JG talks about it, it's more coach talk and BS than anything. Cooper Rush has outplayed KM by a mile. It's not even close. In fact KM has looked so bad that I feel embarrassed for him. Was he this bad before the injury, or did he completely lose it? The bottom line is I would hope that the DC FO has grown enough over the last twenty one years and learned from mistakes like this. I guess we will find out...

We will keep both. The final roster spot is not as valuable as people like to think. We kept Romo active when he was injured last season. I suspect we will carry 3 QBs.

Besides, Rush isn't just a pet cat with some arm strength or something. He's actually got a lot of potential

this is nonsense and shows a clear ignorance to the level of QB talent in the league. We have had only 1 this close in talent in this past decade and Rush has been much better than Tanney.

ARe you going for the board record for bad takes? You seem to be on a roll for them.
I don't disagree that they should keep Rush over Moore. I'm saying I don't think they will because Linehan loves Moore's smarts.

In a real game, there's a real gameplan, and it takes experience to execute a gameplan. Rush is likely not ready for that.

However, as we know now, this offensive line and running game can take a lot of pressure off a quarterback.

With a young healthy starting QB, they don't want to keep three quarterbacks, but they may have to if they like Rush as much as we do.

pretty easy way to settle this

each QB gets 3 drives with 1st team offense vs. 1st deam defense (full out mid-season packages, no preseason vanilla horse crap)

backup QB position goes to winner

Moore is the backup. That isn't changing for better or for worse.

It's all going to come down to Rush's knowledge of the playbook IMO. I think he will get extended reps in the next game and they'll probably try to overwhelm him by throwing the whole PB at him. If he handles it and performs, I think he can bounce Moore. If he struggles at all or looks confused, Moore will hold onto the job.

Cowboys growing concerned about Kellen Moore as No. 2 quarterback

Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports, citing an unnamed source, that Moore “will be the subject of conversation at personnel meetings this week” after another subpar preseason performance.

Moore completed less than 50 percent of his passes (10 for 21) for 131 yards and a quarterback rating of 67.8. He also lost a fumble that was returned for a touchdown.

Officially, the Cowboys continue to say all (or at least most) of the right things about the player who could be the wrong man both to replace Prescott if injured and to push Prescott to be as good as he can be.

“He’s a very smart player, makes good decisions,” coach Jason Garrett said, per Hill. “I thought he threw the ball to the right guy a lot. I think the biggest thing if you look at his drives is we got behind the chains a little bit, had some holding penalties and you’re looking at some tough down-and-distances. And it’s hard to overcome that. But I thoguht he handled that stuff for the most part pretty well and just kept trying to execute ball plays. He will continue to do that.”
If the Cowboys don’t look outside the organization for a backup to Prescott, they could decide to make Cooper Rush the No. 2 option.

“I’m just glad to see Rush taking advantage of his opportunities out there,” owner Jerry Jones said, via Hill. “Wouldn’t want to get ahead of ourselves in any way here. And the other thing is that we still have a lot of confidence in [Moore], his ability to be able to get in there when we would call on him with the personnel around him and get the ball in the right places. Make no mistake about it, that Rush, it just gets slow when he gets out there. That’s a compliment.”

Moore is more likely to clear waivers than Rush.
What's weird to me is that Moore's problems seem opposite of that game where he played in the regular season and had a bunch of yards but also a bunch of turnovers.

He was making quick decisions back then. Now he apoears to have developed the Yips as they say in golf.

The issue for Rush is we need to see him with the #2's and some #1's versus 2's and 1's. He really hasn't gotten that opportunity yet and if I were him that is what would concern me because it shows the coaches are more in Moore's corner.

However, they gave Moore a lot of playing time again and perhaps the coaches were looking for Moore to prove himself when he obviously did not.

At this point, I think it's more about how well Dak understands the playbook and reading defenses than it is about Rush. The only value that Moore brings to the team is his understanding of the playbook and being a veteran who knows the ins-and-outs of the NFL. That's where Mark Sanchez's value was to the team last year as he was well coached thru high school and college, knew the mechanics and understood what defenses were trying to do. I've never been high on Romo's mechanics, but his value was understanding defenses and what they were doing and going to do to adjust to Dak.

Otherwise, Moore serves no value to the team because if Dak does get hurt...we're screwed with Moore at QB. We're likely screwed with Rush at QB, too. But, Rush has potential and we could use that potential in the future as a backup QB or if we get lucky...a QB that we trade away for a high draft pick.

So if we are comfortable with Dak's understanding of the playbook and being able to diagnose defenses and what they are trying to do, I see no reason to keep Moore unless they put Rush with some 1's and 2's against 1's and 2's and he plays worse than Moore does.

If they really are commited to keeping Moore and Rush is playing this well they have to keep three qb's. Hard to do with some of the other roster decisions, would they showcase him as much as possible over the last two games and trade him?

Or keep and groom him. He looked as fantastic if not better last night as he did the first game. Reminds me of Dak in the preseason last year.
