Bernadeau i think is going to be the backup. And Dallas draft Martin at 16. Bernadeau can backup all 3 spots inside. Really like Harrison from Florida and his ability to back up all 3 interior spots too.

I'm a Notre Dame fan, so I'd be all for it. :)

Call me crazy but I think there are better guards in the draft than Martin. I think Martin is valued as a mid-first round pick because of his ability to play RT, but I don't think he will be able to be a legitimate RT. If we really wanted to draft OG in the 1st (which I don't really agree with but wouldn't be opposed to), I'd rather trade back to the end of the 1st and get Sua'Filo and pick up another 3rd rounder.

Good post.

While I do like Martin a lot, I'm with you in that Su'a-filo might be the better player if you just look at guard. I'm not sure about that though. Martin is a really good player, IMO and perhaps we could move him to RT when Free's contract runs out.

Still, in this deep draft, if we go guard in the first, I like the thought of moving back several spots, picking up another 2nd or 3rd rounder and taking Su'a-filo instead of Martin at #16. Martin is good enough though that I wouldn't mind taking him at 16 with the idea of moving him to RT one day, if that's what the team wants to do.

Reading that something was done with Bern's contract as well. Wonder if he took a paycut or we extended him and converted salary to bonus (he was scheduled to make 2.75mill). Extending him at a low cost wouldn't be terrible given that he's a good backup option at C-G (particularly with Costa gone).

I saw that too on BleacherRepprt but when I clicked the link it brought me to a dead end.

You know he didnt take a paycut.

I guess that's what the link was a dead end. It alluded to the contract negotiations.

In all seriousness, Bern has lots of value in this league. Capable of starting on most teams and a top-notch backup at every interior position.

I know people have difficulty rationalizing the contracts of their favorite team's players, but most teams would be happy with a guy like Bern.

I agree. Zack Martin is being overrated. Sua'Filo is probably as good at OG. Yankey is good also, but might best in a man blocking scheme. I think Marcus Martin can start at Guard or Center day 1 in the NFL. There are 3 college LTs that appear to have very high upsides at Guard but might need a little time to be ready.

At OT, Morgan Moses has way more upside than Zack Martin, IMO.

Having OT/OG flexibility is not overly helpful on game day. OG/OC flexibility is much more valuable. They're always going to bring at least 7 OL to the game with 1 OT backup and 1 interior backup.

Broaddus is pimping Zack Martin, but he also loved Floyd last year. I encourage people to watch the game footage of these players themselves and not just go by what Broaddus is telling you. He loved Floyd last year. Broaddus seems like a nice guy, but he would like to be a scout again but can't get a job doing it. Maybe there is a reason for that.

I agree. I like Moses and Antonio Richardson better as a RT than Martin. Then I like Sua Filo better as a OG. I would even rather have Thomas or Billy Turner in the 2nd/3rd than Martin in the 1st.

Yes, Thomas, Turner and Dozier all have upside at Guard. Tuerner could probably play OT also. The other 2 could probably play RT if necessary.

I'm not sold on A. Richardson but I need to watch some more game footage. He is strong, but in the games that I watched he struggled with speed rushers.

very very deep draft. hoping for a trade down where we can get some positions covered. Let the rooks fight to start and if they lose they provide excellent depth.

Cutting him didn't Costa thing. Yaaaaaaaaay. :D
Since you watched a lot of ND last year... do you really feel like Martin is worth the 16th pick?

They didn't have a great offense, but that was mostly because Tommy Reese was the QB. Their RB's were decent, but not spectacular. Yet, it seemed like they were highlighting Martin during the games quite a bit, because he was always taking care of his guy. Gotta remember, though, that Mayock does all the ND home games on NBC, and he loves the guy. As for me, I'm really no expert when it comes to ranking players, so if the different services have him ranked that high, then I'm not sure if I'm one to dispute them. Does seem a bit high to me, but he is very good, very smart, and has a lot of flexibility along the line. Personally, I think he's every bit the player Frederick was at Wisconsin, albeit at a different position on the line.

Why do we need Martin? We need Dline badly. Plus drafting an online with a coach that likes to pass is a recipe for having a disaster of a draft. Dline of bust for Dallas and they should be thinking of Donald.

What if Donald is not there? Had you rather take a second round talent or a player that doesn't fit this scheme than a first round talent at another position? Drafting for need is a good way to get a bust.

As a vols fan I agree his weakness is vs the speed but in the nfl he is a true RT. His kick slide and game is better suited for the right side.

If Donald is not there I'd go after Tim Jernigan from Florida. He fits with our system here as well and is just as disruptive.
