Coughlin meeting with Eagles today

Eh, I'm not worried. His teams have losing seasons more often than winning seasons (anymore). 6 winning seasons (4 of 10 or more) in his last 15 years. Seven losing seasons in that time frame. I think he's pretty much a Garrett quality coach whose teams twice happened to get hot at the right time.

So Coughlin had the most successful expansion team in NFL history in J'Ville, taking them to 2 AFC Championship games(one in second year), 4 straight years of playoffs and close to 10 wins a season avg his first 5 years...49 wins...an expansion team. Then he wins two titles with Giants and he is just a Garrett type coach who gets hot..basically lucky? OK. Time may not be on his side now but let's not act like he was just average.

Big deal. Garrett might win when it doesn't count, but Coughlin has actually accomplished something in this league. I know who it was who won when the division was on the line. I know the guy who won when the teams met in the playoffs. And I know who won playoff games and championships.

And I know who didn't.

The Giants have been down, I won't deny that. And I attribute most of those struggles to lack of personnel over lack of coaching. But at least they've had a period where they were at the top of the mountain too. I'll take that over Coach .500 any day.

And Coughlin won his titles in his 12th and 16th years as a head coach. Garrett has coached for 5.

Did you forget Coughlin coached some good teams in Jacksonville first? He went to two AFC Championship games with Jacksonville and had 4 years of consecutive playoff appearances. Made the playoffs in Jacksonville's 2nd year of existence.

Ask the Giants fans about Coughlin.

They wanted him out, said the game has passed him by, cost the team games, etc...

Heard the same thing about Landry. I wasn't one of those that was bashing him at the end. As for Coughlin, sometimes a coach just needs to start over someplace else. Eagle fans wanted Andy Reid out too and look at him. You never know. I'd rather take a chance on a once great coach than a never been.

1996 and 1999 have very little to do with 2016, but keep on looking backwards...

He won 9 games in his second year in Jacksonville and that's with an expansion team. He was the greatest coach the Jaguars ever had.

So you wouldn't complain after 3 straight losing seasons?

If you say so, I'd wager you're not bring entirely honest with yourself.

After actually winning it all? Actually accomplishing something buys you a lot of credit in the NFL. Certainly much more than never having accomplished anything at all.

And how'd he do before that? Did he take a bare bones expansion team to two Championship Games? Or have multiple double digit winning seasons?

Coughlin has a clear, solid track record of success. Garrett does not.

Sure they do.

But you keep trying in vain to diminish what someone else has actually accomplished while propping up someone who never has.

:lmao:

Now that Coughlin is being considered for a coaching position in Philly, wouldn't it be hilarious if Chip Kelly were to do the same in NY? -- lol
