Thats as close as you're going to get. The best feat was the 32 INT in 80 games. He only made a single pro-bowl during his career.

If that's not what you're arguing, your post was a jumbled mess. Mind explaining your point a little clearer?

I said that most great players can't coach. Then I went on to name a few and explain my thoughts. Better?

I don't want Singletary.

Those who can, do.
Those who can't, coach (actually teach)
Those that could and now coach, fail.

There are very few special players that end up as great coaches. Can anyone name one? Don't say Dungy, Ditka, etc. While these coaches played for Superbowl teams, they weren't a top the list of the players on the team. Though some say Ditka was a top 100 player, the only reason I think he won the superbowl in the first place is because of surprise in Buddy Ryan's 46 defense had on the league. Once that defense was figured out, his Bears vanished.

There is some merit to that arguement.

Great coaches have typically been the overachievers, the ones that didn't have the God-given talent and needed to be students of the game to have success as players.

But the failures at coach from great players, seemed to come from those that not only had great talent, but worked harder than most too...Magic Johnson comes to mind, he failed because he couldn't relate to players who would rather make rap records or do movies in the offseason than work on their game like he, Larry and MJ did.

You Do realize that Ditka was in the HOF as a player, right? He was a GREAT TE. And he won a SB as a coach. There is no other case I know of where a HOF PLAYER then won the SB as a coach.
I was about to type the same thing.

Does it make you feel good to make a meaningless point? If so, have one of these...

Is it they Can't coach...or just have no desire to coach?

I happen to think that many backup players or border line players start getting coaching in their heads while they are playing because they know they are not good enough to have long careers as starters in the NFL.

I think they decide to start learning about coaching and taking interest in it so they can have better chances down the road.

I believe that if they were GREAT players in the NFL and never had to worry about money or their future they would not be thinking about such things for the most part...but since they are not great players or get those huge contracts to start turning towards coaching as a way to further their career.

So it goes back to....is it that they, the great players, Can't coach...or is it that they have no desire to coach.

I'm just saying, if it's the right candidate, it shouldn't matter what the norm is, because you could find cons in anything and examples of a situation not working out

Ditka was the first of his kind back in the day. (Receiving TE) Today, he wouldn't be a tight end he would be a receiver. (6'3 220lbs) He was basically a receiver that could block.

What does that have to do with anything?

LBs are bigger now.

DTs and DEs are bigger now.

Some DTs back then would be too small to play today.

Some linemen back then would be too small or would have to be Blocking TEs now.

Really has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

That's exactly what I thought you said. In my reply, replace "HOF player" with "great players."

That's basically your argument and I think it's silly.

That said, I don't want Singletary as a DC. He might make a fine HC, but that position can be simply ministerial (no pun intended).

  • Michael Jordan
  • Magic Johnson
  • Larry Bird
  • Mean Joe Greene (still coaching in Miami I beleive
  • Wayne Gretzky

There are many many more that try and fail overall.

HOF players and great players are two different things. There are many great players that arn't HOF player that deserve to be. Yet as I said. They are not.

this is hilarious. reading this site lately

Rivera isnt worth it due to last night. Singletary isnt worth it. Bill Cowher is overrated. Wade Phillips and Norv suck. Garrett is too young. Jim Caldwell would be a waste...and on and on and on

is there anyone that people on this site want to hire?

I am talking about Football...not the other sports.

It seems Football is very different when going from player to coach than the other sports.
