Agreed.

No names make me "drool" when thinking about them.

We either go with someone that is a retread...or we go with the young unproven guys who may not be ready.

It reminds of the ad from a comedy some time back where people from an insane asylum became key contributors to highly successful ads. The particular ad about a car was...

"It Doesn't Suck"

Could that describe the best candidate for the Dallas Cowboys HC position?

One thing is certain...here on CowboysZone no agreement can be reached concerning the candidates. Normally sensible posters begin foaming at the mouth on the whole subject. If Dungy became available or Landry rose from the grave, I'll guarantee you rocks would be immediately thrown at the both of them. Quite remarkable actually.

So...we can say Ditka is one against your theory...and Mean Joe is one for your theory.

Seems pretty much a stalemate if that is your case.

I think my theory holds more water than yours if that is your argument.:)

I beleive (my opinion) that Ditka wasn't that great a coach. I think he had a great staff at the time. Buddy Ryan (hell the whole Ryan family) are extremely good defensive guys. They produced they best defenses of all time. (Rex Ryan and the 2000 Ravens , Buddy Ryan and the 1985 Bears)

With a defense that good you didn't need a great offense. I mean Jim McMahon and Trent Dilfer were the QBs of those teams!!! The defense alone was so good it could beat most teams in the NFL during those years. Ditka was a product of that defense. What did he do in New Orleans? Nothing but get thrown out on his butt because of his temper.

Pssssst.....no. ;) Leave him out of this.

Nah, thats who I want as a DC. Norv as the OC and Parcells as the HC. (just for the fact that he is one of the best talent evaluators in the league)

me too. it would be a very bold move.

That would be as bold as Chan Gailey. "Bold" the lemmings said when Gailey was hired.
:laugh2:

If you want bold, hire someone who makes sense. With a consistently winning record and a rep as building teams. Singletary's greatness, IMHO, is indicative of his greatness as a defensive monster with the Bears. Not his coaching acumen.
From what I have heard, the 49ers would not lose sleep if Singletary is lost.
Think about that for a while. Or as long as you can.

I'm just saying, unless Marvin Lewis has put on weight and changed his race, Rex Ryan wasn't the mastermind credited with that 2000 Ravens D. ;)

this is hilarious. reading this site lately

Rivera isnt worth it due to last night. Singletary isnt worth it. Bill Cowher is overrated. Wade Phillips and Norv suck. Garrett is too young. Jim Caldwell would be a waste...and on and on and on

is there anyone that people on this site want to hire?
Dizz, probably not even three-fourths will agree on any one guy. You know this. I agree it's ludicrous the logic that gets thrown out there, each tailored to a specific pro or con. We're gonna get whatever we're gonna get. We may think we're entitled to the best, but the last 10 years or so seem to stand in contrast to the concept. Which is pretty much the way life goes.

That's exactly what I was saying. Why else would I have isolated that blurb, talking about the best defenses ever, and said to leave Rivera out of it?

well is seems from some reports people in the NFL think more highly of him than you do. I've seen more than a few football guys say he is going to be a HC in this league. The best hire isnt always going to be someone who has already been a NFL head coach. I would think that has been more than proven the past few years.

You know nothing of the guys coaching ablity more than anyone else punching on their keyboards around here anyway

wasn't Marvin Lewis the brains behind that '00 Raven's defense?

Marvin Lewis was the DC from 1996 to 2000. The Ravens defense sky rocketed from 14th in 1998 to #2 in 1999 and #1 in 2000. What year did they hire Rex Ryan? Thats right! 1999!
