I said remember 2002, you said this year's draft has no issues, I gave them to you. The knock on Spears is his speed. Yep, every small school player changing positions is a can't miss. Parcells said he likes Barber as a 3rd down back. The rest is exaggeration to make a point, too bad it flew right on by.

Even without major issues, no drafted player is a given. Let them play a down before we start carving the busts for Canton.

Once against, i'm not saying anyobdy here is HOF....yet, but like i said in the 2002 they were MAJOR issues with the palyers we drafted, and it wasnt us moving them out of postion, it wasnt them being 30 pounds over wieght, it wasnt them not being " quick" enough of the ball, it was called CAHRACTER issues,Mental issues,

these players we have now can learn and become good quailty players, we were HOPING that they palyers we drafted in 2002 woud FORGET there old ways in CHARACTER and rise to their talent level. The guys we have we're HOPING can just live up to there talent, (which is what you HOPE for out of every draft pick) the only connection i see is hoping thse guys live up to their potential, which can besiad about any draft, so i see your point once again, useless, because the players parcells has draft has so far(Jones, Witten Newman his first year, Jhonson,)

Very few of BP's draft picks have gone astray, the enitre 2002 draft is almost gone, hmm i wonder???????

Witten has been a Pro Bowler, he has never been All Pro. Different things.

However, I am not laying any blame at Parcells except perhaps last year. It was a mess through and through.

His first year was just flat out terrific coaching. Getting 10 wins when handicapped with QC at QB and Hambrick at RB is pretty amazing. That was a 6 win squad in terms of talent.

This year's offseason looks to be a success IMO. One of the best in recent memory.

I don't mind going 3-4 if it looks good in TC. I think, if it doesn't, BP won't be stubborn enough to stick with it although I am sure it is his defense of choice.

I like Henson, but he isn't ready yet. What other vet QB option was out there? The team had to have one and BP knows Bledsoe. No issue there.

Cutting Coakley? We all knew that was coming.

Other than the dubious offseason moves of last offseason, I have no issue with what BP has done in Dallas. The team is lucky to have him.

I schooled you on that before, so sticking your head in the sand won't make it any less true now.

Small school DE to OLB, nope no issues there at all.

Not quick enough to be a playmaker, nope no possible issue there.

Undersized for strongside 3-4 LB, nope no issue there.

Jones and Thomas, looking like a 3rd down back, nope he's can't miss.

Injuries.

Small school SS, nope no issues at all on 6th round picks becoming starters.

Weight, again not a problem.

DE or DT, hell all 7th round picks become pro bowlers.

Sounds like someone is upset about Fixodent being taken off the market and the reformulation of geritol.

You can nitpik all day long.

The only pass rushing prospect to come out of college with better measurables than Ware over the past 5 years has been Freeney. The dude is a freak of nature.

Spears was dominant on a national championship team.

Burnett a team leader that is athletic enough to play the run or pass.

Second day choices always have question marks but all have tremendous upside.

Parcells plan is obvious. Reestablish the offensive, defensive lines. Establish a running offense that takes the pressuure off the QB. Draft team leaders. Establish discipline and accountability in the lockerroom and get rid of those that are not up to these standards.

Newman ws the best player on the board but other than that what do we have?

Johnson, Witten, Jones, Rogers, Peterman, Ware, Spears, and Burnett are in; Bryant and Hunter out.

Coakley was out as well but that was due to a 4+ mil salary and a roster bonus. You fail to mention that they wanted to bring him back and they cut him right off giving him a chance to find a team before free agency. They ver easily could have held on to him til the bitter end to deflate his marke value.

Coakley was handled with class and ended up with more moeney than he got here.

Glover's 'grumbling' has been what exactly? That he has had success in the 3-4 before? The fact that he has competition at DT is a good thing especially on first and all other running downs.

BZ your just upset that your 40 year comfort zone of the 4-3 defense is over and you dont know what to do. I have a suggestion go and harrass the neighbors kids.

Newman has NOTHING to do with the base defense. That 4-3/pro bowl thing was a shot at you know who.

I INCLUDED him as a solid player.

You are arguing with me over nothing, so just how are you keeping up?:D

He should have installed the 3-4 from Day 1, just like every other new head coach installs his system when they take over. Comprimising himself by going along with the 4-3 for two years and trying to appease Jerry by not rocking the the boat is probably a mistake he'd readily admit to. Ellis wouldn't be pulling this primadonna stuff in Parcells first offseason when the mystique was still there, and Parcells carte blache to do whatever he wanted after a decade of Switzer/Gailey/Campo .

He tried to be flexible and comprimised himself in the process. It needed to be corrected .... better late than never.

look at the team we had, we didnt have dpeth nor players to swtich to the 3-4, and after suck a good season in 2003 he thought he would stick it out and see what we would do in 2004, but devasted by injuries and players falling through, we failed, so he started just when he should have, this year

I don't have a problem with the 3-4 if, and it is still a big if, we have the personnel to run it.

My problem is not building for the future or trying to win now, but attempting to do both.

Blow up the defense fine, but blow it up and admit you are rebuilding, don't try to fit square pegs into round holes and call it a reduction to keep them fresh.

Do the same on offense, turn it over to the young guys and go through the growing pains in one year.

We're in the middle of a decade long rebuilding process at Valley Ranch because we've used a dangerous mix of risk aversion, delusion and settling for mediocrity.

The Miami Dolphins have drafted and built a team to run the 4-3 under Jimmy and Wannstedt, and they've did it a hell of a lot better than we have the past 8 years. That doesn't stop Nick Saban from coming in and establishing his defense from Day 1.

ANd once again read the enitre post... WE HAD NO DEPTH, and come back and give me this argument when these guys Defense become succesful cause it wont be this year.

BlindZebra is at wits end, his 4-3, Howard fixation, and Zimmer lovefest is imploding on him. This Ellis outburst is the beginning of the end. Funny part is he truly doesn't even see it - still! The smart 4-3onites are as we shall say MIA of late. Spinning their future retort to this development. Evenin Mikey, Hot in the desert tonight Hos? Mid 80's and humid here tonight.

May I ask, what is your worse case scenerio in 2003 if he had gone to the 3-4? We flush Eb Ekuban and Dexter Coakley off the roster a year or two early? We go 4-12 instead of overachieving to a wildcard spot only to become roadkill in the playoffs for a real contender?

Every coach faces obstacles when rebuilding a team to his image. Romeo Crennel has completely gutted his front 7. Jimmy Johnson gutted the roster in 1989. Parcells should have done the same. He comprimised himself by drinking Jerry's Kool-Aid, and wasted two years in the process.

The real problem is Parcells?

Year one he was in God status, even though he made mistakes at QB and RB. Luck and an overachieving defense made the playoffs.

Year two, changes were made at QB and RB, but mistakes at DE, DT and in the secondary along with injuries on offense killed us. We began hearing rumblings that players were not buying into Parcells system. Bad character guys were being shipped out left and right, and old players with zero upside were playing instead of young guys.

Year three begins with us overspending for pretty good players in free agency and overkilling at positions of need in the draft. Now I'm all for bringing in talent, but the motives behind this overreaction worries me.

We release a high character guy in Coakley, and hear grumblings from two other high character guys in Glover and Ellis. We still have personnel better suited for the 4-3. We are replacing a pro bowl player with 7th rd picks or UDFA, depending on rookies...most of whom came from the 4-3...and alienating two of our best players in the process, and for what?

A very average Bledsoe will need to lead this offense very well for us to have any chance. That and this defense coming together seems very unlikely to me, so then what?

If the embarrassment of a 6-10 season caused this much change in both free agent philosophy and personnel, what would another losing season do? Especially if it occurs in a 3-4 comfort zone for Parcells.

I see 3 seasons of reacting.

I don't see a long term plan for this team after Parcells leaves and that scares me.
Having never been a big Parcells fan to start with and recognizing him for the egomaniacal jerk that he is I would buy your analysis all the way.

The only thing that's wrong with it now is that we've wasted 2 years, and Parcells doesn't have the carte blanche with the fans and media he once did.

Now, can you try to answer my question? What is the worst case scenerio had we moved to the 3-4 in 2003?

Roshi, could you name the hypothetical 3-4 starters in 03?

You are allowed to make any retroactive/retrospective trade you'd like..like Tony Dixon for Jame Farrior, for instance. ;)

Parcells is two years closer to retirement, and one more losing season could be it.

If we don't have a magical Nors' season, this could very well be Parcells last year.

The fan in me hopes we win and there is a plan, beyond a last ditch my way effort to win it this year, the realist in me has a difficult time believing it will happen.

I think this is a make or break year for Parcells...I thought he did an amazing coaching job in 2003, but a very poor job last year...he's also made alot of questionable personnel decisions, though that can be said of alot of people...

if we play well and win 10-11 games I think Parcells returns for at least another yr, but if the team bombs and players that he's cherry picked to come here play poorly (ie, Bledsoe for one) then I think we'll see him retire after the season

I think Parcells is a good coach, but I dont think he is the elite coach some have annointed him to be...he's only had one really great team his entire coaching career (86 Giants), never coached a team to back to back super bowls and hasnt coached a team to the super bowl at all since 1996...not only has he never coached in back to back super bowls, he's never gotten a team to back to back conference championship games...he's a vast improvement over the clowns that coached here from 94-2002, but he isnt Landry or Jimmy
