Could Rob Petitti be the Odd man out??

Just an Opinion, but if Columbo is the right tackle, and Fabini has showed enough progress and recovered enough to play the swing tackle, then that would leave one "potential" spot for a development player. IMHO I think that player could be Pat MCQ because Parcells may want to protect McQ from hitting the open waiver wire much in the same way he protected Thomas "pepper" Johnson last year. Also, Parcells has said that he "knows" what he has in Petitti based on 16 games last year; again that is not a ringing endorsement based on his play in 05. Parcells has also stated that Petitti has yet to take his weight room improvement onto field. Also, I am a little bit leary about the fact that Petitti hasn't had much playing time this preseason a.k.a. Stephen Peterman.

Your thoughts??

I'm starting to think the same thing. Especially after Bill's comments about McQ being the starting left tackle right now.

I doubt it, Parcells said earlier in TC, that Rob was in much better shape, I just think he wants to see as much as he can from Colombo and Fabini. Also, keep in mind that Rob is in year 2 of the Landry 3 year plan.

LOL .. this is no different than:

"Romo's going to be the starter because he played the whole first preseason game."

"Vanderjaqt is going to be cut if he doesn't get on the field soon."

etc.

Petitti will be on the team this year. The first 2-3 preseason games are for evaluating players he doesn't know .. he already knows what Petitti can do.

I think he makes the team. Dallas will keep atleast 9 OL maybe 10.

Flo
Fabini
Petitie
Columbo
McQustion
Rivera
Procter
Kosier
Johnson
AGurode

You're assuming that Petitti isn't in the running for starting right tackle .. The reporter asked him about the LEFT TACKLE position .. the left tackle will be Flozell when the season starts. Who is to say that Petitti won't be the starting right tackle? Or the right tackle backup?

Don't assume Petitti is only going to make the team as a left tackle. Parcells said he wanted to get Petitti used to playing Left Tackle this preseason so he would have more depth on both sides.

Seems to me you would want to evaluate a guy who has only played one year. Especially after all the talk about his new look and strength. And even more so for a 7th rounder who usually has a lot more of a learning curve. I'm a little surprised Petitti isn't getting more minutes.

I'm assuming he's in the running for backup tackle to play both sides. I think Columbo and Fabini are fighting for starting right tackle. I thought Rob had it locked up until McQ started getting so many minutes. I'm thinking Bill is going to keep 4 offensive tackles. We'll see.

Not when you have a lot of new guys on the line you don't. The offensive line is the biggest question the team had going into training camp and Parcells has to figure out which new guys (Fabini, Columbo, McQuistan, etc.) he wants to keep and he needs to find out quickly and what better way to do that then put them in against first and second team defenses?

I don't know what to think about Rob right now. I have thought that he may be the odd man out and I have also thought that he may be the starter at RT and everything going on right now is for backup spots.

We shall see, I am rooting for him because I love his work ethic!

Yeah, but who's new? McQ is the only new one. He saw Fabini play for years, only needs to see if he still has it. Columbo was here last year, I'll give you he has to see a fully healed Columbo. Flozell has been around for a while. Just saying, Petitti's job is not looking 100% safe.

I agree with TrueBLue, its a little suprising that a first year player wouldn't get more minutes in the preseason. Also, why would you expose (Starting McQ instead of petitti in NO) your starting quarterback Bledsoe if you weren't serious about keeping him on the roster?? Even if you wanted to evaluate McQ against 1st string competition, you wouldn't put him in there unless you saw enough to keep him on the roster. I think this one could be interesting to watch.

Two things make me think that Pettiti is safe. First he is the only guy getting work at swing tackle and we know how bill likes to carry a guy who can go on either side. Second, when asked if he would play McQuistan in a regular season game right now Parcells almost laughed at the idea and said very definitely "No". I think we carry them both and Fabini is the odd man out.

It would be a shame to see what I was hoping would be the next Keyshawn Johnson signing (solid cheap vet) go away, but I think you're probably more right than my prediction. Fight to the death with Fabini and Columbo. Lord knows we can use all the youth possible so it would be nice to see McQ and Petitti both stay.

Fabini had a slow start and has not really distinguished himself. Pettiti and Colombo are both a lot younger and have more upside than Fabini. His signing gave me a little comfort zone early on but he has just not come through as I had hoped and expected.

That looks about right if we keep ten, but I don't think we will. If we only keep nine then one of those tackles has to go, and I think it will be Fabini.

Fabini was supposed to be the saftey net for Bill at both tackle spots. But Tuna has effectively worked him out of the loop as the backup LT behind Flozell since he has received absolutely no work there. That diminishes his value to the team bigtime, so I think he's the odd man out.

3 Guards: Rivera, Procter, Kozier (who can play tackle)
2 centers: Johnson and Gurode (who can play RG)
4 Tackles: Adams, Columbo/Fabini/Petitti, and Pat McQ.

I don't think he could keep 10 based upon the kicker status and that none of the tackles can play guard.

Petitti will make this team... and contribute...
