Could he be put on the practice squad and survive.

I know there is a "years in the league" rule to the practice squad. - Is there a games played rule also?

I am positive that if someone has started sixteen games, they are not eligible.

SOme people claim to be so very certain. Gonna be fun when they have to eat their words. ONE thing to remember about those SACK records: they only account for the one you are blocking if HE makes the sack. IF for instance as a center or guard you allow enough penetration so that the QB CANNOT step up into the pocket and a DE that was being forced outside is able to make the tackle then the Tackle doing the blocking is charged with the sack- not the guard or center that actually was more responsible.

i dont think strahan going to pettiti's outside shoulder and running past him is any guards or centers problem..i just think pettiti doesnt have good footwork

I saaw several sacks by DE's last season that were caused more by the QB being unable to step up into the pocket. THAT is not mentioned when sacks are totaled or by the other methods of measurement that have been talked about on this board.

If he blocks his guy, it shouldn't be an issue.

Actually, if you go back and watch a lot of the games and pay attention to #52, you will see why the tackles gave up so many sacks .. Bledsoe had to move to the left and right so much due to pressure up the middle that he walked right into the outside pass rush.

I'm not saying Petitti is going to start this year, I'm simply saying he's not as bad as he was made out to be last year due to #52. I suspect he will either be the starting right tackle or swing tackle backup.

Wow! While you're at it, why don't you lay responsibility on 52 for the following:
  • Depletion of the ozone
  • World hunger
  • Animal abuse
  • Discrimination in the workplace
  • Women's suffrage
  • Constipation
Rob Petitti, and Torrin Tucker for that matter, played last year because they were all that was available; neither were close to being solid football players.

Petitti is up against a player with experience (Fabini) and another player with potential (Columbo) and he is fighting for a roster spot. His biggest challenge is his own lack of consistency with his technique according to Bill.

Personally, I'm pulling for the kid but I think Parcells needs Fabini's experience on the roster and the battle is between Columbo and Petitti. Parcells will keep the guy that he feels has the best long-term upside.

I think that Petitti will be in the final 53. I do not think that Bill cuts a 2nd year player who started the whole previous season. He is a cheap, late-round, experienced pick. Unless McQ, Fabs, and Colombo have all shown a lot more, then no way Petitti gets cut.

I think McQ will eventually cost Pettiti a job here, but I don't know if it will be this year. While Parcells sounded pretty high on him, he was also pretty emphatic that he wouldn't put him into a real game right now. Realistically that is not going to change in the next 2 1/2 weeks.

I think he goes to the PS this year and we keep both Rob and Fabini, with Columbo starting.

He should be safe on the PS -- nobody had a clue who he was when we drafted him, and I don't think what he did in NO is going to make anyone jump to put him on their 53.

I hope we see Fabini or Petitti at LT tomorrow night. If I had to guess, McQ doesn't make the 53. Fabini played VERY WELL along side Rivera against New Orleans. With how bad McQ played at LT on Monday, I cannot see how Fabini or Petitti could be any worse. It's just not physically possible unless they turn around and make the tackle themselves.

My take is that early on in TC Bill saw that Petitti was playing better than Fabini or Columbo. So, he is trying the other two at RT to see which one is better at the position. Meanwhile, why not see what Petitti can do at LT? I think he has seen Petitti is doing pretty well there, too, so now he has McQ working over there to see if he has enough to stay in a backup role, or go to the practice squad.

Then again, it could be another Peterman, where he watched Petitti early on, & realized that all the weights in the world aren't going to give Rob quicker feet or hands. So, he has anyone & everyone working OT to try to get SOMEONE over at RT who is better than Petitti. I am hoping it's the first scenario.

OK, if your theory is right, why wouldn't Bill put Petitti back at RT now this week. After all he wants to have the starters in their spots this week and Jacksonville isn't very far away.
