I'm not interested in whether he's underpaid, what's fair to the player or any other nonsense. You had him under contract for multiple years. He had no option. Doesn't seem sensible whatsoever to do this.

Another reason that you should be a GM in this league. It is a business and should be treated as such. I bet these guys that support this , wouldn't turn down a great deal on a new car. Would they tell the salesman that this is too good of a deal but I will give you an extra $5000 because I don't like saving money?

As an example, Mo has been payed plenty of money to he's failure.

Mo's contract is fully guaranteed so that's not a good argument, he makes all his money whether he's on the team or not. You know how teams work business, when a guy isn't playing up to par the team is always quick to say take a pay cut or we'll cut you. You can't have it both ways if you feel the player should honor his contract then you can't feel a team should ever approach a player with a pay cut or cut them before their contract is up.

Right. You never pay for past performance. That's irrelevant. You pay for projected future performance.

That is another slogan that sounds good but makes little sense. What are you basing "projected future performance" on?

Past performance is the best indicator of future performance and a little bump in pay is a great way to reward hard work and a job well done. Aren't incentives and year end bonuses paying for "past performance", they should get rid of those too.

It is real easy for internet posters to draw all these lines in the sand, but real GMs are dealing with real people with real feelings. If you insult or slight someone, you might lose them forever. Nothing is ever as black and white as we make it out to be.

Teams do honor the deal with the players

If a team cuts a player for underperformance they:

1. Have to pay him his guaranteed money AND

2. Their ability to cut the player after a certain number of years was part of the deal

I don't know how often this BASIC fact about contracts has to be repeated before people actually get it

These are multi millionaires with a powerful union behind them

And players have an ability to withhold their services.

A negotiated fine and forfeited salary is also written into contracts.

This is fun.

Some things are as black and white as we make them out to be. Most aren't. :)

But, yeah. Obviously you make agreements based on your expectation for future performance and past performance, along with age and injury history play a role. So does the relative replaceability of the position in question and the availability and likely cost of similar players. It's supply and demand, like most things.

But that fact remains there are contracts--which both sides are obligated to offer---and there are negotiations outside of the context of existing contracts, which are also perfectly legitimate. The goal is to compensate as effectively as you can in order to make the best use of the cap. If that can happen in an environment where deals are adjusted amicably up and down in a healthy environment, that's ideal. If not, you're left with either sticking to the letter of the original agreements or teams using cap space inefficiently. The former situation is obviously preferable in my mind simply because there are factors that come up in between seasons in most deals with most players that have a legitimate effect on the original expectations of the parties. Providing for that leads to a better, fairer structure overall, which has got to be better in the long run for both the players and the team environment.

I like how you haven't responded to anyone bringing up legitimate unintended consequences to your naive uninformed opinion.

But you like and quote anyone who even remotely aligns with your thinking.

Confirmation bias much?

I have no clue what this dumb analogy means.

So, you go buy a car and sign a contract and pay 14,000 in cash. An NFL team signs a contract for a player for 20 mil.

After several months the dealership says I don't like the way you drive so I want the car back and you are not getting any of your money back. After a year or so an NFL team says I don't like the way you play so you are cut. Who broke the contract?

I know you suck up to Risen all the time, however, I would be willing to bet that neither of you have studied Contract Law and how it is written, much less how contracts are written in the NFL. Aside from guaranteed money, a player can sign a contract for 20 mil with a guarantee of 5 mil, but if we don't like you are getting cut. Now, is the player, under contract for 20 mil due the rest of the 15 mil that he signed for? If not or if so, please explain to me why.

I guess i get why alot of you guys are mad at the situation but look at it from oscans perspective. He's by far our best corner and he makes less than our worst corner plus hes been balling like a boss. Its not wasted money at all for the way hes played. Hes more than earned it.

And, the important thing is, the Cowboys know this otherwise they would have just cut him even though he signed his initial contract.
