Just as an aside, the implementation of the scheme happened when he got more control of the offense. It's clear Callahan's influence on offense is what turned the offense somewhat around. It wasn't just the loss of Murray.
Callahan's influence and the fact Murray played a full 16 games is what helped turn the running game around last season. Regardless the scheme you still need a back who fits the scheme. Murray had success as a rookie behind a transitioning OL in 2011. He had a 4 game stretch where he rushed for just over 600 yards and a season ending injury is what prevented him from having a 1000 yard season. It was missed games due to injury that kept him from having some productive seasons prior to 2014.
He was a great fit on this team and it may not be that easy finding another back that has the chemistry/cohesiveness with the OL he had. Jerry has miscalculated many times at RB which is why there was a drought between Emmitt and Murray. He said during an interview prior to last years draft that if we can keep strengthening the OL it lessons the need for a premier runner. Would like to revisit that discussion and see how he feels about that now.
