don't get too excited.

I know where you're going with this.. I will go on record as saying a Dan Reeves in a hybrid consultant/GM role is a very good thing even if it means moving beyond the TO era.

There. You're not slick.

isn't it pathetic we have to pull a former coach out of retirement to be a disiplinary consultant? the HC is supposed to handle that.

Fans- Jerry wont hire a real football coach and get out of the way

Jerry- hires real coach in Parcells, turns everything over to him

Fans- Still Complain

Fans- Jerry bungles the draft every yr

Jerry- gives Parcells total control, revamps entire scouting dept that results in quality drafts since day one

Fans- Still Complain

Fans- Jerry holds onto old players too long

Jerry- Trades away or releases dead weight players

Fans- Still Complain

Fans after 2008 season- Jerry needs to hire a real football man

Jerry- talks to Dan Reeves, a real football man about joining our franchise

Fans- STILL COMPLAIN

Dan Reeves' title: Discipline consultant?

That's what John Clayton suggested during an appearance on Michael Irvin's ESPN 103.3 show.

Any indication that the Cowboys are serious about instilling discipline and accountability is a good thing. Dan Reeves' track record suggests that he might be up to the challenging task. The big if, of course, is whether Jerry Jones would stay out of the way enough to let Reeves make a difference.

Maybe this is Jerry's way of slowly letting go of the GM role, you know, baby steps. So Reeve's might be the "Consultant/GM" so to speak. It's not so horrible, at least Jerry is coming to the conclusion we need some kind of help. And another thought, perhaps he's going to use Reeve's to fire some players/personnel that he doesn't have the stones to.

Parcells was really his first drive down that road, since Jimmy. Parcells was the HC, but he was also the GM.

And BP made the same mistake as GM that Jerry does; not hiring a coach that can get it done on the field.

A consultant has little accountability or authority.
Nobody reports to him. Nobody answers to him. He isn't accountable.
I am not opposed to it-but it is hardly going to make a substantial impact.

Garrett had Sparano as a consultant, along with having him coaching the line, and that seemed to work really well, so I'd say it could have a significant impact on our offense.

Hell, we don't even know if he's actually in contact with the team. This is the same people that had Shanahan to KC and Garrett to STL as pretty much done deals.

yeah Mort reported he did, so that probably means he saw Reeves in the Americus Country Store with a Cowboys baseball cap on, and he put 2+2 together.

I mean, he scooped everybody with that Shanahan to KC thing

ESPNs ratings must be hurting! Competing with Greta, so they use the old "Consultant" ploy to get ratings up!
