I think, and this is my opinion only, is that the reason why the Cowboys let him keep the money was under the condition that he retires and not play for another team. If Kyle Orton wants to play football again, he'll have to get the Cowboys' permission and whomever wants him, will have to acquire his rights from the Cowboys. So I don't think this is another Ratliff's situation in that sense.
If they cut him, they don't have that right, no matter what was said and agreed to behind closed doors. If it isn't official, it doesn't mean squat and he can take advantage of the cowboys and pull another "ratliff". I hate this move if it's real. What I'm hoping is that it was mis-reported and is actually a move to reserve/retired. We can't keep letting players think that if they become disgruntled they can just do this to the team.
