But somehow his reply has 10 likes as of the last time I checked, and yours has none.

If only 7 OL are active, which is historically what they've done, then Bernadeau is both the backup C and OG for that game. Then you would have a swing to back up the OT's. If Collins isn't the swing tackle, he's not on the active roster unless they go with 8 OL.

Like I said, who's your backup guard if Bernadeau has to go in at center if Frederick happens to get hurt? Say Fred gets hurt and then a guard gets nicked up or hurt. If you only have 7 OL, than Weems has to come in as guard or Free slides to guard and Weems to tackle. Ain't no one else if you only dress 7 OL.

They ain't dressing only 7 OL on game day. Way too risky.

Am I the only one confused about us letting go of Brinkley?? I thought he was at least a serviceable player. He started for Minnesota and got a decent amount of tackles, and I saw him make some decent plays in preseason for us. I would think at the very least we would keep him around until Ro comes back. Am I just completely out of the loop on this guy or what?

Brinkley was demoted to 4th string behind Ro, Hitchens and Gachkar. And Smith proved more valuable not just at LB, but on ST as well.
Finally showed some heart and effort against Texans but too little too late.

Perhaps you missed the part about that being what we've often done recently.

At the end of last season, including in both playoffs games, the only backup offensive linemen who were active were Bernadeau and Hills.

They do it all the time. That 8th OL doesn't help on special teams like another LB or DB.

Jordan Mills had a decent rookie year, had a foot injury last year and really fell apart. They felt it was the injury and he would be better this year if healthy but has not been. Have read several blog type posts on him and reviewed fan messages on several boards and they all say the same thing. Decent run blocker, awful pass protector. Definitely doesn't fit the mold of a true swing tackle...as someone else posted, he probably only sees the field as a right tackle.

Well, it could be technique or just working his way back from the foot injury. I am NOT making excuses for this guy, but when you are a very big man one of the hardest. longest and most frustrating injuries to come back from is a foot injury. NBA guys fear them as much as knee injuries. NFL is no different...GOT to have a solid base when blocking as an Olineman. That starts with your feet. They can bring him along relatively slowly. If he is in the game, they can always chip with an Hback or Tight End when passing. I like the pickup...especially with Brinkley getting cut: he didn't deserve a spot on this roster IMO

Love how people act like it's $2 million of their money they blew. $2 million to Jerrah is the equivalent of your #3 from McDonald's with a Sprite.

THANK you.....some of the gnashing of teeth over Brinkley's money is laughable..WHO CARES?

Mills at least has starting experience. Can't play LT, but gives the Cowboys a credible player at RT if there was an injury. My guess is that if Tyron Smith were to go down, Doug Free would move to LT, and Mills would move in at RT.

I bet they move Martin to LT...and insert Collins @ RG........

But I did hear that Bernardo would be the 1st guy coming off the bench.....So who knows. But IMO moving Martin would be more logical if Smith went down.

clearly the boys think his problem was the injury and he has everything else needed. Hopefully they are right but its telling that they made this move- clearly they are very worried about OT depth. Seems clear that they think that Collins needs to stay at guard and learn it. with Green a unknown that leaves them with Weems who has not impressed much of anyone. Mills is a vet who has shown that he can play RT pretty well.

I absolutely love this signing. A tackle that is young and has starting experience and had a relatively decent rookie season? Perfect. I'm guessing he gave up 6 sacks last year? Sounds like he regressed, but that Bears team was collapsing last year so it will be nice to see if he picks up where he left off his rookie season and improves with us.

Either way, this guy is only 24 years old. Right now, he's solid depth, but I would not be surprised if we work with him and he eventually takes the RT spot.

Weems may be gone when Hardy and McClain come back

They clearly aren't comfortable with him at backup OT on gameday. With that being the case, what good is he on the 53 assuming Mills takes that role?

Still young. I wish we had Callahan one more season to get this guy straightened out. Could be a potential starting RT candidate for next season. Either way, it lessens the need to reach for an OT early in next years draft.

Until the Cowboys personnel people start to consistently screw up I'll back their decisions over a bunch of arm chair GM fans who think somehow they know more.

I'm fine with leaving Collins inside. If all goes well, he's potentially dominant there by the time he starts next season. It's clear Weems has one foot out the door with the other dangling.

Mills now gives the team 2 young starting RT candidates for the 2016 season including Chaz Green. Unless both of them completely disappoint, it really eliminates the need to draft one early unless something glorious drops to you.

Because it's cap space maybe? There's a fixed amount of it you know. And when $2 million is wasted, there's less to pay guys you want to keep, like maybe a league-leading rusher...
